For many years, I had been dreaming of a trip to Shetland. As a knitter, I would see posts from other people who had been to Shetland for knitting adventures, and then, there would be others who just went on personal trips to see the islands. For awhile, it seemed that everywhere I turned, I was seeing photos shot in Shetland pop up and they were always so beautiful.
In 2015, I became aware of The Grand Shetland Adventure trips that Gudrun and Mary Jane organize and I watched as they opened their 2016 trips for sign ups and within an hour or two the trip was full. The same thing happened in 2016 for their 2017 trips. I decided I really wanted to go, so I hatched a plan to get there. I hounded brought up the idea of a Shetland trip to my friend Bonnie several times, and finally she agreed to go with me. I was ready and waiting at my computer at the moment signups opened for the 2018 trips and I sent an e-mail in hopes that we would get in. Later that day, we received our confirmation e-mail and we made it — I was beyond excited!
Waiting the 11 months until our trip seemed excruciating, but at long last the time for our trip arrived. Shetland certainly did not disappoint, and the trip exceeded my expectations. Even though this was a “knitting” tour, I was really there for the “travel” aspect and all of the fiber parts of the trip were a wonderful bonus. I feel like I didn’t get nearly enough pictures of the times we were actually knitting though, which is sad because it was a lot of fun. (However, I did get lots of pictures of sheep!)
I divided the trip into days with imaginative titles like Day 1, Day 2, etc. (Sorry, clever captions just weren’t coming to me.)
