Now, We’re Cooking with Gas!
June 17, 2011 on 8:46 pm | In Around the House | 146 CommentsHoly Cow, it’s been rough to sneak in any blogging these past few weeks. Nothing fun happ’nin around here. No fabric or needles. No cooking. No fun making o’ much. It’s been a big week here in the reconstruction zone though. I’m thinking we’re turning the destruction corner and now things are starting to be put back together. We had to have a few cabinets re-made and they were installed on Tuesday. Then, the appliances arrived on Wednesday. WooHoo! (Although the WooHoo was tempered a bit by the almost all-nighter that we had to pull between the two deliveries to get the drywall and electrical stuff ready — we’re still tuckered out!)
Anyway, new stove — look! It’s shiny and dusty. I just wanted to get a picture — it will never look like that again. ;-( We’re not really cooking with gas yet — there’s a little complication with hooking the gas up, but I’m sure it will be solved … sometime. Haha.
In the meantime, I thought we’d have a little New Stove contest. I had a choice of knob colors on the new stove. It was like having a little angel and devil sitting on my shoulder screaming at me. Did my wild side prevail?
Or did my conservative tendencies win out?
If you’d like to throw your guess in the pot (by, say, Saturday, June 25th at midnight), I’ll take all the correct answers and have a little drawing. I’m thinking the prize will be a charm square pack of Bonnie and Camille’s new fabric line, Ruby. (It’s been ordered, but not here yet – I’ll ship it to the winner as soon as it arrives.)
So. Whatddyathink??? Red knobs or black???
XOXO,
Anna

What fun to be able to choose!! I think you went with black to match your granite benchtops.
Glad to hear that thing are moving along and that you will soon be cooking with gas. Can’t wait to see more pics of your kitchen makeover.
Comment by Lisa — June 17, 2011 #
What a lovely shiny new stove! I think you went with black knobs. Here’s hoping your kitchen’s done soon!
Comment by Carmen — June 17, 2011 #
I think it’s the fun red!
Comment by Anne Marie — June 17, 2011 #
Ha! I think black. Glad its start to come back together, though. How fun to have a new kitchen!
Comment by Valerie — June 17, 2011 #
oh…my…I would want the red…but I would probably get the black…but I think you were brave enough to get the RED… so I pick RED…
Comment by Nancy — June 17, 2011 #
Ooh such a hard decision. I am guessing you chose black too although the red ones look great.
Comment by sue — June 17, 2011 #
Hmmm? For a Ruby charm pack, I will guess red. Just had my kitchen remodeled and I just love my new stove. It’s not as fancy as yours, but it’s a “good cooker.” Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Happy Cooking!
Comment by Brenda — June 17, 2011 #
I think the slick black. Very clean look.
Comment by Kayla — June 17, 2011 #
Ha, this is cute, did you get a set of both so you can pull them off and change when the mood strikes? no, then you chose BLACK!
Comment by Susan — June 17, 2011 #
Knowing you as a wild and wacky gal….I say RED!
Comment by Anne — June 17, 2011 #
I hope you went with Red. That would make for a snazzy kitchen.
Comment by Jana — June 17, 2011 #
I gotta go with black. The red just look too “nuclear detonation” for me. ;)
Comment by Kristyne — June 17, 2011 #
If that’s a Wolf stove, then it’s all about the red knobs! I’ll say red.
Comment by Pam — June 17, 2011 #
I’m on the side of the devil… red! Love that cooktop… mine is about to be axed, literally! I can’t wait to convert to gas :o) toni xxx
Comment by toni xxx — June 17, 2011 #
Hmmmmm…I would be considering the dust/dirt factor. I think red would show less of both:)
Comment by Mary Ann — June 17, 2011 #
Oooh nice and shiny!
I’d like to think you went wild and picked the red, but I’ll have to temper my enthusiasm with common sense. The black would match your new kitchen much better and is more versatile, so I believe, Anna, that you stayed on the straight and narrow.
Comment by Rachel — June 17, 2011 #
I love red accents but in the end I think I’d have gone with the sharp black and I’m guessing you did, too. Am I right?
You must be so relieved to be coming to the end of your project!
Comment by Jan — June 17, 2011 #
I’m going to say red, they’re definitely more fun.
Comment by Anita — June 17, 2011 #
I’m guessing RED only because that’s the color I would pick :)
Comment by Cris A — June 17, 2011 #
Red. Definitely red. You must have done something to sidle over to the wild side after that green tile countertop . . . ;o)
I’m so glad you’re turning the corner! That’s one of the best points in the whole process. Hang in there!
Comment by Annalea — June 17, 2011 #
Black is a much better contrast with the stainless. Red seems to sorta lose it’s bright cheeriness against the stainless.
Comment by Heather — June 17, 2011 #
I too think you went for the black ones!
PS: You’ll love to cook with gas. I wouldn’t want to go back to electric for a minute!
Comment by Vreni — June 18, 2011 #
As much as I love the red, being pratical, eventually they would show dirt… dark dirt, maybe black permanent marker that someone transferred from a moist mitt… The black may show cupcake batter, but that will wipe off easily.
Comment by Amy — June 18, 2011 #
I’m guessing you went with….red!
Gas is the way to go!
Comment by Michelle — June 18, 2011 #
Ohhh I guess the devil won and you went red!!!!
Comment by Miriam — June 18, 2011 #
Oh definitely the red knobs. I have new stove envy… lol.
Comment by SuperMomNoCape — June 18, 2011 #
I would guess black!!! So you can change the colors in your kitchen when you want, and don’t have to worry about making things match the knobs!
Good luck!

Blogging is the last thin on my mind lately!
Love that new stove Anna!! I don’t think you let the devil win! I guess the black knobs will fit your new kitchen design!
Happy weekend!

Comment by Lisa — June 18, 2011 #
In memory of the red glow of electric burners, I say RED.
Comment by Janet — June 18, 2011 #
You don’t need to enter me , I certainly don’t need any more fabric….I’m hoping they are red….or maybe you went for some of each ?
Comment by jodie — June 18, 2011 #
I would never have the courage for the red. I am not casting nasturtiums on your bravery, but I think you went for BLACK – I’m sensing a common geekiness between us.
I should also add I am possibly the least perceptive person on the plant ;-)
Cannot wait for the full reveal. I do love my kitchen but I’m always up for lusting after someone else’s design choices!
Comment by dottycookie — June 18, 2011 #
Planet, obviously. I doubt you could fit many people on the average plant, perceptive or not.
Comment by dottycookie — June 18, 2011 #
Ohhhhh, I love the red, but I think we might be alike, somehow wishing we had the guts to go red, but going for black instead!!
Comment by Saskia — June 18, 2011 #
Red!! :-D
Comment by Ginger — June 18, 2011 #
That is looking like a stove you can do some serious cooking on. I hope you chose the red. It is just so fresh and fun looking. Your kitchen is sounding fantastic. It must be exhausting to have workers in your house all the time, but the effort will be worth it.
ps not entering the giveaway
Comment by Anne — June 18, 2011 #
Love your new stove Anna,I would love to have gas when we need to replace our stove. Oh well I’m conservative and go with the black knobs, even though I love red. I think you should order both!!
Comment by Shawn — June 18, 2011 #
I’m guessing the red!!
Comment by Lisa — June 18, 2011 #

Comment by Sarah N — June 18, 2011 #
I think your conservative side won out with the black. But, man, the red is cute! If you chose red- Good on ya!!!
Comment by Karin — June 18, 2011 #
Glad your kitchen if finally getting rebuilt. How fun to get new appliances as well. This is hard though…part of me wants to say you went with red. As it’s such a great pop of color. Another part wants to say you stay conservative with black…hmmm!
I think I’ll say red! :)
Comment by Dorian — June 18, 2011 #
Another guess for red, because why not? :D
Comment by Andrea_R — June 18, 2011 #
I’m hoping you took a walk on the wild side because I would love some Ruby fabric! (Besides, surely you could purchase black knobs if you got tired of the red!)
Comment by Lauren JH — June 18, 2011 #
red – def
Comment by barb — June 18, 2011 #
My purely random guess is you went with the black.

Comment by Peggy — June 18, 2011 #
I’m thinking….RED!
I love my gas range but had no choice on knob colors but I would have definitely been tempted by the red, but I’m kinda boring so probably would’ve ordered black. So I’m thinking you went just a little “wild” with the red! (And ordered spare ones in black, just in case?)
Comment by Janet — June 18, 2011 #
Red because red is best and it goes with everything. I would choose red every time, but my DH makes me read the reviews to make sure that the red is best and not just psychological. A nasty incident with a red cleaner. Least said soonest mended, I say.
Comment by Angel Jem — June 18, 2011 #
Red….just because you can!
Comment by Mary ann — June 18, 2011 #

I’m going with Red! Really, we’re about to order our own Wolf range and I’m getting red, think you might be too! Good luck gettin’ that gas line hooked up. I’d love to read about how you like the stove once you’re using it.
Comment by Liz — June 18, 2011 #
Well, being as I think you’re a wild and crazy kind of a girl, I’d have to with red. Or maybe I’m just thinking of what I’d like. ;)
P.S. I love my gas stove. I would never go back to electric unless I was forced!
Comment by Elaine/MuddlingThrough — June 18, 2011 #
well … i dunno … i’m old and the black knobs are easier to read … but you are NOT old … and the charm pack is RUBY … so prolly red
Comment by dianne — June 18, 2011 #
Black – because black is CLASSY!
Comment by Melissa — June 18, 2011 #
I see you with the red knobs but the black would look good also. Terri
Comment by Terri fisher — June 18, 2011 #
I think you probably preferred the red, but common sense won, and you went for the classic black!
Comment by frayedattheedge — June 18, 2011 #
I’m thinking red! I’d love to have a gas stove but there isn’t gas available in my community (or really much of the city I live in).
Comment by Jackie — June 18, 2011 #
Definately red knobs as we all know you have a little red devil lurking inside you xx
Comment by periwinkle — June 18, 2011 #

Ruby, Ruby…
Comment by ina — June 18, 2011 #
I, like all the other guessers, say you wanted the red (because you’re a “wild child”) but chose classic black to be refeened. Oh my , I sure do love me some Ruby! Hope I get picked. Thanks for the giveaway. Good Luck with the rest of your reno.
Comment by Luba — June 18, 2011 #
Given that CK and I on the verge of beginning our building saga we discussed this and have come to a joint decision of black.
Red would be gorgeous but then limits your palette if you want to change your colour scheme own the line (unless of course everything is red!
Comment by trash — June 18, 2011 #
LOL, I would have picked you know what, I think you went with black. Maybe you will shock me,,,,,,xoxo It will be beautiful no matter which one you picked.

Comment by Teresa — June 19, 2011 #

Comment by Mallory — June 20, 2011 #
So you’ve got gas? ;o) I say the black knobs! Red would signify danger to me! Then again, maybe your cooking is dangerous in your household! lol Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!
Comment by Carole Prevost-Meier — June 20, 2011 #
There is an unfair component to your question- we, the readers, are not privy to your colour scheme. I would say that you got red because you are giving away Ruby fabric- the associations in the mind (red knobs ruby fabric). Enjoy the gas. We put gas in our kitchen reno last summer and had several complications with the install!! I guess it is to be expected. Well the up side is that gas is great. I can make fried eggs for the kids in no time flat. Enjoy.
Comment by Dara — June 20, 2011 #

Oh momma… that would be tough. I would want to go red, but worry about resale-ability. {What might potential buyers in the future think? Dumb right?} Being practical I would go black… afterall it looks so sleak next to the stainless.
Comment by Anne — June 21, 2011 #
I’m thinking Ruby might be a hint…so my guess is red knobs. How fun!
Comment by Annette — June 21, 2011 #
