Boxer Day

Whew! I’m pooped! I’ve been cleaning and putting away all the Christmas stuff for three days — why does it take me so long??? I used to be able to clean a whole house in a day — must be my advancing age LOL! Just a few more hours tomorrow to clean our bedroom and bathroom and I’ll be DONE! Sadly, it will just get dirty again. I really do love being at home and having the time to clean, but it’s really frustrating to know that it won’t stay clean for long.

Anyway, since I think you wouldn’t enjoy a picture of me on my hands and knees mopping the floors, I’ll show you one of my Christmas projects. For about 10 years, I’ve been making boxers for the boys. I love making them ’cause it’s a great way to use some fun fabrics. And there’s not much else (besides quilts) that you can make for boys. It’s hard to take pictures of boxers, but here’s this year’s selection:

Boxers

The pin-up girls are fabrics that I bought in Hawaii last March. I love making boxers out of pin-up girl prints — I’ve used pin-ups with hearts for Valentine’s Day and with pumpkins for Halloween. When the boys were younger, I used to use a pajama pattern cut short, but then one day, I found this pattern and I love it. It’s a little fussy, because it has flat-felled seams. I’ve been tempted to just serge the seams, but I love the way the flat-felled seams look — all neat and tidy.

The boys each got two pair of boxers this year, and if you’re counting, you’ll notice there’s a fifth pair there. Not only that, if you have an eagle eye, you might be wondering what’s going on with that pink pair on the left side. Since TheFirstChild was about 10 yrs. old, MeMum has had a running joke with him and she calls him “My Little Princess.” She usually gives him some sort of little girly birthday card on his birthdays. When we were fabric shopping in the fall and we saw this fabric, SweetiePie and MeMum thought it would be perfect for boxers for the “Little Princess”, so I made them for her to give to him.

Boxers

SweetiePie and I have a bet — she says he’ll actuall wear them, I say he won’t. We haven’t come right out and asked him yet, but they haven’t turned up in the laundry yet either. ;-)

Thanks for all the great bunny comments — you guys are the best! If you’re just catching up, don’t forget to sign up for my blogaversary draw if you’d like a chance at a bunny — there’s one more day.

Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. I thought the 5th pair was for your NEW nephew Boo!! Cause you know how lonely he is there in Indiana all by himself. I’m just sayin!!

  2. I was taking my tree down today (finally!) and it was so depressing. add to that the fact that when my son got home from school he cried because he didn’t get to help take it down, or put it up for that matter. left me wondering why I go through all the trouble.

  3. Anna, the boxers are so cool! I have had a couple of different patterns and have always wanted to make some. Your’s look professional, and love the pin up girls. Bunny Day and Boxer’s anyone? TEEHEE

  4. WOW! Those are amazing…better than any you’d find in a store. If my Josh ever sees those he’ll be begging me to learn how to make them.

  5. Making boxers is a great idea! I made a few for my husband last year to match the kimono robe I made him from the Amy Butler In Stitches book and he says it’s all very comfortable.

The “princess” boxers make me laugh.

  6. Here I was all excited when I saw that fabric because my husband wants a “Hawaiian shirt” quilt for Valentine’s Day. But argggggggggggh! you bought them in Hawaii. LOL

Guess I had better get on the hunting eh? Can’t rely on blogland to do “all” of my work, now can I? :-)

  7. Oh my head, I TOTALLY HAVE THAT PATTERN IN MY STASH! But I have never used it yet because it is so complex. Maybe on your next boxer making adventure I can come up and you could teach me. That would be a fun gift!

  8. Hey Anna – what a great way to use some of that fun fabric we all see at the quilts stores and can’t figure out what to do with it. Those pin-up girls are a hoot and I can’t even imagine what my boys would say if I gave them pink boxers, LOL. OK what’s a felled seam? Is that like a french seam?

    Hugs – Karen

  9. Our tree and decorations came down today, proper clean up starts on Tuesday when the girls are back at school. House seems very bare! Love the boxers, you must let us know if the pink ones are worn

  10. I have to take down the decorations tomorrow – not my favourite job. But we will have a Galette des Rois for Epiphany and pretend it is a party day – and cheer ourselves up with a big bunch of flowers to brighten the living room!

  11. oh I love those boxers – they look great. My mum used to make them for the boys, but now only one of them wears them – so I think I had better make a few more as he has been wearing the same lot since he was 5 (he is now 11). Not that boys bots grow big in that time – they usually just grow up (mine do anyway).

You have inspired me now – do you think pin up girls would be okay for an 11 year old?

I agree with you about the cleaning – what is the point, it’s dirty again half an hour later!!

  12. The boxers are great, even the “princess” ones!! LOL!! I should make boxers for my son – he’d love the pin-up girls fabric!
As for cleaning the house, I think it’s wonderful that you’ve worked so hard to make it spotless, but it definitely is not going to stay that way, doggone it!!

  13. The boxers are a super idea for boys, Anna. Your story about the pink one made me laugh, LOL! You better tell your son to have a little girl, so that he can pass the “little princess” crown to someone else. LOL!

  14. Another fun tradition! I would guess that my son wouldn’t wear the pink ones, but he’d get a kick out of the other fun fabrics that you’ve used. Hawaii is a favorite place of ours, especially Kaui. There is a great little quilt shop there.
