Twin 1 and Twin 2

August 11, 2011 on 9:56 pm | In Cupcakes | 50 Comments

A few months ago, my little friend at work announced that she is expecting twins in October. We’re all very excited for her and, of course, I spent lots of time dreaming of a fun baby shower with one of those beautiful dessert tables that you see all over the internet. I was smacked back into reality when I realized 1) my house would be torn up all summer, and 2) if you want work people to attend any sort of “shower” you need to plan it over a lunch hour.

Even though it would be a quick event (we decided to go to Pizza Hut so that guests could choose the salad/pizza buffet and we wouldn’t have to wait on orders for a group), I decided that we should be able to have a little fun with it. The internet came to my rescue when I saw several references that converted Dr. Suess’s Thing 1 and Thing 2 to Twin 1 and Twin 2. If you’ve been reading along here, you know how crazy I am about The Things.  So, we started with an invitation.

Baby Invitation

Then, we moved on to cupcakes, made in the same style as the rehearsal dinner cupcakes.  Twin 1 and Twin 2 cupcakes were definitely not my finest cupcake hour, but the ladies seemed ok with them.

Baby Shower

Luckily, Pizza Hut let me decorate a little bit. I covered the tables with white plastic and “created” a table runner by folding my Twin 1 and Twin 2 fabric in on the sides. A few balloon centerpieces, a few sprinkles and the cupcakes and we had a simple, quick table.

Baby Shower

There was an awkward moment when they asked me where I got the “twin” fabric. Ummm…I just had it? ‘Cause, you know, everyone has a bunch of Dr. Suess fabric just lying around, don’t they?  I’m sure glad I didn’t have to show them my stash. It’s better if your non-quilting coworkers don’t know the depths of your illness.

Baby Shower

Anyway, everything went well and we all had a good time. And when we returned to the office, we offered the real twins a cupcake. They had to share.

Baby Shower

Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

So true. What we call a hobby can look a lot like obsession to others! Anyway, your shower looks like a blast – great idea.

  4. Anna:

Great idea for a lunch time shower. I realized while reading your blog, we live in the same city. I live out SW by the Coventry Pizza Hut!

I also agree, your non-quilting co-workers don’t need to know the depths of your illness!!

  5. Love the new header! What a fun baby-shower!

Not only non-quilting co-workers don’t need to know about the depths of our illness, but all non-quilting people think we are kind of crazy and obsessed!

  10. Oh, Anna, you ROCK! What a great shower you threw together. And I see absolutely nothing wrong with having a fabric stash. It’s a necessity, isn’t it? Huh? I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere.

    The cupcakes look great, too!

  20. Super fun. But I gotta tell ya, I still hyperventilate when I think about that book “Cat in the Hat”. The mess & destruction just stresses me out, man!!! (I have issues.) ;)

  24. Just had to stop by and send you cyber hugs and kisses galore!!! I’ve just made the vanilla cupcakes from your last post and I think my DH is going to ask me to marry him!! (again! LOL) They were perfect and that is saying something as we are a no egg household (two of us are allergic) and it is always a bit iffy making new recipes using my egg replacement that I get from the health food shop…but these cupcakes turned out light and fluffy just like one with eggs and the crumb was perfect and I’m overjoyed that once again the cupcake in all its glory is back in my life!

    Thank you thank you!!!

(P.S….sorry for the ramble…must be the sugar high!!) :o)

  28. I LOVE THIS IDEA. The table is absolutely adorable. What more could you possibly need? A
lunch time shower is a great idea especially for a group of working women. There is a reason for that fabric. It’s practical to plan for a rainy day (or a shower). You never know when you might need just such a piece of fabric. And I love the cupcakes too.

  30. Oh Anna…you did a great job on the shower. And as far as the fabric stash goes….most people are on a “need to know.” Most often, they DON’T (need to know, that is ;)

    Have a great weekend.

  45. Super cute! My Thing 1 and Thing 2 are now 14 years old and was so excited when the Dr.Seuss line came out recently. For Halloween when they were 2 I machine embroidered Thing 1 and Thing 2 on white felt circles then heat bonded them onto red sweatshirts…it was so cute! Love your decorations, great job!
