My Weekend Entertainment

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was fairly quiet. On Friday night we saw The Bucket List — I loved it — highly recommended! Then, my youngest niece had her 11th birthday last week, so on Saturday morning, I finished up her birthday present and took it to her house. I took a few pictures while I was there.

First we have TheYappers. You may remember that I mentioned them — TheEmptyNestChild could squish them. They’re sisters, about 5 years old, and loved and pampered by the whole family. Here they are wondering what in the heck is going on — things were a little wild at their house.

The Yappers

My niece decided she wanted a 70’s themed birthday party and she had two of her friends over. The girls cracked me up. I dragged them outside and took pictures of them. The two on the left kept saying “Ooohhhhmmm” as if they were meditating, and the one on the right kept striking a disco pose, ala John Travolta.

Girls Backpacks

My sister did a great job on the party. She had a disco ball, a vw bug pinata and lots of other fun decorations in their basement. When I got there, the girls were playing twister. If you have kids this age, this is a great idea for a theme — I was laughing the whole time I was there.

Here are some pictures of the gifts I made for my niece.

Cupcake Apron Dog Lips

I made her a little apron to go with the cake decorating kit that she is holding. The apron is from this pattern by Cindy Taylor Oates. Another great pattern — Cindy is going to think I’m stalking her. It took less than three hours to make this apron, start to finish. I love Cindy’s patterns! I also had a good time using some of the tools that I rarely use on the ruffles — the narrow hem stitch from my serger and my ruffler foot on my machine.

Apron Ruffles

As for the shirt, I couldn’t resist embellishing a little sweat jacket with that saying. It makes me smile and it made MyDadLovesMeBestSister and my niece laugh! Now, if you have germ issues, you must avert your eyes. Here’s proof that I speak the truth. Yapper1 and my little niece in action:

Dog Kiss

Eeeewwww!!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’ll try to clean things up around here next time!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. The yappers are adorable. My Gran had a “teacup” poodle for, wow, I just realized he lived to be almost 22. Good grief, I feel old.
Where did you find the cute cupcakes? I just ordered some from Moda Home, but it has a white background. I hope it’s as charming as it looked in the book. (I was the slacker who couldn’t go to quilt market this winter.)
I do hope you have a fun journey with your “quilty peeps”, and I’m laying in a stash of diet Pepsi, just in case you darken my door. That’s what all shops should have anyhow, right?
The previous post’s snowmen almost made me pee myself. I’ll never read “let it snow” quite the same ever again. Cami

  2. eugh…lol..kissing on the lips! Eek! I love the photos, as usual, just look at those cute dogs! I couldn’t help but smile at the 70’s photo and then when I read about the ‘ohhhhmmm’ and ‘John Travolta’ pose I chuckled! Gorgeous presents, I am off to look at the parin pattern now. How old are these girls? I think my Maisie would love this theme, wasn’t it just the craziest and most exciting time? Fashion was a bit wierd though hahah!

  3. Eeeewwwww!!!! No frenching the yappers!!! But they are cute yappers I must say. OMG I love those glasses the girls are wearing. I dont remember owning any of those in the 70’s. Love them!! Very cute apron and jacket you made. What a great auntie you. Guess that’s why Boo picked you for an auntie huh??? LOL!!!

  4. Wow the 70’s theme is so darling. I loved the 70’s and Disco etc….Your a wonderful Aunt to make all this cute stuff. Looks like they had fun.
Quick quick hot water, disinfectant……she’s been kissed by a Dog. Oh well I was remembering Lucy in Charlie Brown—–never mind. Jewels

  5. Now those are some CA-UTE yappers. You know I LOVE LOVE my Cami, but even I won’t let her touch my lips. I’ve seen where her mouth has been and it’s not a pretty place, LOL.

What great gifties you gave your niece. Once again inspiration flows from your posts. Gotta love those groovy outfits, they are far out man :)

    Hugs – Karen

  6. Wow, love the party idea!! My daughter just turned 14 and is constantly making fun of me growing up in a hippie era. That would be a terrific theme too!! Although, kissing the dog is definitely a very big ewwwwwww!! Another one of my daughter’s favorite sayings. Although the yappers are very cute.

  7. I don’t know which is the cutest… the doggies?? The DARLING apron??? The girls in their 70’s outfits??? The doggie kiss??? I’m such an animal lover the kiss is adorable!!
Love the apron fabric too… share the source??
    Hugs,
    Joni

  8. That apron is so great! I love it!

I’m hearing good things about that movie. Two of my friends want to see it soon, so I’ll probably go with at least one of them. Great cast, and I can relate to the “The Bucket List”….LOL!

  9. Oh – this is just the greatest! *ALL* of it – from the yappers, to the disco divas, to the fabulousity you created!

Sounds like so much fun, indeed!

  10. LOL!….and yuck with kissing the dog. Although I shouldn’t laugh too loudly. My husband lets our dog lick his ears and I’ve schooled him (the geezer) to tell me which side when it happens. Then I’d sit on the other side. Disgusting habit! But it makes him happy.

  11. They certainly look like they are having a fantastic time ! The embroidery on the jacket is so funny ! Although she’ll get some strange looks !

  12. What a great idea for a party! It looks like there was plenty of fun. Yes, the last picture was GROSS! My daughter, who is a MAJOR VW fan, was totally devastated by the abuse of the VW van. For shame, for shame. She thought you should know!

  13. Love thte photo of the girls! Looks like they have a wonderful time!
And the apron is stunning! Hopefully she will make you some yummy cakes!
Ps. I gave you an award, but you have already got it! I don’t mind, you deserve to get it again!

  14. The Yappers are darling. They’d get along great with The Purse Dog! And I love the kissing picture. We have lots of the those too. Cute gifts too.

  15. The yappers really don’t look amused! What a wonderful apron Aunty Anna! My eldest daughter had a 70s party a few years ago and. I’m afraid to say it. M and I dressed up as members of ABBA!

  16. I can’t wait to see Bucket List since I hear good things about it. Your two little yappers are so sweet !!!! While I have been sick (starting to feel better) my little yapper has been constantly by my side. I can’t even imagine her not in our life. That apron is adorable with the little pink ruffles…..you are so talented and inspiring. Love what is on the Jacket….”I kiss my dog on the lips”….me too. hahaha (don’t tell anyone)

  17. What a great party! And the yappers sre too cute. Love the kissy face picture!

Now could one who doesn’t have a ruffler foot (what ever the hell that is) make such an apron? :)

    HUGS

  18. I love dogs but I am not too sure about kissing them. Hugo, my dog thinks he would like someone to kiss but I have told him No thanks!
The apron is great, love the ruffle.

  19. ooooh, I just LOVE those 70’s dress ups!! How much fun! It just reminded me of my plans to have an 80s thrift shop formal one day. Maybe this will be the year. GREAT apron too – I am sure it was hugely appreciated!

  20. I love your apron – I really must learn to use my overlocker for more than just straight serging. Your embroidery made me giggle too.

  21. What a great post, Anna! Those girls are so cute in their 70’s outfits. Ah, I remember it well! Ahem! Anyhoo, the Yappers are cute, too. Love the apron and shirt you made. The apron is adorable!
I kiss my dogs on the lips, too! I move back quickly, so they can’t kiss me back! LOL!
