New Jammies

I’m not saying anything earth shattering when I tell you that winter is on the way.  (Well, I guess it would be big news to you guys in the southern hemisphere — you can ignore all this talk of cold weather and revel in your coming warmth.)  Already tonight, I’ve read two blogs that have mentioned a chance of snow this week.  Aaack — I’m barely adjusting to the idea of fall, but I know it’s coming.

So, during the sewing frenzy of last weekend, I managed to make some new flannel jammies from some fabric that had been aging in my stash.  (‘Cause I couldn’t be caught wearing old ragged jammies with my new caterpillars, could I?  And btw, should I be making these things for myself?  No.  I.  Should.  Not.  I’m not going to tell you how close Christmas is ’cause you already know, but I have gifts to make and I’m starting to get nervous.  This is my stall tactic.)

Flannel Pajamas

Fortunately for me, No-Mash Kim happened to blog about some CK jimjams that she received for her birthday, and even though she couldn’t keep them very long, she had them just long enough to inspire me.  I loved the fact that the collar was a different fabric from the main body.  (And coincidentally, I also just happened to be very short of the main floral fabric (Amy by Free Spirit.)

Do you sew-ers (I have to put a hyphen in there ’cause otherwise it reads like the place where you flush your waste and that just bugs me!) out there have a serger?  I LOVE my little serger — it lets me make clothes 3 or 4 times faster than I did in my pre-serger days.  These jammies only took a few hours to complete (not counting cutting out.)  People are often intimidated by sergers, and I have to admit, I am too.   Mine will do several different stitches, but I’ll bet 95% of the time, I use the same stitch — the 4 thread overlock.

C’mon Old Man Winter — I’m officially ready for you. That’s not true — the yard and house are still a mess, but we won’t talk about that.

So, let’s change the subject. I want to wish two of my bloggy friends the very best of luck with their fantastic new adventures: Sweet Nan has opened up her new online pattern and supply shop Nanny’s Quilt Patch.  And Adorable Karen has opened her everything-you-could-want-for-woolens online shop, Farm House Woolens.  (I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those needle punch kits.)  You Go Girls!!!

Speaking of You Go Girl, you know how you see an idea and you scream Eeeek! and fall in love and think about it day and night?  That’s how I feel about this adorable little patch that Cassie has made.  I.  Love.  It. — so very clever.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Hi Anna! You definitely have inspired me to make a flannel nightie (and maybe even with my serger!) Yours are darling, I love the different flannel for the collar too!

  2. I love the jammies. The fabric is perfect. I was thinking the other day that I need some new winter jammies. And by the way, I wear a medium!!

  3. I love your new flannel jammies! They look like they will be just the right thing to fend off old man winter…. brrr! Thanks for the links to all those other cool places.

  4. Those jammies are the cutest! And yes, I have a serger. And yes, it intimidates me. Although, when I actually use it, I’m so thrilled with how fast it sews, and how wonderful what I’ve just sewn looks. Unless, of course, I mess up. Which I manage to do more than I want to.

  5. Jammies???!!!! OMG… those aren’t jammies… those are dressin’ up clothes for me. Seriously, how could you ever were those stinkin cutest ever jammies JUST in the house. ADORABLE!

  6. What cute jammies!! I’m sure you’ll need them before too long, even though it’s still warmish. (80 this weekend here, ugh too hot for my taste)
I probably don’t sew enough to justify it, but I do have a serger and I looooove it. I don’t even know how to do much with it, but I just love whipping fabric through that puppy!

  7. i’m thinkin you need some slippers to MATCH your jammies.
those pj’s are darling anna. and you did a beautiful job on them. i’m quite impressed. i totally want to be you when i grow up. with a contrasting collar and all.
    :pops her contrasting collar

  8. Love your pjs, what pretty fabric, something to remind you of summer on cold winter nights. The contrasting collar really works with the floral fabric. Way beyond my sewing skills though I’m afraid.

  9. I always think of novelty prints when I think of flannel pjs, but these are sophisticated and beautiful! My new machine isn’t a serger, but does a few overlock stitches that I’ve been thinking of trying out…

  10. LOVE the jams. I truly do. I could not wear them as we heat our house with a wood stove and I would cook in them all night. But I would wear them just to lounge around in. I have no idea what a serger is and what it does. Maybe I should go educate myself about them.

    Jen :)

  11. Those are such cute jammies!! I’ll fight you for them!! LOL No, how about a cheesecake eating contest?? I’d win, but then I wouldn’t fit into the pj’s. Guess you better keep them and enjoy the snuggliness!!

  12. I feel very privileged to be able to know such great creative women such as those you posted about today and YOU. Those pajamas are so so cute! They make me want to turn on the heat, get in my slippers and make hot chocolate. It will come soon enough- maybe even this weekend. I love the flannel and your idea of the contrasting fabrics. Very sweet Anna.

  13. She knits, she sews, she cooks, she crafts, she plans weddings – and works at a job where she travels. SuperAnna! Please tell me your house is a mess and the dust bunnies have taken over, otherwise, I may never check into your blog again. Adorable jammies. What else do you have in your fabric collection to just “throw together?”

  14. Oh, my goodness. The jammies are sublime! I can make quilts and I’m happy if my corners match. Bbut clothing construction is waaaaayyyyy beyond my talents. Way to go!

  15. This is a test comment! Thanks everyone for your great comments and thanks for letting me know these comments keep closing!

  16. Very pretty jammies. I was just thinking yesterday that I need some new pj’s for the winter, but I will probably be buyinng mine. I just don’t seem to have the desire to make clothes of any kind anymore.

  17. Great jammies!!! You are amazing! Sharon sent me some wonderful polka dotted jammies from Pajama Gram and I can’t wait to wear them!

  18. As always, your work is stunning! Those jammies look cozy and comfy and so chic! Lucky! You’re making me want to pull out my sewing machine and attempt some jammies.

    :) Diana

  19. Anna,
I love your jammies!!! I love your use of 2 fabrics… CHARMING!! I love jammies. I tend to spend a great deal of my day snuggled in mine. Ahhhh… retirement.

On the days that I go to volunteer in that 1st grade classroom, I have to set my alarm for 6:00 and get out of my jams and into the shower fast. Not my cup of tea!!! And then I have to come home and get back into my jams and take a nap. Life is tough… tee, hee!

    Happy fall to you!
    Joni

  20. O.K. those are adorable. So much in fact. I went out yesterday and bought a pattern! Thanks! Just what I needed. One more project. LOL. ;o) ooxx`jod

  21. Super cute jammies! I have an overlock stitch that I have used a little – it’s fun and easy! We had snow here yesterday morning, and there may be a bit more on the way. I shiver just thinking of it! Not quite ready yet – oh well :)

  22. Love those jammies! I want…make that need…some new jammies. I live in Utah and we woke up to snow covering our front lawn this morning…I don’t know if I’m quite ready for the cold weather yet! =)

  23. Anna, Does it ever end with you??? The jammies are gorgeous. They look better than Karn Neuberger. I swear that you are the most talented person I know. You really have a gift. You make the most beautifu things. I’m so jealous. Just kidding, everyone has a special gift, although I really try at my sewing. hugs, Tracey

  24. I love, love, love my serger and I tend to use the same few stitches. I need to venture out some. I love your flannel pjs. It’s been pretty warm here still but the cooler weather is coming. So when it does, my flannel sheets come out.

  25. I love the jammies!! The fabric is perfect and they look SO cozy.
It snowed this weekend in SLC and I think I need to make me some too (ok, ok not until after market)!
    Mary

  26. Oh my, I am lovin’ those pj’s! The fabric is so very pretty! I have a serger, too, but haven’t had the need to use it recently. I used to use it all the time when I’d make clothes for my son, though. You are getting me in the mood to sew clothing again, Anna!
Thank you for the mention, my friend! I am going off to check out Karen’s website too.

  27. I’m goofing off on the computer. Just reading my favs. Loving those jammies. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of my name. Right there in Thimbleanna’s lovely post. Thanks for the link, Anna.

And I really do love those jammies. I’m not just saying that. I could cozy up in them right now. I’m sure blog reading would be even more inspiring if I was wearing them!
