Halloween Towels

Well Hello There!  Did you all have a nice weekend?  Our weekend was perfect.  We had beautiful weather, but I missed it because I spent most of the weekend in the dungeon sewing.  Yipee!  And, Friday night was the official start of fall in ThimbleannaLand — MeMum made her first pot of soup for the season.  Ham and Bean.  YumYum!

On Saturday, I was right in the middle of drawing around a template and Porky TheEmptyNestChild decided he needed to help.

Scruffy Sewing

He doesn’t sew very well though — he mostly just batted at my pencil and then eventually attacked my hand.  After awhile he got bored, so he found a door open on one of my fabric cabinets and disappeared inside where he could curl up for a nap.

In the meantime, I’ve seen so many owls around blogland that I decided to make a few owls.

Spider Towel

Nah, just kidding.  I made some Halloween hand towels.  (Don’t look SweetiePie!)  When I went to visit SweetiePie a few weeks ago, we stopped in at Erica’s.  They had lots of Halloween goodies in their shop and SweetiPie and I liked these spider towels.

Spider Towel

The spider comes from a pattern called Spooky Hollow #141 by Little Quilt Company.  The towels at Erica’s had a spiderweb on them, but when I got home I discovered the pattern didn’t have the web pattern, so I just drew them in and stitched toe-grabbers with white pearl cotton.

And finally, two quick things:

Erin is having a fun giveaway (her 1st!) and Juliette is hosting a fabric swap — they both look really fun, so you might want to check them out!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Mmmm Ham and bean soup sounds delish! Your kitty looks so sweet sitting there! Isn’t it funny how kitties love to situate themselves in the most inconvenient spots when you are working? LOL! I love it, though! Your towels turned out really cute!

  2. I really love the spider towels… so creepy cute!
And I love hearing about your cat. Our Gabby-cat is getting old and thin and even more precious.

Hope you’re enjoying being a mother-in-law! We’re going to AZ to stay with our newlyweds for ten days over Thanksgiving. My other daughter is going too. Just can’t wait!
    Love to you, Joni

  4. Oh Anna even this arachnophobe could handle these!!! They are fantastic! My girls were just ohhhhing and arrhing and saying how lovely they were and Ben came across and took a look and said “oh they’re good when did you make them?” … typical bloke absolutely no idea what is going on!!! I said “last night love” :)

  5. Yummy! I love Ham and Bean Soup, with onions (sorry Junie) did you also have corn bread with lots of butter????? What a nice beginning to fall. Toot tooting all through the towels were you not.? Scared the cat into the cupboard??? Haha. Love those cute little towels and I hate spiders. Oh, Orkin Man………

  6. What cute towels. I love owls. Your little helper is so sweet. Adn what did he make? OH he just took a nap!! My daughter has been hinting around for ham and beans but I have to get my order from Rancho Gordo first.

  7. Very cute, Anna!

I’m so happy to know what toe-grabbers are. I feel like I’m “in” with the quilters when I recognize such jargon.

I just love that cat. Quite a bit of sass, I would say.

    XO

  8. Mmmmmmmmmm… Ham & Bean! My fave! And your “owl spider” towels are just too cute. And sewing all weekend… sounds like a dream weekend. Look, I’m just gonna cut right to the chase… can I move in?

  9. Those towels are freakin cute Ms Anna – and you just drawed in the spider webs – just like that – you are clever there missy. The emptynestchild seems very content.

    Hugs – karen

  10. Love your towels … however, Spiders? You know my recent issue with a spider. UGH! Still recovering. Anyway – thanks for the mention about the Give Away! Still waiting for great ideas!

  11. Those towels are adorable! Who said spiders couldn’t be cute?
How could you craft without the help of your kitty friend? It just wouldn’t be the same, would it? LOL
Ham and Bean soup? Hold on, I’m coming!!!!

  12. Anna
This is my first visit and already I’m hooked. I, too, am in a soup state of mind as the nights become chilly and the leaves start to turn. The chocolate cake looks wonderful, too. Great food photos!

  13. Oh CUTE spider towels. And cute kitty-cat too. It’s nice to have company when you’re stiching, dontchat think?

  14. I LOVE your towels! Thank you for the heads up on the fabric swap, I can definitely handle that one! I feel so inspired when I travel to your blog:)

  15. These towels are great fun to see Anna! I love Halloween, and this time of year. I’m always amazed at how much you get done.

I used to do my sewing in the basement, which makes me think of a dungeon in my 102 year old house. I finally couldn’t stand it anymore, and I moved upstairs to the guest room, but I don’t really have enough room in there, and everytime someone comes to visit, I’m scrambling to put everything away. Someday, maybe I’ll have a real craft room.

Miss Luna likes to help too, and she loves to sit on top of the ironing board.

Thank you for all the sweet comments!

  16. Charming towels! Without little ones around, and no bunco group to decorate for, I don’t tend to pull out the Halloweenie stuff very often. I do have some great Halloween stitchery to do – but must finish the current artistic endeavor before charging into another one. Maybe next year…

  17. How do you do it all? Do you actually go to work? … or do you just leave the house, drive round the corner till your other half has gone and then sneak back in again? Aha, I’ve rumbled you, haven’t I?

That Scruff is a big lad, isn’t he? Has he been eating the chocolate cake?
