Cupcakes in a Hurry
February 4, 2010 on 11:30 pm | In Cupcakes |So. I was happily minding my own business, having a very boring week (wondering what I could possibly blog about, I might add), and when I got to work this morning, there was an e-mail announcing that we’re going to have a potluck lunch tomorrow in honor of the Colts playing in the superbowl on Sunday. (In case you don’t know, we do live in Indiana.) Apparently the stars were all aligned because I just saw this post last night. I really don’t care much about football, but cupcakes…cupcakes are another story! I’ll go for any excuse to make cupcakes!
So, at lunchtime, I grabbed the little Petunia I work with (she’s TheFirstChild’s age - eek!) and we ran over to the local cake decorating store. They had all the goodies we needed (they even had cool stuff for Saints fans), including this cool new stuff I’d never worked with called Disco Dust. I was just going to use sprinkles, but little Petunia thought this stuff was so cool and convinced me to try it.
Can you see the sparkles? Sometimes you can’t see it in pictures, but I managed to get a highlight or two. It’s like superfine edible glitter and it’s really fun to work with.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to finish making about 12 of those little Go Colts! flags. And then eat a cupcake of course. Never let a diet stand in the way of a cupcake!
Have a good weekend — and don’t forget to root for the Colts! ;-)
XOXO,
Anna

Your cupcakes look yummy. I know what you’re talking about. Diets take a back seat to cupcakes. I made some Sunday. :) I hadn’t seen the glitter dust. I’ll have to try to find some. Thanks for another bright idea!

Yummm - cupcakes! I was planning on making Pioneer Woman’s chocolate sheet cake - but if I could find those little horseshoe decorations I might have to make it into cupcakes too! Go Colts! (PS: love your valentine header!! You always have the best decorated blog!)

Yum. I love the sparkles! You have some lucky co-workers :)

I am possibly the world’s biggest fan of edible glitter - we use it here with abandon. I even put bright purple disco glitter on the marshmallow rice krispie squares I took in on my last day of work (I took more sophisticated treats too!!!). Some people were frightened to eat it - but since they had bought that shade for me they had to! I usually go for pale colours - baby lilac or gold or very pale pink. Great stuff!

Those cupcakes are so cute and look delicious. I’ve never heard of Disco Dust, but it looks nice and sparkley. Love the little flags.

So I am not much of a fan of football, but I would come to any potluck that had those cupcakes. Anna, they are wonderful! Now baseball is a different story. Can you make some Red Sox themed ones and send them along?
Comment by Jackie — February 5, 2010 #
YUMMY cupcakes! They are adorable. Great job Anna. I’m making chili on Sunday and watching something OTHER than the superbowl. Football is just not my thing.
Comment by Jen — February 5, 2010 #
I’ve never heard of edible glitter before, but that sounds fun. I don’t follow football (except for Univ. of Alabama), but it’s one of the few things my husband likes to watch on tv.
Comment by Anne — February 5, 2010 #
YUM!!!! Can I have one???? teehee

Watching football, in my opinion, is the surest and fastest way to kill brain cells. And I’m jealously guarding the health of the few I have left……But cupcakes are an entirely different story! Very creative! As another commenter mentioned—it’s almost a shame to eat them!
Comment by molly — February 5, 2010 #
The cupcakes are cute! You have given me an idea of what to make for the party on Sunday. I hadn’t even thought of cupcakes. Thanks! I really like the disco dust…fine, but sparkly.
On another note, you made me smile with “Petunia”. I have taken to calling my youngest Petunia. When I do, she giggles and says, “But my name’s not Petunia!” Kids are so fun.
Comment by Lisa — February 5, 2010 #
Of course you had to eat a cupcake. There’s no telling what Disco Dust might taste like. You were simply looking out for the “team”. Love the cupcakes. If Mr. Handsome sees them I will probably have to make some. Right now he’s in love with Lemon Gems. We eat them frozen. DI. VINE.
Go Colts! (But only because I know it will make Mr. Handsome happy if they win. I don’t really care. Oops. Did I just type that?)
Comment by Cassie — February 5, 2010 #
They’re too pretty to eat.

Dang cute there sister - and love the edible glitzy fairy dust - sweet :). Well since the Vikings aren’t in it (boo hoo) I root for your team :)

Go Colts! Hope Freeney can heal quickly enough. We need to sack up little ‘ol Brees, even if (especially since!!)he’s a Boilermaker!
Maybe Freeney needs one of your cupcakes, I’m sure that’d make it all better. They look great.
Comment by Cindy — February 5, 2010 #
Go Colts!! (Even though those of us in Lafayette are in a win-win situation with our boy Drew. sicker, snicker!) Hopefully the Colts prevail.
Be careful in the snow this weekend, Thimble. It will make a pretty backdrop in which to watch the big game.
Great cupcakes. I may have to have my baker kid make some. They got out of school early today and I think she needs something to do!
Comment by Cindy — February 5, 2010 #

love the new banner.
you never cease to amaze me..
those are WAY cuter than my superbowl wings!!!!
my bff from work was 12 years younger than me. one time, someone said something about how proud i must be of her. we both realized what she was saying and burst out laughing. not only am i NOT old enough to be her mother, i’m VERY white with blonde hair and blue eyes, and let’s just say she’s not.
i’m sure your cupcakes were a smashing success. move over bakerella!!!

I looooooove cupcakes! But would you believe it? I don’t think I’ve ever made any…well maybe in my childhood? I must have, right? I was just dreaming up a post I may do re: Valentine cupcakes, and then I visit your blog to find Super Bowl cupcakes! I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising, given the popularity of cupcakes these days…..it just felt so inspiring!
Yours are beautiful, and I love the Disco Dust. I saw it recently on a confectionery/baking blog, if I remember where I’ll give you the link. I just remember someone’s blog post saying something like, “real eye candy, so sweet, you’ll get cavities on your eyeballs”, and I cracked up to think of it.

I am a huge fan of Payton Manning so Go Colts. And those cupcakes will be a contributing factor to their win. Or at least that’s the story I would give. They look like a winner to me.
Comment by Susan — February 6, 2010 #
Very cute cupcakes Anna, great decorating! You know some super bowl parties are all about the food, may the best team win!
Comment by Shawn ; ) — February 6, 2010 #
Awesome, Anna! They look delicious and so cute. We’re not into football at our house. Brian said today (on his way out to clear the driveway of the foot of snow we got last night), “Hey, tomorrow’s the superbowl!” I’m rooting for the Colts. That was always my dad’s favorite team when I was growing up. XO
Comment by Jill — February 6, 2010 #
Oh Anna, You are clever! What perfect little good luck charms those cupcakes make!
Love them.

Colts? Superbowl? Um. Football? Baseball?
Wimbledon I do know about. That’s tennis. And Andy Murray’s Scottish. That about takes us to the end of my sport knowledge.
Comment by Isabelle — February 7, 2010 #
Those are very covetable, and I don’t even follow football. Cupcakes have special powers for good :D

Yummy cupcakes! Sorry the Colts didn’t win!

Like I said, everything is done with perfection. That is a gift you know. Not everyone can do things like you. I’m just sayin’.
