We interrupt this post to say:

Happy Birthday SweetPea!!!!

SweetPea Turns One

My little angel is 21 today!!! I have no idea how it could be that I have a 21 year old. I might look old enough, but I certainly don’t feel that old! We miss you SweetPea! As I write this, he’s gearing up for the big birthday celebration with all of his friends. He hasn’t had any Mexican food since he’s been in AU and they’ve found a Mexican restaurant for dinner. How very exciting to celebrate your 21st birthday in Sydney! Be careful SweetPea and have a grand time!

Now, on to SweetiePie’s shower. MyDadLovesMeBestSister absolutely outdid herself! It was a beautiful shower and I’m pretty sure everyone had a great time.

Shower Flowers

We decided that, rather than play games, we would tie a quilt for the new couple. After everyone arrived, we all went to the sunroom where we had the fabric all ready on a quilt frame.

QuiltTying

Many hands make light work! It only took us about 45 minutes to finish all the tying and take the quilt off of the frame. Everyone signed a block for the back of the quilt and I’ll bind it later. (Mama Bunny kept a watchful eye.)

QuiltTying

After the quilt tying, we all ate like pigs had some nice refreshments. And MDLMBS had the most beautiful flower arrangements for the shower. SweetiePie’s colors are black and white with bits of pink thrown in, so MDLMBS chose gorgeous pink flowers for the gift table. Because I’m a dope, I didn’t get a picture of the gift table until after the gifts were removed from it!

Shower Flowers

Anyway, the food was fabulous! In dopey move number 2, I didn’t get a nice picture of the buffet that MDLMBS had all set up. (What the heck — I was filling my plate!) You can catch a glimpse of it at the back of the gift table picture, under the congratulations banner. MDLMBS served ham and turkey mini-croissants, bruschetta, fruit kabobs, two kinds of yummy brie with crackers (one savory and one sweet) and lemon bar cookies cut into heart shapes. All with pink lemonade, among other drinks.

After some good food, SweetiePie opened many wonderful gifts. Along with a few that caused lots of laughs and raised eyebrows.

Victoria's Secret

And to cap off our afternoon, MDLMBS ordered the MOST fantastic cake. It was a raspberry swirl cake with an awesome buttercream frosting. It’s apparently the dessert of choice among all of her friends. When one of my friends asked what kind of cake it was and MDLMBS told her, I thought my friend would faint on the spot — she said it’s her favorite cake. How I wish I could send you all a piece to sample!

Cake

It was the most perfect, happy day. Thank you forever MDLMBS! You’re the best ever!!! Now, I’ll leave the rest of you with a blurry picture of my favorite gift of the day, given to SweetiePie by MDLMBS. (Please excuse the red marks, the lemon bars and raspberries were on this platter.)

Platter

It says This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with and love. I love this platter. It makes me all misty-eyed!

I hope all you wonderful peeps are having a great day. Oh! And happy First Day of Spring!!!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. I can’t believe your SweetPea is 21! That means we met 21 years ago as you were pregnant then! I know you miss him but how cool to celebrate your 21st birthday in AU!! The shower pics look lovely! And speaking from experience – as the mother of the groom – misty-eyed is allowed!
    Hugs!

  2. A very Happy Birthday to your SweetPea – love the photo!!

The bridal shower looks just perfect and what a wonderful idea to tie a quilt for the bride and groom :)

    xx

  3. That first picture is fab – will he forgive you for publishing that?! The bridal shower looks wonderful – what a beautiful cake and you’re right about that platter bringing tears to the eyes! What a beautiful shower!

  4. It looks like you had the perfect shower for Sweetie Pie! If that cake tastes half as good as it looks it must have been awesome. I hope Sweet Pea has a wonderful birthday down under! I think you mentioned he’ll be coming home for the wedding so he won’t have to wait too long to break in his I.D.

  5. Happy birthday to your girl! I love the picture!

The shower looks lovely. It must be wonderful to share these experiences with your daughter. I am hoping that in a couple of years I get to do the same thing!

BTW–My daughter is turning 20 in May and I still trying to figure out how that happened? How can I be this old?

  6. What a beautiful day you all had and that lovely cake looks scrumptious. You left us to wonder what was in the Victoria Secret bag:) Was that something you got SweetiePie?
I love the banner; I am definitely going to make one myself.
Thanks for sharing your memories and pictures.

  7. I absolutely love the idea of tying the quilt as a memory from her shower and that all her friends help to tie it. I know the times I have tied quilts with friends it has just been the most fun and everyone, young and old, like to tie one on! Congratulations to your son on his birthday and best wishes to your daughter. Thanks for sharing the pictures and letting us share in the fun.

  8. Looks like a wonderful time. I love the quilt tying idea instead of games. What fantastic memories that will hold for many years to come. I am sure there was much conversation and many laughs around that frame. Just like the old days. Your daughter will never forget that day.

  9. What beautiful pictures…looks like a lovely day with friends and food. I particularly like the picture of all the hands…reminds me of quilting bee’s of old. My DD1 (age 14) is desperate to attended a quilting bee…not that I have the foggiest how that would be done! :o) I sometimes think she was born in the wrong era!

  10. Isn’t it crazy how fast our children grow? It seems like just yesterday they were precious babes in our arms and now here they are grown into beautiful people–but we’ll always treasure the memories of their baby selves, too.

The shower looks like it was fabulous. I love that y’all did this quilt for her. The cake is gorgeous and what a beautiful platter. I wish for all of your daughter’s dreams to come true.

  11. just wiping my eyes here….those words are so beautiful! What a wonderful idea it is to have a wedding shower, we don’t do showers over here, well only the wet kind! Happy days and happy birthday that man in OZ!

  12. What a lovely bridal shower – it isn’t something we do much over here but seems like a fantastic idea! Happy birthday to SweetPea too (hope he doesn’t mind me calling him that!!!)

    Lucy xx

  13. Happy Birthday to sweetiepie! I bet he’s having a great time. Wonderful post Anna, I never read your blog without having a good laugh (more at the words you’ve crossed out!). Have a wonderful Easter weekend my friend

  14. What a fun shower and how meaningful to tie the quilt. I always groan when games are announced, myself. Everyone at my shower would have said- I don’t know how to tie. I just think that is ‘memory making’. I love the platter. Of course, I am a sucker for a darling platter.

  15. Happy Birthday to your Sweet Pea. When did they grow up I ask you??? Cause we are not getting older. We’re just not!!!
Shower pics were great. Your daughter looks so pretty. Even with half of her face cut off. LOL Now that’s real beauty I tell you.
I love that platter. Made me tear up too.

  16. The only consolation I have is that if I lived anywhere near you and I crashed the shower, you wouldn’t have minded! It was absolutely beautiful. And that cake! Georgeous!!!!!! My daughter-in-law didn’t have any showers. I felt bad for her. Her family is in Ohio but have only been there a few years. She lives in Maryland but as a military officer. They moved around alot and her best friends live in Iowa. So she decided not to have one. I still think the girls at work could have given her one. I was all set to fly back to Ohio for a shower, but alas…. I hope she has no regrets. When is the wedding?

  17. My youngest will be 21 in a few weeks too. He probably wishes he was in Sydney or somewhere hopping, to celebrate! That cake is a work of art! Sounds like a wonderful time. And i love that you tied a quilt instead of games…..

  18. Happy Birthday to SweetPea – hope he has a wonderful time down under :). Those pictures from the shower are beautiful, you have quite an eye for taking them Anna. Sounds like a wonderful time was had by everyone and that platter is a real heart string tugger, what a great gift. Now I will just pull myself up to the table and have me a big-o-slice of that YUMMY and beautiful looking cake., with a cup of coffee please, no cream or sugar :)

    Hugs – Karen

  19. Happy 21st!! Nice way to celebrate in Australia! The shower looks absolutely wonderful. However, would have love to seen the gift table, the food table, etc. But I guess the plate makes up for it. I am misty eyed myself. What a wonderful day!!

  20. I hope he had a ball in Sydney for his 21st!! I’m just loving the black and white theme – those little bags and the bunting are just divine!! I wish we did bridal showers here – it looks like heaps of fun!

  21. What a beautiful day that was! You made me hungry reading it. Don’t worry about forgetting some pictures, that just means you were fully in the moment and enjoying it to it’s fullest!! Beautiful cake and I love that sweet platter :)

  22. Happy Birthday to SweetPea! You’re not getting older, HE is!! That’s what I tell my son, anyhoo!
The shower photos are lovely – thank you for sharing them! The platter is lovely, and a gift they will treasure forever! I love the idea of tying the quilt, too – so much better than playing games, I think! I know, I’m a party pooper!

  23. Wow, 21 years old!! The time really flies, doesn’t it!! Still can’t believe I have a 16 year old. (how can i be that old??)

Looks like SweetiePie had a lovely shower, how nice!!It looks like every detail was wonderful and how special to have a quilt tying as part of it.

ps. the cake sounds (and looks) FABULOUS

  24. Have been catching up on your last 3 posts!
    Happy Birthday to Sweetie Pie!
What a wonderful Shower you had for the Bride to Be! So beautifully decorated.
Lovely pics for us to study.
    Love your crochet!

  25. What a great idea to have everyone do the tying on the quilt. I’m sure this will be lasting memories for everyone.

  26. Sounds like a day to treasure forever. Everything looks beautiful. And I must say, I would love to have a sample of that cake! If it tasted as good as it looks…well…it must’ve been to die for! Many more happy days to you, Anna.

  27. The hot cross buns look yummy! I grew up with them but haven’t had one in years.

It was such fun looking at all the bridal shower pictures. I’m ‘lifting’ a few ideas. A banner!! I forgot about that. What could I do CLEVER with hot pink, green, and tulips???
    Joni

  28. Looks like you all had a blast. :) Hot cross buns….hmm, well all I know about hot cross buns is when my youngest was learning to play the violin and played hot cross buns A LOT! :)

  29. wow! Happy Birthday Sweet Pea!! I am sure he is having a blast in Sydney!!!

Your bridal shower looks amazing. Love the decorations and all the wonderful things you did. The cake certainly looks like a work of art.

You have all outdone yourselves. We don’t really do things like that here – if we do, it is more of a ‘hens night’.

Glad you had a great time.

  30. OMG, how did I miss this?! I’m so far out of the loop nowadays. Everything at the bridal shower looks so lovely. And belated happy birthday to your second child, too! Great that he’s living it up here in OZ.

  31. What a beautiful wedding shower. The cake was amazing. It looked as though there were silk ribbon roses on it, but I know they were frosting. Gorgeous.

My SweetiePie (DD) is getting married in May and she, too, is 21. How does this happen?

Blessings to you during this wonderful time.
    Jody
