A FUN Party
June 16, 2010 on 10:30 pm | In Cupcakes, Family | 52 CommentsThe middle of the week is here already! I’ve been pretty lazy this week — just resting up after my niece’s big graduation party this past weekend. We had the best time and MyDadLovesMeBestSister had a wonderful party for the newly minted graduate.
The weeks around graduations here in the states are just crazy. Everyone has a party for their graduate and everyone party hops until they’ve turned into pumpkins. Having to squish your party in among all the rest is a challenge, so MyDadLovesMeBestSister decided to have a party that didn’t include lunch or dinner, but was right in the middle — Cupcakes, Coffee and Ice Cream. It was a BIG hit. Huge! Lots of my niece’s friends said it was their favorite party. What’s not to love?
MyDadLovesMeBestSister had a barista there to make all sorts of coffee drinks — hot and iced. My younger niece and her friend scooped ice cream for the guests to make their own sundaes. And then there were all those cuppiecakes. Sadly, I didn’t take pictures of the cupcake bar until there was a big dent in the pile, but you get the idea. (I used Martha Stewart’s little cupcake flags and SweetiePie did most of the cupcake frosting. Didn’t she do a great job?) I thought it was pretty funny that the pink ones weren’t as fast to go as the other colors. What’s wrong with pink???
Every detail of the party was stunning. Absolutely gorgeous! The flowers were breathtaking (check out those lime flowers — swoon!) In addition to the florist bouquets, there were a bunch of canning jar centerpieces that held gerbera daisies and paint brushes. My niece plans to study art in college — how cute is that? And in a fun twist of events, the colors my sister chose matched the quilt I’d made my niece. Look at all the pretty tablecloths she whipped up from quilter’s cottons.
Yum Yummy. I want to go back and see it all again. My sister sure knows how to throw a party!
Next Up — My BESTEST Auntie from Utah arrives tonight — I’m soooo excited!!!
XOXO,
Anna

That looks like the best kind of party. I would never have thought to hire a barista – what a good idea!

It sounds like a fantastic party! What a great idea, and I am sure most people love having someone to make their coffees for them. Hope you have lots of fun when your aunt visits too.

What a fabulous party – I shall have to file that idea away for a future occasion I have a friend who made cupcakes for her granddaughter’s 18th birthday – she put a little silver charm on each one for the guests to take home!

What a wonderful party. And I love the Barista idea. When my granddaughter graduated in May her folks did a brunch, 10-1PM. That was easy , egg casseroles, lots of sweets and big fruit salad but the Barista would have made it even cooler. Have fun this week!

Your photos look like they are from a magazine layout! Sounds like a fun week…congratulations to your lucky niece!

What a great party! Sounds like there was something for everyone. I just ran across some of those cute cupcake liners – had to get some for the 4th of July! Congrats to the grad!
Comment by Kristy — June 17, 2010 #
Looks like a great party. What a blast. I was wondering if I could book you now for cupcakes. I’ll have the first of 4 graduations in about 6 years. Whad’ya think?
Comment by Cindy — June 17, 2010 #
Looks like creative party planners run in the family. Would you know I didn’t have one grad party to go to this year!
Comment by Susan — June 17, 2010 #
I love the idea of an in-between party – so much more fun than lunch or dinner. The cupcakes look fabulous and I’m sure the only reason the pink ones didn’t go first is that they look far too pretty to eat!
Hope you have a lovely time with your aunt :o)

What’s not to love, indeed! My mouth is watering. (Doesn’t that sound better than, “I’m drooling.”?)
Is this the aunt for whom you made the pretty aprons?
Comment by Elaine/MuddlingThrough — June 17, 2010 #
An afternoon tea party is great fun! Love all those cakes and the ice cream!! Yum!!
The barista was a great idea!
Have a ball with your Auntie!
Comment by Miriam — June 17, 2010 #
Well, never heard of that before. We don’t do it here. Looked like a good party.
Give us time, though. We’re now calling our school leaving dances “proms” so who knows?
Comment by Isabelle — June 17, 2010 #
What a neat idea…We have done sundae’s for birthday parties and they’re a HUGE hit. I’ll have to remember this for our youngest one’s graduation. We had 2 parties on Sunday and I would have loved one of them to have been like this one. It wouldn’t have mattered if it was the first or the last one we went to.
Comment by Judy — June 17, 2010 #
What a great idea, I was just sharing it with my mom. We think it is genius. SO cute. And of course your quilt matched, that just makes it even better!! Have fun with your Aunt. What are you going to do?
Comment by Dandelion Quilts — June 17, 2010 #
What a great idea for a graduation party, everything looks beautiful. It is rather odd that the pink cupcakes didn’t get snatched as quickly, maybe there were more men than women present.
Comment by Junie Moon — June 17, 2010 #
What a wonderful party! Congrats to the Graduate.
Comment by meggie — June 17, 2010 #
All details are very lovely, as one might expect from the Thimbleanna family. I like the barista idea, but I think I would have had to dive into the bucket of icy bottles! Whoever came up with plastic bottles was a bad, bad man.
Comment by Karen — June 17, 2010 #
That sounds like the perfect party! The decs are gorgeous and your cupcakes look divine. I would have eaten the pink ones. :) Love the quilt you made for your neice. It’s juicy-licious!
Hope you have a super weekend, Anna.

Love your graduation party pics. I’ll file them away for when my daughter graduates in a few years. But next year she’ll be 16, and I was wondering if you have any special ideas for that milestone?
Comment by heidi — June 18, 2010 #
awww, your party shots are fab Anna! It looks like it was a lot of fun. I have to say I would have chosen blue, green, or yellow over the pink too. I’m not sure why though? They just seem more summery and happy?
Comment by Penny — June 18, 2010 #
How pretty and fun!!! We are having a party for oldest boy but not till July when the farming is mostly over. I wanted to do cupcakes but he wouldn’t go for it – wants a cake. I guess he doesn’t care that cupcakes are IN!!

Great party. In the “old days” we often just had cake/coffee grad parties. It’s nice to see the idea come back. The cuppycakes are darling. The last time I did cupcakes, I couldn’t get my frosting to come out nice from the piping bag. Do you use a particular frosting to get such pretty results? I’d love to know.

Now THAT is a party! Every detail looks fab, I love the tablecloths outside, so pretty! Could we have a sister wife reunion party like that, only with margaritas instead of coffee? Oh, and can your aunt be there to bake bread with us? And your cute plant eating critters can help us sew like in Cinderella? xoxo
