Transition Weekend

Well?  How was the weekend?  It would have been better to ask you that on Monday…and I would have, but I couldn’t post yesterday.  Uploading problems somewhere along the line…Grrrrr.  Anyway, we celebrated the tenth anniversary of moving into this house by cleaning our clothes closet and living to tell about it.  It was a close call though, we almost succumbed to dust inhalation.  Whew – it was bad in there!  The closet is breathing a big sigh of relief now and I counteracted the dust effects by spending a whole day outside in our beautiful fall weather.  One last day of yard cleanup with the other man in my life, John Deere.  John, Dear.

Fall Cleanup

John and I go back 22 years and he’s getting tired, but he squeaked through another year without complaining too much.  It was a perfect fall day so I thought I’d wave at you with a modified Wilson.  Don’t you think I look hot with my hearing protection?   (I’m channeling my inner robot.)  They’re a new accessory this year — I should have been wearing them all these years of mowing — John has a little trouble with volume control.

Fall Cleanup

I’m pretending the hydrangea stalks are my antennae.  All the leaves are gone from the hydrangeas now, but the gorgeous pink flowers are still there.

Fall Cleanup

So, this concludes another season of yard work.  It was one of the best that I can remember — our summer was just perfect — cool and just the right amount of rain.  And our fall weekends have been just the right weather combo too, so that the final clean up wasn’t with snow.

Fall Cleanup

Potential snow flurries are in our forecast by week’s end and I’m looking forward to the new season of extra time to work on inside projects.  As soon as the outside work was over, I started one — a little red for Christmas, which is screaming at me everywhere I turn.  (Man, I wish retailers would cut us some slack and let us enjoy our seasons!)

Red Crochet

Anyway, I’ll be spending my week prepping for Thanksgiving and sneaking in a little crochet here and there.   I hope you all have a fun week planned too!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Do you ever cut your hydrangeas and use them for dried flower arrangements? With yard work season done, more time for crafting!

  2. Ha, Ha, I just love your modified Wilson pose? We still need to get outside to do the tree/hedge/shrub trimming. The trimmer was not working, but now it is back so we just need a good day. Do you hire out? LOL

  3. Hey, my closets could use a little cleaning too – when are you available? :) Last evening I was driving down the road and noticed a house with its inside Christmas tree all lit and decorated, not to mention a neighbor on a street behind us – now all decorated outside and lit – from head to toe (I don’t think he missed a square inch). Frannie doesn’t understand why we aren’t all decorated yet.

  4. Thanksgiving is such a nice holiday – why can’t we relax and enjoy food and family without feeling so rushed into Christmas. Maybe we need a campaign to move Turkey day to September!

My parents always had a John Deere mower like yours (of course every tractor Daddy had, big and bigger, was a John Deere!) Gotta love a Deere!

  5. You’ve been busy. I’ve been ignoring the outside chores. I just hate fall clean-up. My husband raked all the leaves from my flower garden about a month ago and they need the cleaning again but I really don’t feel like doing it so I won’t!

Fresh closets and outdoor clean-up done. You must feel very accomplished!

  6. I’m the eighth commenter – moving up! :)
I DO love your hot hearing protection. I’m also glad I never have to mow! I was thinking of you as I watched a program on the craziness of holidays and how Christmas music starts on November 1st. Oh well, I’m enjoying it. Your red embroidery looks beautiful!

  7. I’m always glad when yard work is over for the season. This year I didn’t do much and I still have a lot that needs to be done before the frosts really start to hit. I’m having trouble being motivated these days.

  8. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday – I wish it didn’t feel like it just about gets passed over in the rush to Christmas! I keep thinking I should already have my fall decs put away but then I remind myself it’s not even T-giving day yet! We have a John Deere mower too, they’re expensive so it’s good to hear yours has held out so long!!

  9. And how does The Man Of The House feel about your liason with John, Dear? I’m betting this is one instance where he indulges your roving eye! The media are always trying to rush-rush-rush us from one holiday to another. Turn off the tube and enjoy your Thanksgiving!

  10. I love Hydrangea’s as well.. I had a romantic idea of having about 10m’s of them down the side of the house.. summer killed that idea two years running.. (its now a bank of agapantha’s and the heat doesn’t worry them so much).. I love gardenia’s as well, we have about 40 of those out the front and I can smell them already at 5.45am! (gonna be hot today here again)..
Congrats on getting motivated to clean up.. fee free to email me gardening mojo! :O)

  11. Love the photo of your shadow!! Great creative photography!!

I’m glad you survived your closet clean-up and that falling boxes didn’t kill you (I laughed so hard when I read that).

We’re having a beautiful November so far, also… open mouth insert foot… we’ll probably see snow tomorrow! Hope not!!
Hugs to you and your Turkey!!

  12. Shadow Thimbleanna cracks me up. You are so creative. Does your husband know about the other dear man in your life? That glimpse of your crocheting is intriguing … looking forward to seeing what it is.

  13. I love your hydrangeas! The colours are fab…..I hope you enjoy the change of season = here all we have is grey grey grey….rain rain rain…..

  14. I wish the retailers would give us a break here too – they started Christmas in September! Easter starts on the 1st January – BLECH!
I’m still laughing at Wilson :D

  15. I had to laugh at your Wilson pose. Glad you survived the dusty cleaning of your closet. Your crochet looks nice too, is it for xmas!

  16. I should call you green thumb Anna today! Your hydrangeas are beautiful! Reminds me of the ones that used to grow wild that I would see when I would go for drives in the country near Mt. Fuji in Japan. They are very cherished there for their beauty.

Happy Thanksgiving from Kathy in California!

  17. Oh, the power you must feel when riding about on a tractor mower! Our garden’s so tiny I doubt you’d need to make more than one circuit to cut all our grass.

  18. You’ve been super productive, Anna! We still have quite a few leaves blowing around the yard and fenceline, but they’ll stay for the winter. If they’re still around for spring, Brian will get them with the Snapper.

    Happy Thanksgiving! XO

  19. Your John, Dear looks like he held up better than my Mr. Craftsman. He’s been welded and bolted and had numerous transplants along the way.
I love your hydrangeas. I think I need some next year:) Happy Thanksgiving to you!

  20. I always feel inspired when I hear about someone else accomplishing major cleaning or yard work. I’m not saying that it actually makes me get out there and do anything myself, but…ha, ha. I’ve done a little yard work this week but mostly I’m camped on the couch knitting. I love vacation!

So.. you lived in Lancaster. You probably know my town then. It’s Taft, which also means that you also probably understand why we spend so much time at the coast, LOL. It’s only an hour and a half drive to Pismo for us although we’re more likely to go to Morro Bay. We used to drive through Lancaster regularly to get to my sister’s house in Redlands until they moved. I admit that I don’t miss that drive although I miss having them “close.” They’re in Omaha now.

  21. Hi Anna, I love your hydrangeas so pretty ~ you have one clean tractor woman, do you wash and wax every time you use it? I blow mine off with the blower besides its once a year bath. Your yard looks great! Happy Thanksgiving*****
