Well, how’s the weekend going? It’s slow and lovely here. I was off of work yesterday and it Rained. All. Day. It was a beautiful, steady downpour — just perfect for quilting or knitting. I spent the day holed up in the dungeon sewing and came up for air long enough to take a few pictures of the raindrops on our pretty Rose of Sharon.
It seems to be slow out there in blogland too. I’m sad to see more blogs being lost to twitter and facebook, which are just too busy for me. I’m much happier with the slower pace of blogs. Oh well, it’s good to have so many choices, right?
Since my sewing wasn’t productive enough to have any show and tell, it’s time for a recipe. My little recipe section provides me with a repository of recipes I don’t want to lose. I have a stack of recipe clippings that need to be cleaned out (which pales by comparison to MeMum’s I might add), and it’s much easier to find them if they’re on the internet. More than once, I’ve been in the kitchen and pulled up a recipe on my blackberry — very convenient! So — here’s a recipe for Corn and Blueberry Salsa. MyDadLovesMeBestSister brought it to our last family get-together and we all loved it.
Corn and Blueberry Salsa
1 1/2 c. cooked and cooled fresh or frozen yellow corn kernels
1/3 cup chopped red sweet pepper
1/4 cup snipped fresh chives or thinly sliced green onions
3 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh basil
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
Combine corn, sweet pepper, chives, basil, maple, syrup, lemon juice and salt. Add blueberries and toss gently to combine.
Easy Peasy. We enjoyed this salsa over grilled salmon (apologies to you non-fish lovers), but I’m sure there are many other ways you might like it. Happy Weekend!
XOXO,
Anna
no facebook or twitter for me. I love salmon and your recipe looks delicious!
The Rose of Sharon is beautiful and what a wonderful touch with the raindrops on the petals. Very Pretty.
Thanks for the the recipe…looks really interesting.. will have to try it out!! :o)
The recipe looks great! Since I’m really the only fish eater in my house, it will be a lovely lunchtime treat.
I logged into Twitter, didn’t understand a word of it and never went back! So I’m afraid you’re stuck with me here in blogland!
Lucy x
I love it when you post recipes. I don’t understand twitter so you’re stuck with me in blogland too!
I’m staying right here in Blogland…that recipe sounds yummy! We love salmon!
Looks yummy. Will have to try it.
I know what you mean, I have no desire to twit or facebook. My dtr and niece are always talking back and forth on it and it drives me nuts. I just don’t get why you would want to update people on your every move. I like blogging :) That corn salsa looks yummy, I would never of thought to put blueberries in. I love love fish so I will have to give it a try, thanks for the recipe.
Don’t worry, I have been resisting twitter and facebook and have vowed not to be taken in by all its charms. Your recipe is very timely. I was looking for a great way to use up leftover fresh corn, voila… thimbleanna to the rescue! Thanks!
Enjoyed your blog today. The rain was nice to read about, because here in Southern California it’s w-a-y too hot!
We love fish…I’ll be using your yummy sounding recipe soon!
OOh, that salmon with the salsa on top just looks delish1!! I’ve lost a few fav blogging friends to facebook/twitter also…..I dunno, facebook just doesn’t seem the same to me as blogging. I can see where it could be easier for people though. Frankly, I don’t want all the people that have “found” me on FB reading my blog, LOL! I’ve had internet silence due to vacation/internet issues and am just starting to catch up!
Oh, how I envy you your summer rains. When I lived in Michigan I used to just love them. Here in Caliornia we don’t get them in the part of the state I live in. I love sitting on my bed reading and while it rains outside. Aaaahhhh!
i wish it were raining here, over 100 again today.
:melts
your salsa and salmon look wonderful.
it doesn’t hurt that i’m starvin’ like a hostage, but even if i weren’t, they would STILL look appetizing.
off to the carwash, the bank and some LUNCH!
:waves madly
Delish, thank you for sharing. Clarice
I have to admit Facebook does have a strong pull for me but just because I’m addicted to my little farm – makes up for the garden I don’t have you see. At the minute though I’d give anything for some peace and quiet just to do some crafting, although looking back over the past few weeks since the school holidays began I’ve got quite a bit done so I shouldn’t complain…
That salad looks yummy.
I’m unlikely to be lost to Twitter, but I do seem to be lost in school holidays at the moment!
My girlfriend was just saying the same thing about losing blogs to facebook, but I suppose I am not reading the *right* blogs, since I haven’t seen that happen even once yet. ha!
Facebook is fun, but eh, it doesn’t replace my long loved blog, that’s for certain.
Now if I would just get off my old duff and blog, huh?
Give me a blog any day, Anna. I like the picture of the blueberry/corn salsa with the salmon…I think we’re having salmon for dinner. I’ve been pining away for my dungeon sewing room, but can’t bring myself to leave the absolutely beautiful day we’re having here…cool, breezy and sunny. Maybe later I’ll make my way down there. Hope your weekend is grand.
Amy
What a beautiful photos…I love rain! At first the thought of corn and blueberries seemed strange, but I thought of how much I love salsa made with the mangos! I’ll have to give it a try.
Take care my friend,
Cherri
Ok – I admit I’m on Facebook and Twitter. I rarely post on Twitter except in reply to my daughter’s “twits”! And FB was convenient when we were on vacation and I could let family know where we were and what we were seeing. But I admit that sometimes all the “games” that my FB “friends” are playing become annoying and I’d rather read about their real lives and thoughts. I’m sure they are having fun though and to each his or her own! We all like to try new things though and that’s why we started blogging. I need some motivation to get a blog post together again though – please send some my way!
I wish you could send us some of your rain…it’s been in the 100’s and dry as a bone. My dad’s bday is Monday and I think we’re making Salmon so I think I might try that, if I can find blueberries. Oh I never thought of using my blackberry in the kitchen…great idea :)
I thought things had seemed quiet too…I almost thought maybe all the feeds weren’t coming in, but I think you are right…maybe there is more twitting going on. I for one will stick to blogging…it’s much more my style and pace.
Hello there!
The salsa looks great and I will certainly try it out with some of our veggie food!
No sign of twitter or facebook here – I’m all for blogging! I love the storytelling aspect of blogging and of course, the pictures!
Have a super Sunday!
Thanks for the recipe of the salsa. I never would have thought to combine those ingredients!
I’m for blogging. Don’t like the twitter and facebook stuff. I feel sorry for the blogging world changing. I love to read stories and look at pictures.
Happy weekend Anna!!
Hi Anna, it’s been raining a lot here too ~~~~ I know what that means *more time to sew*. Your recipe looks delicious, yum. Oh and healthy too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
That salsa looks so yummy and colorful. Never heard of blueberries in it. Chilly this morning.
Sounds delicious, I think I should try this.
yum! that salsa looks wonderful – I will have to give it a go. What do you think would work instead of maple syrup? Honey? Golden syrup? You probably can get maple syrup in the UK but I’m not sure where….
Don’t you love rainy cool lazy days? I know I sure do. As you know I’ve been trying to eat more fish and your recipe sounds so good. I’ll have to try it this week.
I’m on FB too but more for friend connecting and not blogging. I like the blogs too. I love reading what everybody is up to. Highlight of my day sometimes. Wow. I lead a sad life, LOL!
Wow, that looks like an amazing salsa recipe. Since it is taber corn season around here, I might have to make that. Hope you are having a good summer. I have so enjoyed just lazying around in the sun. I have knit one sock, otherwise just enjoyed life and played with my camera.
That salsa looks divine! I love the unusual combinations that American foods often have. When I lived in Christchurch New Zealand, there was a wonderful recipe book printed by the American wives of the American men who went to the Ice. Chch was the Base & was the leaving point for men who wintered over in Antactica. I still have my book! I think I will do a post about it! Thanks Anna for the inspiration!
ANTARCTIC! sorry .
The rain was a very welcome visitor to Brissy today too!! We went from 32 deg yesterday to about 22 today – much cooler (brrr). Spring tomorrow … yay!!!
Hugs,
Joy ;o)
That is a beautiful photograph of the rose.
We had some very welcome rain over the weekend too.
Thank you for the salsa recipe. I will be trying it out on my family.
Very simple recipe yet the end result is so good looking. I like anything that has a mix of fruits and vegetables.
I can’t imagine being on facebook or twitter and some people manage to be on both of those and a blog. Ick. Kill me. Salsa looks goood.
whatan interesting mixure of flavours… I must try that!! Thank you.
Hubby and I were just saying the other day that we haven’t had any salmon lately…For us, someone has to go fishing to get that salmon and that someone hasn’t gone in about 2 years. That dish looks awesome!!!
I agree that some are going to facebook and that includes my family…ugh!
Nope not me, no twitter or FB – I can hardly keep up with bloggy land and emails to add what I would view as another thing tying me to the computer. So as others have said, your stuck with me, lol. Hmmmm not sure about the salsa and I’m really sure about the salmon and not in a good way, LOL. But as usual your pictures are wonderful, even if it is fish.
Hey tomorrow is Sept 1st – YIKES where did summer go.
Hugs – Mrs. Farmhouse :)
That’s a most unusual recipe there. Who would have ever thought to put those ingredients together.
I am not much into twitter but I do have my blog posts go there automatically… and FB is mostly just for my friends and family (to have a place to report on things I do not report on my blog). But I dearly love blogs and reading though everyone’s goings on. So I think I’ll stick with them.
HUGS.
The rain must have been so nice. I can’t wait for it to arrive here in Northern California. It’s usually dry all summer until late September.
That salsa is really different. I’ve never thought of combining blueberries and corn. Sounds good and I will have to try it. Thanks! I love salmon.
I’m not a turncoat, I’ve just used Twitter last week because I couldn’t blog as fast as I could tweet. Hopefully I will be able to pick up blogging again like old times:) Love all those colors in that salsa. I’m sure it tastes as good as it looks.
I love blueberries and salsa so I can imagine combining the two would be delish!
I don’t Twitter because I don’t understand the whole concept. To me it sounds like a football game-like play-by-play of your day. Why would you want to do that? “I’m scrubbing the toilet.” “I’m having my teeth cleaned.” “I just pulled a science project out from the back of the refrigerator.” Trust me, there is nothing that occurs in my daily life that needs to be shared immediately. Ever. I’ll always be a blog writing-and-reading girl. :)
Plenty of rain here too, it’s definitely knitting weather now. That corn and bluberry salsa looks and sounds lovely, might give that a try next week.
I’m avoiding the other forums too. I have a hard enough time keeping up with a blog! LOL! I much prefer the slower pace, too. Blogs feel much more like a place in time to me, as well. I like that aspect of having a blog. A getaway sort of place, I suppose.
I wish it would rain here. We’ve only had a very little this summer, and it shows.
Have a great weekend Anna.
