The Ugly Tree Models

On my break last weekend, I finally managed to squeak in a little sewing. I made Funked Out Peasant Blouse (which I purchased at Clementine’s — mecca for all things “funked out”), skillfully modeled for me by our Ugly Tree.

(Wait. Look at this tree first. Do you think this is an ugly tree??? TheManoftheHouse hates this tree and says it’s SO ugly. That’s why we call it the Ugly Tree. I love it. It reminds me of a weeping willow pine tree.)

Cupcake Swap

Anyway, back to my blouse. Unfortunately I don’t have a cute, hot little body like Lila Tueller, but it will do. Equally unfortunate is the fact that the Ugly Tree doesn’t have breasticles. This blouse looks lots better with a bust to fill it out. I’d show you mine, but then you’d see my spare tire and that would never do. (Hey! Maybe that’s why TheManoftheHouse doesn’t like this tree — it has no breasticles!)

Cupcake Swap

I altered the pattern a little. Lila has a zipper in the side of her version (which she notes in her pattern errata, is not listed in the supply list.) I skipped the zipper and inserted elastic under the breasticles. I also changed the sleeves a bit.

Cupcake Swap

I was afraid the billowing version of her sleeves would just annoy me. I’ve been wearing my shirt all day and it’s very comfortable. The sleeves can end either above or below the elbow, depending on how I choose to wear them.

Cupcake Swap

I love to sew and I’m hoping to do more of it this weekend. I have some use-it-or-lose-it vacation time to take tomorrow, so with the extra day I might be in luck. I hope you have something fun planned for your weekend too!

XOXO,
Anna

P.S. Are you in a swappy mood? Jo-Anne of The Carter Clan is hosting a Christmas Ornament Swap and Sharon’s at it again, this time with a Polka Dot and Ric Rac Swap. Go forth and sign up!!!

  1. If trees had bresticles, Herr Becher would do waaay more yard work! Your blouse is rockin’ cute… but a spare tire??? Obviously you’re just needing glasses. The eyes are the first to go. (I just see an super-creative skinny chica when I look in your general direction)
How come when I pop over here I always get a rabid craving for cake? Dammit. I haven’t any “points” left. *pout* C

  2. someone else commented before me!!! but it was camilla so we’ll let it go.
:bows down to cami’s croissant making abilities.
plus, she gets added points for calling you creative AND skinny.
very cute blouse!!! i bet you look darling in it.
have a super fun weekend. (don’t i sound like a cheerleader???)
and get TONS of stuff done, after the GARAGE PURGING!!!
    back up that truck woman!!!!

  3. I love the blouse you made; it’s really pretty and looks like something fun to wear. And your tree is a bit…different, that’s for sure. Your “breasticles” comment makes me laugh and, like another commenter stated, if the overgrown bushes and trees in our backyard had such things, then a lot more yard work would get done around here by my husband. Maybe I’ll put a sign saying “breasticles” around my neck and stand in the backyard for my husband to see when he gets home from work.

  4. “breasticles”. A new word to use. I like that!

The top came out cute and I love the fabrics you used. Lila has some great patterns–and some great fabrics coming out soon too!

  5. OH my heck! You CRACK me up! I so needed a good laugh tonight! LOL. I LoVe those trees! And that blouse! I have looked and looked at that blouse on Lila’s site, and have debated and debated on whether to get the pattern. I have so many projects and not enough time, as it is. So I haven’t. But now that I’ve seen your’s, I’m gonna get it! I need some um, fallish tops to hide um, the spare tire! I gotta start running! I think I can. I know I can. But I aint! LOL. Thanks for the comment on my banner! I love doing them! ;o) ooxx~jod

  6. OK, I thought when I started using wackadoodle that would be my favortie crazy new word, but
breasticles…now there’s a word for you!! Great post and what a beautfiul shirt, breasticles or not!!!

  7. What an adorable top, I’ll bet it is so fun to wear. Great job putting the different fabrics together.
I don’t think the tree is ugly – it looks atmospheric to me. (is that a word?) Maybe mysterious is a better (and real) word. The farmer hates it when I say “boobs,” maybe I shall switch to “breasticles!”

  8. Breasticles… what a fun word to start my day with!!
You’re a stand-up-comedian blogger to me!! I always enjoy reading your posts cause they make me smile, or laugh out loud!

  9. I love that word! Breasticles, breaticles, breasticles! Your post cracked me up, I almost fell off my chair. And your blouse is so cute. I’m sure you’re able to fill it out much better than your “ugly” tree.

  10. The tree is ugly, there’s no denying it! But the blouse is beautiful! I popped off to order the pattern right away but alas, I fear my breasticles would be too big to squeeze in there!

  11. Beautiful tree, and as someone somewhat lacking in the breasticle department, I can really appreciate its beauty!
Oh and the blouse is very delicious, you clever thing!

  12. What a beautiful top! I want to make one RIGHT NOW!!! But then I followed the link and the pattern seems to only go up to squitty little sizes so I am sulking! I know an American 12 is a UK 16 which I could maybe squeeze into if I added a little bit but how generous is the pattern? Do you know if it comes in any bigger size than a 12 for a porker like me?????

    I love it!

P.S. Not playing comment fighting with anyone today – being good!

  13. I like the tree. It has character and if it doesn’t have breasticles, what does it have hanging there?

I thought the Ugly Tree did a nice job of modeling, but honestly, Anna, I would’ve rather seen it on YOU and if you have a teeny spare tire (like most of us do) we’d be happy to see how nicely it looked on you. We might give it a try if we knew we looked good in it — tire and all.

    CUTE CUTE top!
    Jody

  14. I love the peasant blouse. Your fabric choices are just perfect. And it does look very comfortable. (I like the tree, too, but it does look a little “odd”.) :)

  15. Breasticles? As in popsicles? Oh,oh! Molly shouldn’t go down that road. Would lead to trouble for sure. And Molly is behaving herself this week. Suffice to say “Breasticle tree very pretty and the peasant blouse is sweet…..”

  16. Anna I love your breastically beautiful blouse! I also think the tree is kinda cool too, and for that reason, you may not want to listen to my opinion….

  17. Your version of Lisa’s blouse is really darling. Breasticles or not! And that tree reminds me trees in the Wizard of Oz. Its kind of got a personna about it. I’d be scared to cut it down. It might get really mad! Then what? Don’t do it.

  18. Your blouse is just darling!!Breasticles! You are one hilarious woman, there honey! I spit all over my keyboard!! Actually, your tree looks like something out of the Neverending Story movie.

  19. What a cute blouse that is. Breasticles or not. I’m lovin it. What pattern is that?? I may have to try my hand at that. I’m not one for making clothes but that is adorable!! I can see you frolicing around in it. And I’m sorry but that tree is UGLY. LOLOL

  20. I agree with TheManoftheHouse, the tree is ugly. But the blouse is adorable. I haven’t sewn any clothes for 20 years but I might have to try again after seeing yours, breasticles or not!

  21. That blouse is absolutely lovely – we have a catalogue over here called Boden – rather aspirational and very gorgeous – your blouse looks as though it has come straight from its pages.

I smiled at your use of the word breasticles! Not used enough in every day life I reckon.

  22. Anna, I can’t figure out how you manage to do all the normal things (I assume you do wash, eat, go to the supermarket, do dishes?) and also make stuff. I do spend… waste… time blogging, of course, but so do you.

Maybe in your neck of the woods, because of the curvature of the earth or something, you have 26 hours in every day… Or are you just more efficient?

  23. OMG – I have a new word to share with the peeps “breasticles”, LOL. Where do you come up with these things Anna – your a hoot. Hey that blouse is freakin adorable even hanging on the ugly tree without breasticles (just had to say it again). Now on me people would pat my stomach and ask when it’s due if I wore something like that, LOL. Must be all those cookies I ate the other day and tonight it’s PIE sister, a big old slice of PIE – hmmm could be a connection between treats and extra tummy, LOL.

    Hope your weekend is SPECTACULAR

    Hugs – Karen

  24. OMG! I had to have my husband come over and see the blouse. (He pretended to be as excited as I was.) I mostly knit, and my teenage daughter shows no interest in it whatsoever. BUT, she has dabbled with sewing. She kind of likes it, althought the extent of her accomplishments has been shorts. I’m thinking she’d love that blouse. I’m ordering that pattern!

  25. I’m supposed to be running errands but I popped in for a minute and can’t seem to leave. This post made me laugh out loud. Breasticles…too funny! I have the same problem as the tree! LOL

Your blouse looks great. I’m a chicken when it comes to sewing garments. I’m going to have to give it a try.

    Cassie

  26. Wow! I thought our family was the only one that says “breasticles” – I guess I shouldn’t admit to that fact, should I?
I don’t think the tree is ugly, although it does look very happy with your lovely blouse hanging in it! You need to sew a blouse for the Ugly Tree, and while you’re at it, put some breasticles in the blouse! Voila! Beautiful Tree!
    Too funny, Anna!
