Checking In.

kids walkingJust a quick note to check in. I’ve had lots of piddly little things to do this week, but I don’t seem to have accomplished much. I’m even afraid to look at my bloglines — I haven’t had time to check it since Tuesday. I hate it when I get behind on reading all of your blogs. I did get the formatting for my blurb book done and got the order shipped off last night. Yay! And I found out that MyDadLovesMeBestSister is making a book for her hubby too. She’s using Shutterfly or Snapfish so it will be a fun experiment to compare her service with blurb.com’s service.

I’m finally going to get some time at home tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll get some sewing done. I really need to do a little Christmas decorating. What you see to the right is the sum total of my decorating so far. Pretty pitiful, huh? I couldn’t help myself though. I was shopping in Williams Sonoma last week and decided I should treat myself to festive dish and hand soaps. I thought maybe the peppermint smell would take the drudgery out of doing the dishes for the next month.

Am I the only selfish little shopper out there? Have you had a little extravagant purchase while you’ve been Christmas shopping?

XOXO,
Anna

  1. I have exactly one basket of cinnamon pine cone thingies out! No tree, no stockings, nothing else. If I wait long enough, can I just claim I’ve already put it all away?

  2. I did a little more than an extravagant “little” purchase. Somehow I convinced my lovely husband that I had to have a pair of the new knitted UGGS. I don’t know why, but he said okay and they should be here soon. And you’ve got me beat in the decorating department. Nothing is up yet here… Oh well.

  3. I bought that hand soap and the lotion in the cute little holder too the other day when I was shopping. I loved it. Oh I think I’ll have to go back and get the dish soap. I want those Santa plates they had too. Merry Christmas to ME!

  4. Hmm well I’ve been doing a little shopping here and there, so easy with the push of a key on the keyboard, but ssssh dh doesn’t know….lol…..

  5. Those are pretty – I may have to go check them out. I haven’t done much decorating either, although we did put some lights outside and I put a few things out.

I went to run an errand the other day and found some little pouches in the Christmas gifts section that I had to have for myself and my husband decided it was time that he bought himself a new suit and shirt and tie. But we have almost no Christmas gifts done. Pathetic!

  6. I’m a firm believer in the “one for you one for me” shopping mentality.

Which means I’ve purchased a hundred and a half gifts for “you” because I definitely have that many new things for “me”. Including two pairs of 7’s that are scandalously tight and fancy, a new pair of boots, a handful of sweaters, new furniture for two rooms and a rug.

Wowza. I should not drink while I computer.

  7. I want some peppremint dish soap! Fortunately, I will be heading to the bookstore in a couple of days for some present buying, and there’s a Williams and Sonoma near it.
I haven’t been too extravagant, but I did buy myself a couple of vintage postcards and a lovely little handcrafted paper cone for my Christmas tree while I was out shopping yesterday.

  8. Peppermint hand soap must smell divine! And the red packaging is so christmassy. Also, I haven’t done any extravagant/indulgent shopping yet, since we had just finished getting the rest of the presents that I couldn’t make, ie books. But after christmas, just you wait ‘cos the big sales will be on everywhere.

  9. I bought some lovely stuff from Etsy-shops to give to others, or just because I loved it. I took the handmade pledge and I don”t have time to make the gifts myself. I will have to start in January for Christmas 2008 I guess!!

  10. In answer to Jade who commented: No, certainly, fabric does not count! We have to keep up with the market and keep those quilt shops open. It’s the least we could do. For some reason, I always find things for myself before I find my presents for others. I always “sweat” over the just right, perfect gift for others. Me, I always know what I want. Also, when I get stressed from all the holiday hussle and bussle and I need to just get away, I go “window shopping” at the local antique shops and voila, there I am in trouble again! I went shopping with hubby (dear sweet man) to pick up a little clock for my newly decorated living room. We came home with a grandfather clock (really dear sweet man!). The peppermint soap sounds just wonderful. My scent of choice throughout the year to feel relaxed is lavender. I’ll certainly try the peppermint if I can find it. Happy holidays and I will do my best to stay focused……

  11. ooooh – peppermint!

Honestly, I don’t think your return to BlogLines will be too terrible. It seems like teh internets slowed down this week. Maybe it’s the NaBloPoMo hangover…

All I know is that when I finally got caught up (on Tuesday – it only took me something crazy like 10 days!) I’ve managed to stay caught up this whole week. I better be quiet though, don’t want to jinx myself!

  12. Oh, I do love you! I’ve just been catching up on blogs, and everyone is saying, well, got the tree up, the presents bought, the garlands strung about the house and just one more present to wrap and I’m finished.

Aarrgghh. Don’t these people have to work? And cook? And clean? And spend time with their mothers?????

  13. Yummy peppermint would be lovely in soap except that my hubby and daughter both hate it! More for me I say. I have splurged on an ebay win for myself that I just couldn’t resist but you’ll have to wait until I do a post on it to find out what it is! A clue you say – well it’s oldish and to do with sewing! I am very, very happy!

  14. I have to admit that without taking “the pledge” I am trying to boycot the shops! So far I have managed to sory out 90% of my gifts by making something or buying on etsy. The further 10% I am sending my hubby to do =) I decided I was not entering a shopping centre in December!! I am LOVING it! But I have spoiled myself on Etsy!!!!! Can’t help myself!

  15. I have to admit after reading about your self gift I went to the Williams Sonoma Website and ordered 3 pepermint cleaning kits. Two are gifts and one is for me. I love the fresh smell of peppermint and cleaning with it might actually make me want to do dishes! I think it is a great gift idea. Thank you.

  16. If I had a Williams Sonoma anywhere near me, which of course I do not because I have LAME SHOPPING ONLY, I would have been totally unable to resist that set!

And hey, if all it takes is a little peppermint dish soap to help get you through the crazy holiday season, that’s not so bad!! ; )

  17. I am behind in blog reading, too, but that seems to be my usual these days. I am too busy ‘slaving’ away in the sewing ‘workshop’ these days! Where are those @#$%! elves, is what I want to know??
That soap looks yummy, and I almost bought some when I was ordering treasures for others online. Do you like it?
Oh, yes, I do treat myself while buying gifties for others – ho ho ho!!! Gotta keep Santa happy right? Right!!
