Photo Scavenger Hunt: June
June 30, 2011 on 9:43 pm | In Photo Challenge | 28 CommentsDon’t fall over — I’m actually on time for this month’s photo scavenger hunt hosted by Kathy. So…here we go….
A Childhood Memory: One day when MyDadLovesMeBestSister and I were little girls, we got in trouble. (I know. Hard to believe. It only happened once. Well, for me, anyway.) BigDaddy got mad at us (he never got mad) so he told us that in 30 minutes he was going to give us a spanking. BigDaddy was a very smart man. He knew that 30 minutes of suffering would hurt a LOT more than a measely spanking. But, we were smarter than BigDaddy. We went to the pan cupboard and we each got a pan and stuffed it in the back of our pants. ‘Cause, you know, BigDaddy would never notice a big pan handle sticking out of our pants. I’m pretty sure we still got spanked, but I hope BigDaddy at least laughed.
A Farm Animal: Ok, so I cut his head off. This is a barn in Gettysburg. I was too busy looking at that original cannonball hole in the wall of the barn to pay attention to the location of the horses’s head.
Wheel Trim: Remember? From when we were kids?
An Elephant: My childhood ring holder.
Architectural Detail: Corbels waiting for a hat.
Cheese: Shredded. And your last view of the fugly green tile which will be kicked to the curb … tomorrow!
Cutlery:
Night: Cars leaving the neighborhood.
Something that Starts with a Z: Kathy and I were thinking the same thing. (Unlike the brilliant Jane. What self-respecting sewing blog wouldn’t turn to Zipper first?)
Something with Your Town’s Name on It: Yellow pages (or the zoo sign — I love it, every month, there are always pictures that will fit more than one category.)
The View from Your Door: Straight out the front door.
Branches: {Sigh} The view skyward, under more trees ravaged by that nasty ash borer. We have 5 more and they’ll all have to be cut down. If you’re in the Eastern US and you haven’t seen the ash borer yet, brace yourselves. ;-(
That’s it for June — July’s list looks like lots of fun and anyone can join in!
XOXO,
Anna

Wow! I love your photos this month, they are fantastic. Duh I didn’t even think of using the yellow pages with the name of my town on it :o> Love the cannonball hole, but my favourite is the architectural detail. I’ve been too rushed to take any good photos lately, I need to slow down and take more time :o) toni xxx

I love the pan story. Your house must have been a lot of fun while you were growing up.

Oh, no! I didn’t know there WAS an ash borer. But we’ve had pine borers and lost three trees to them. Little buggers!

Another fun scavenger hunt, Anna! Love the spanking story and that elephant is adorable. Every month I say I’m going to join in … maybe July will be the month. (I think I said that last month, too.)

What great pictures Anna…brought back many memories…my mom had those same pans…still does…gosh, they’re as old as I am almost…I remember doing the dishes and having to clean the copper bottoms with Twinkle…I always tried to cheat, but mom always knew when I didn’t do them…LOL! And the cards in the bike spokes…first day of summer vacation every year…all my friends riding through the neighborhood making lots of noise…letting everyone know it was SUMMER! Thank you!

Love the story about the spanking and the pans:) I keep saying I’ll do the photo scavenger hunt but so far I haven’t managed it. Fun seeing everyone else’s photos though.

OMG! Reading this tired and thought the title “Farm Animal-I cut his head off…” was a description of what Big Daddy spanked you for!!! Phew….

Oh those poor trees , those nasty little borers :-(..

At our old house that we moved from 5 yrs ago we had 4 elm trees – we planted many white pines and spruce trees for privacy but I couldn’t bear to tell the new owner what kind of trees they were – I know that was cowardly of me.
I am recuperated from my trip to Hawaii to visit my two sisters there (without my hubby) :( – the doc said he couldn’t go because of all the radiation and the sun – he didn’t have the energy to go anyway, but my other sister + hubby from Seattle came and took care of him for a week. It was wonderful to watch my two grandchildren 17 and 12 on their (hopefully) first trip to paradise. They snorkeled, surfed, boogy boarded and got to know the rest of their family. We wanted to give them the travel bug as another incentive to go to college so they can wander the world. I came home to a scalped husband as his daughter told him he looked like an escaped lepper and shaved it off the next am. He looks fine, it will grow back and I’m missed him so.
The pan in the pants thing cracks me up – I’m having trouble fitting anything else in my pants right now except my okole (butt). I did learn one thing in hawaii.
As always your posts are always the best and I miss your smiling face sweet Anna. Rob
Remind me to tell you about the fiber fest next time we talk….

That is funny about the pans in your pants. Haaaaaaaa
Loved your post. That was fun.

I love the story of you and your sis protecting your hineys from the spank. Reminds me of my kids. One time the youngest put a bubble tape container (hard plastic) in his pants before he got my spank. What an unusual “crack” that spank had.
The canon hole in the barn was cool!

Love the spanking story too. I have a similar memory. I can’t even remember what I had done, but I remember how endless that waiting was.
I also really enjoyed your post about stone houses. We just went through Utah several days ago on our way home from vacation. I love how tidy and clean so many of the little towns are.

Wonderful photos! I loved every one of them! We have pine beetles killing trees in the Colorado mountains. Sad. Those Revere Ware pans are pretty! My mom still has hers and I still have mine! They are GREAT!
