TheEmptyNestChild Plays Host

Alrighty then!  I’m very happy to know that my readership is full of kilt lovers.  You are all a VERY funny group!  I’m sorry to say that I’ve exhausted my kilt pictures, but maybe if we’re all well behaved, some of our friends in Scotland could occasionally throw us a bone.  Ahem.

In the meantime, here’s a picture of TheEmptyNestChild and Sirius getting to know each other.

Kitties

Ok, just kidding.  I WISH Sirius and Cassie could come for a visit!  Instead, we’re just as pleased to have TheSecondChild and his new 5 month old kitty, Paul, home for the Thanksgiving break.  Scruff and Paul have spent the last day tormenting getting to know each other.  They spent awhile sizing each other up, and then finally, Scruff threw the first punch.

Kitties

He’s bigger than Paul and somewhat intimidating, but in spite of the fact that it looks like he’s going in for the kill, he’s been very gentle.

Kitties

It didn’t take Paul very long to catch on though, and he soon escaped from Scruff’s grip.

Kitties

He decided to show the portly old guy a thing or two and got him in a headlock,

Kitties

and then threw him to the ground.

Kitties

Before long, Scruff threw up his paws in surrender and begged for mercy.

Kitties

And being the gentle, adorable kitty that he is, Paul complied and they took a two-minute breather.

Kitties

Then they backed up and started all over again. That happened on and off all day except for naps and bedtime when we had to separate them so we could all get some rest. I suspect there will be more fun today, when we let them get together again.

Other than that excitement, there’s not much going on around here except that the $#@#$@ bobbin winder on my beloved Hester broke yesterday. That means she’ll have to go in for repair — right in the middle of my heavy sewing season. We. Are. Not. Happy. ;-(

So, instead of dwelling on that, here are a few happy things to think about:

  • How adorable is this??? I’d love to make something that pretty!
  • With Hester out of action for awhile, I’m really hoping to knit a hat or two for Jean. She’s going to collect hats for the homeless in NYC and take them there in mid-December. If you’re a knitter, you might want to give it some thought — it’s a good way to use up scraps and a simple hat really doesn’t take very long to make.
  • Raina is going to be sharing some Christmas traditions over the next month. If I can think of any ;-), I think I’ll join her after Thanksgiving. Maybe you’d like to play too?

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. Hi Anna…have you heard of the “Sidewinder?” I actually picked one up to take some of the burden off of my sewing machine. It works pretty good and is usually on sale at Joann Fabrics for about $25. I’m hoping to send a couple of hats to Jean, as well…and the applique bag is cute. What would you do with it?

  2. Anna, I absolutely love the pictures you took of the cats. Fantastic action shots and wonderful blow by blow play!! Since I have two cats, I can truly appreciate this. By the way, they would be perfect for my black and white challenge going on. They only need to add one more color…. LOL!

  3. How cute!! We had Bailey’s Mother with us for a month so I know what you are going through. Bailey and Gemini (Mom cat) got along wonderful, but Anna not so good. In fact very not so good. As talented as you are I know you could make that bag. It is adorable.

  4. LOL! I am not sure that that I am “kilt” lover as much as a lover of what was wearing said kilts! ;)
    YOU are TOO funny!
It looks like your kitties are having a fabulous time getting to know each other. They are cute! the black one sure can fluff out his tail! I want one….WAHHHHHH!!!
Oh, I checked out the Santa applique’ it is adorable.

  5. Great action shots of Scruff and his house guest. Paul looks like he might grow up to give Scruff a real run for his money some day soon!
Enjoyed checking out all your links, and mopping the subsequent drool [not quite so much!]

  6. Beautiful pictures, Anna! God, I love a man in a kilt… if he has nice legs that is. lol. It’s the Scottish blood running through my veins. I can’t help it. Thanks for the mention of the hat drive!

  7. Yeah, I used to get worried when my pair of mogs beat seven shades out of each other… but then realised it’s just playing.
Hey, am floating out the idea of another strip swap, as we discussed. Actually technically it’s your idea this time ;-)
And commiserations on the machine – v glad I got mine back without major surgery. I feel for you… x

  8. this is great! since I am still babysitting demon cat, I can truly appreciate this post. Demon cat and my Tencents are at the “we must co-exist so we will prentend the other beast is not there” stage.

  9. My machine is in the fixit shop as well and has been since last Wednesday – what rotten timing – hope your is a quick fix.

    jod

  10. Love the piccies ….. what lovely natured cats you have there!!! We nicknamed our girl “Shredder” a long time ago, she’s not a sociable kitty AT ALL. She’s the Queen of this castle – let no-one forget it LOL!!!
    Hugs,
    Joy :o)

  11. So funny to see how animals play-fight! Bails was taking on hubby’s twice-as-big and not-so-nice dog for some serious playfighting this weekend. Even with the other dogs fangs out (yes, she was playing…with fangs and mean-sounding growls), he kept going back for more. Silly little guy – I don’t think he knows how small he is.

Too bad to hear about your machine. I hope it gets fixed very soon!! That is a real bummer! Maybe you can knit something in the meantime? :)

  12. Oh no, I’m sorry to say that cats aren’t my favourite animals. I can see that they’re beautiful but I have rather a phobia of the very pointy claws digging into my lap. Plus it looks as though they’re quite cross with eachother – eek!

As for the crumble recipe – very happy to email it to you but sorry to disappoint – there’s no custard powder used in the crumble itself, just used to make plain simple lovely custard to pour all over the crumble in delicious yellow pools.

  13. How cute those kitties look! Of course they are not going to hurt each other!
I am always grateful that we dont have a ThanksGiving so close to Christmas!

  14. Paul does look a bit like Sirius, although he definitely has fuzzier ears.

No men in kilts around here, I fear, or not at the moment.

  15. This is better than professional wrestling. Not that I watch it or anything like that! I do think the kitties might need some stage names though. How about The Crusher? Or, perhaps, Dr. Pain? Or maybe…Oh, I don’t know. I’m all out of pro-wrestling name mojo. Maybe some more names will come to me when I am trying to go to sleep. I have the best ideas right before I nod off.

    Take care, Anna-
    Cassie

  16. Wait. Wait. I just thought of another one. How about Captain Claw. Or The Midnight Razor. Paul could definitely pull off that name. Ok. I’m going to go to bed now.

  17. Oh boy not a good time for Hester to be taking a vacation. Hopefully it won’t be a long one. Those pictures of the little people with fur are hysterical and your play by play is a hoot. I know when Cami and Dakota (my firstchilds-child) first get together there’s a whole lot of sniffing going on and then they get bored and take naps, LOL.

    Hugs – Karen

  18. I love the play by play of the kitties:) great pics of them. I am sending you a great big hug and happy thanksgiving wish to you and your family…enjoy:)

  19. What no kilts!!!!!!!! Never mind, those photos of the cats are just as lovely, glad to see that my two are not the only ones who fight! (my cats, not my daughters, but …. yes my daughters too!)
    Kimx
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving

  20. Those kitties are lovingly fighting! They are so cute together. I must say I’d rather see those handsome men in the sexy kilts, though. Did I just write that out loud?!? Ahem!
That little bag is too cute! I’m sorry Hester is out of commission for a wee bit, and I’m hoping she’s back and good as new in no time at all.

  21. Fun. :) At least it looks almost like a fair fight– Our black kitty is forever hiding and pouncing on the unsuspecting “victim.”
