Valentine Boxers

Whoops! That was a little unintended mini-blogging break. TheManoftheHouse was hogging the computer doing taxes all weekend. Or as I call it, the yearly affirmation that my filing system sucks.* Moving right along.

I’ve been tagged by the loverly Cami to do the seven weird things about me meme. I’ve done this meme a few times before, so, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m going to list seven weird things that I love.

1. I love TheManoftheHouse. He’s by far the weirdest thing I love. We’ve surprised more than a few people that we’ve survived this many years, including ourselves.

2. I love dipping french fries in soft ice cream. Yum, Yum. Milkshakes qualify too.

3. I love knitting socks. Oh sure, it’s not weird to most of you, but some goonball at work once told me that it was weird, so it qualifies.

Valentine Boxers

4. I love shoveling snow. Especially late at night when everything is eerily quiet. (Hmmm, that might qualify more for the original intent of the meme — shoveling snow isn’t weird…loving it is.)

5. I love TheEmptyNestChild. He’s pretty weird too. He’s more like a dog than a cat, maybe because we’re dog people at heart.

Valentine Boxers

6. I love reading/learning weird facts. Or weird stuff in the news. Makes me feel just a little bit more normal.

7. I love making boxers out of fun fabrics. These are boxers for the boys for Valentine’s Day this year, skillfully modeled by Giselle SweetiePie. I tried a new waistband application this time — the previous versions have always used the elastic with channels that you sew on so the fabric gathers up. The boys complained that the waistbands were too bulky. Hopefully they’ll like this version better.

Valentine Boxers

I made three pairs this year, for TheFirstChild, TheSecondChild, and for my new nephew Boo. Poor Boo though, he’ll be receiving his boxers late as I won’t be able to get them in the mail until Thursday. Guess he’ll just be receiving them 364 days early!

I’m supposed to tag seven people, so how ’bout some newer bloggers (well, some are newer) … Stitchin’ Friends, Colors Outside the Lines, In the Garden with Miss Jean (who currently has a to-die-for sugar cookie recipe posted), Muddling Through, Quirky Bags, and Patches, Pieces and Me, and YOU. If you haven’t done this yet. Give it a shot and let me know so I can read seven weird things about you!

XOXO,
Anna

*You can skip this part. It’s just my yearly TaxRant. I really don’t mind paying taxes — I know we all must share the burden. But I REALLY resent how long it takes to prepare taxes. Time that could have been spent sewing. What kind of cornfed system are we working with here? You add stuff in, then you take stuff out? Are you a stripper with breast implants? Go ahead and deduct them! Are you sick and the Dr. told you that you need more exercise? Put in a pool and deduct it! Growing pot in your basement? Ok, that one’s a stretch, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Why can’t they just say “How much did you make? Ok, send in X percent?” Fair for everyone! How hard could that BE??? The End. Aren’t you glad?

  1. Very COOL boxers! What a fun thing to do! For many years, I would BUY my son a pair of weird boxers for Christmas and occasionally on other holidays, but I just haven’t had as much luck finding anything that appealed to me the last couple times I thought to look. Well, then again, I’m his MOM, so I suppose the boxers appealing to ME isn’t really the appropriate criteria, is it? But still . . . .

  2. OMG Boo is gonna love his own personalized boxers. Those are so cool Anna. LOVE THEM. And you are one weird chick with that french fry and ice cream thing. LOL!!!

  3. French fries and ice cream, did it start at McDonald’s? I can understand completely why you love it! It’s called Fusion Food!
Taxes, they are an awful waste of time. Our tax system is totally incomprehensible too and all is digital these days, so we both need an accountant to take care of everything. Arggg…..!

  4. I must be weird TOO!
I nodded and smiled throughout your list.
My Jr. High had a soft serve booth in the cafeteria where you could get cones and shakes. I lived on fries and chocolate shakes for three years!
    And the boxers? They ROCK!

  5. Ok another cute project. Love learning some new weird things about you, does that make me weird, LOL. I’m thinking tho that fries in ice cream, hmmmmm, maybe I’m missing something and should give that a try :). Your new nephew will be thrilled with his Anna original :)

    Hugs – Karen

  6. Shoveling snow? Yes, that is a little odd! ;)

I agree with your tax rant. We were doing some work on ours yesterday and I am looking to be done. It is just ridiculous how much time and effort it takes to figure out how much the government is going to take from you. It seems to me that it should be their job to figure that out, not ours!

  7. What a cute post! The boxers are adorable. The french fry dipping in the ice cream is a new one on me–but I will try it the next time I have any french fries as you never know about something until you try it.

  8. I’m envious of your organizational skills, whatever TM of TH thinks of them! You have to be organised to make three pairs of boxers in time for V day—if I attempted such a feat, they’d be lucky to get them by the fourth of July! Tried your hash last night….yum!

  9. LOVE the boxers, Anna. That waistband is sharp, too! Very sleek.

I’m totally with you on the rant about taxes…why not just pay a percentage? (Of course, starting next tax season, I won’t be paying income tax…but that’s for all the years I did!)

Our greyhound is more like a cat than a dog. Actually, she’s more like an area rug, but so are cats sometimes.

    XO

  10. I can totally relate to the french fries and ice cream. My friend and I used to go to Wendy’s and order fries and chocolate Frosties. We would dip the fries. Salty yet sweet!! What a combo!!

Love the boxers, hope the boys enjoy them.

Agreement on the tax issue, my filing system is probably similar to yours! Ugh!

  11. I am totally into dipping french fries into milkshakes. OOOO my mouth is watering, I think that might be on the menu for Valentines.

I also totally agree with you about the tax thing. An even % would be soooooo simple. I guess that is why they don’t do it. lol

Thanks for visiting my blog and come see me again, Julia

  12. I love the boxers. Very cute! I agree on the tax rant. Instead of posting that in small print, that should’ve been posted in the LARGEST print. :) Being a former accountant…an even % would have made my life so boring! Now I pay someone else to do mine. I don’t miss that stuff AT ALL! Too much sewing and blogging to do now. Take care, Vivian

  13. now there’s a thought….I could make some of these for the special men at the wedding. Might raise a laugh or three! You are a lovely lady Anna.

  14. Hilarious meme, Anna! And you come up with such cracking funny new ones each time. The boxers are very cute, too! I always wondered how you do taxes over there, since the geezer (and all his fam) still gets a tax package from the US every year being a US citizen and all. Over here, our employers automatically deduct the tax from our salaries for us and sends it to the govt. At the end of the year, it all kinda ends up right with a few dollars over or under.

  15. Hi Anna, nice work on the boxers, love the monograms! I know what you mean about the “filing system” for taxes, um, yeah. I need to tackle ours soon!

  16. I LOVE the boxers, Anna! Very cute … great material, too. I agree with you on the taxes … I think EVERYONE (rich and poor) should just pay a FLAT fee of 10% period! But that’s WAY too easy for the government … it just wouldn’t be the same without it being complicated! HA

  17. Good Morning and Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Thank you for listing me on your blog and I so love your boxers. Hmmm…7 weird things, where do I start….after reading your tax rant, I guess I could start with I used to be an Internal Revenue agent……

  18. The guys in your family have some pretty fun undies, that’s for sure!

    Happy Valentine’s Day, Anna! xo

  19. Mighty cute meme, and mighty cute boxers! Love the monogrammed initial…

    Hope it’s a Happy, Happy Valentine’s!
(and congrats on being done with the taxes!)

  20. I love the boxers… they’re adorable!! You are a creative mom.

And you are weird… shoveling snow?? It’s snowing again here. I can’t remember a year with this much snow in a very long time.
    Happy V Day!
    Joni

  21. thanks for revealing some more wonderful and interesting things about you. LOL!!! They are very thought provoking!!!

Love your boxers. How did you do the waistband?

  22. I LOVE dipping french fries in soft ice cream! Who knew I’d ever find a kindred dipping spirit??
Those boxer shorts are certainly cute! You do such nice work – I especially love the waistbands! I also concure with the payment of taxes, too. Such a pain……
