I’ve been trying so hard to catch up on all your blogs this week, but I suffered a setback with the season premiere of LOST last night. I’m sorry, but, as much as I love you, I love Sawyer more. I was thrilled to see that the writers finally came to their senses and provided some excellent Shirtless Sawyer Scenes. I might have drooled on the remote control, just a little. Ok, a Lot. If you’re fairly new to this blog, you’ve missed my affair with Sawyer. It all started when I saw this. (WARNING: Fabric Fondling. Clicking on that picture will make you fall for Sawyer, but you should know that he’s MINE. I declared it long ago. Even Hot Monica acquiesced way back when, for fear of an Ugly Sawyer Throw Down.)
Ahem. Just a moment while I straighten my skirt and re-gain my composure.
There. As I mentioned in my last post, I had a belated birthday with SweetiePie last Sunday. She requested a new wallet for her birthday and since my wallet had a few holes in it, I decided to make a new one for me too.
SweetiePie picked her fabrics and I thought hers turned out pretty cute. She loves monograms too, so I put her monogram on the front and an embroidered star on the back — ’cause (cornball alert!) she’s a star for taking such good care of TheFirstChild while he’s in school. I put buttons on the back of my wallet.
The pattern is called “A Safe Place” by My Favorite things. I love all the little pockets on the inside, but I made one big change. The pattern calls for a velcro strap across the top and that would never work for me, as I’m the kind of person who crams receipts and papers into my wallet. So, I put zippers around the edges. It’s a huge pain to get that zipper sewn in there (because the wallet won’t lie flat on one end), but it’s very worth it to me.
Below is the inside of SweetiePie’s wallet. I like how her fabrics coordinated.
My old wallet lasted about three years. The edges (where the zipper ribbon is below) along the binding fray and wear out. I suppose I could have tried to replace the binding on the old wallet, but it was faded and besides, I was ready for a fabric change. I love my posh fabric. I’m thinking maybe I should hoard some of it.
I like having a bigger wallet for everyday, but for special occasions, I like a smaller wallet, so I grab the one that Lucy made me. Which also works, ’cause I don’t want to wear Lucy’s wallet out.
Now I have three years to rest until he next wallet. Yipee! Have a good weekend everyone!
XOXO,
Anna
Those wallets are fantastic! I love both. I have the Posh fabric line and haven’t been able to bring myself to cut into it yet. Yet, being the key word. I agree, having a zipper is key on a wallet. By the way, I don’t watch Lost, but the picture you have of Sawyer fondling fabric is just too funny! I wouldn’t mind having someone like that fondling my fabric…LOL!
I now declare you Anna the Zipper Queen….you are fearless. These wallets are adorable. TOTALLY worth all of that work. And hello, you are talking to a number of fabric-aholics here, there is no reason to defend simply craving a new look. :) I like SweetiePie’s choices…I would have picked yours if shopping for myself, but surprisingly am quite taken with the final turn out of hers. I love your buttons though…very cute.
I am also a Lost fanatic (so is hubby), but I am more of a Jack (clean and sober) girl. You’ll have to fight my neighbor for Sawyer — she will not back down!
Sawyer did have the best line…
Sawyer: “Welcome back, Dr. Wizard.”
Random freighter guy: “I think it’s Mr. Wizard.”
Sawyer: “Shut up!”
I love the wallets!!!!! I am afraid of zippers!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you are still suffering from sleep deprivation! Or you’ve been hitting the sauce? You sound all woozy and funny….I laughed all the way through this …..! Is the ManOfThe House aware of your little liason? Come to think of it, you’d have to be cold stone sober to sew that zipper on…cute wallets. I’m impressed with that plural! One would have been an occasion for singing and dancing for me….per year, that is.
wow, those look awesome! you are so talented – all your sewing goodies look to die for! your fam is so lucky! :)
Adorable wallets! I thought that fabric was Charisma, which is very similar to Posh, and which I’m currently having a love fest with (found some at Hancocks and Fat Quarter shop for half off!). Did you see the quilt Nicole at Sister’s Choice Quilts made with Charisma? My goodness, such loveliness. And have you seen Chez Moi’s new line, Swanky? It was what made me swoon the most in the new Hancocks fabric p*orn magazine.
I love that posh fabric too! zipper is a huge change but worth it – velcro is so 5th grade! :)
Wow – those wallets are gorgeous! Beautiful beautiful beautiful!
Anna, I am convinced you can sew anything! Wonderful job on both wallets.
I’m lucky enough to have one of Lucy’s wallets too. I love your zipped wallet though – beautiful and practical!
OMG your wallet is just awesome. I love it. That would be the perfect wallet for me…I need them big…but the only way I’ll get one is if Vera Bradley makes a big one…you know how petrified I am of zippers.
Oh wow, those little pockety wallets are awesome! I like the fabrics, too. You sound like me. My poor wallet is so stuffed with receipts, coupons, etc. No money, tho, since I have kids and a husband. :) tee hee Great job!
I love your wallets…so colorful. I keep thinking that I should make one instead of buying a Vera Bradley one.
Hurley’s mother made me nearly wet my pants: “Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?” LOLOL
Those wallets are adorable!! I love that Posh fabric. But let me just tell you that you are my hero with that zipper. The little zipper bag I made for my mom for Christmas was the first zipper I have done in probably over 30 years. It might even be the first since my junior high home-ec skirt. Oh, my gracious do they intimidate me. You rock!!!
nice job on the wallets!!! they look very intense to make.
Oh, your wallet project is adorable! And I like the added detail of the zipper despite the challenge of doing it.
I’ve never seen “Lost” but have heard lots of good things about it. Other than a few special movies, I hardly ever watch TV. I guess I need to do something about that as I’m missing things apparently. Now I’m curious as to whom Sawyer might be.
Wow! Anna! Those are incredibly cute! And, there’s a zipper change pocket inside? Over achiever alert!
For starts–love, love, love the wallets.
Now on to Sawyer. You and my daughter and this love affair with Lost. I watched the first two years but it started going in every direction but the one I could follow. This year I’m intrigued so I might come back. I love J.J. Abrams. I can hardly wait for Star Trek.
Wowie, they’re so cute. And the straighten my skirt comment made me laugh ;-) x
If they ever get rid of Sawyer, I’m not watching anymore!
S.W.A.K.
P.S. – Oh yeah, the wallets are great!
How much for the pink and leopard wallet? Seriously?
Holy Cow. Your wallets are perfect. Seriously beautiful, perfect, wonderful. Jawdropping. What lovely creations. She’s gonna love it!
Love your new wallets. You do such great work. Honestly you do. You know………I saw Sawyer in person while vacationing in Hawaii a few years ago. Oh yes I did. And I even have my photo with Jack!!! Matthew Fox to you. So….do you want my autograph?? DO ya??
Sweetie you can handle a sewing machine and zipper like a surgeon handles a scalpel. Buttons are always A+ with me too. How much sleep do you get at night? Or are you a super-time-organized person? You and your friends share the greatest presents…
Always, Robin
I have a zipper phobia also – those wallets are awesome, almost makes me want to try zippers!
Hmmmm I’ve never watched Lost – are you gasping, LOL. I’m thinking I might be missing out on something here, LOL. Now those are some dang cute wallets Ms. Anna – I bet sweetie pie LOVED LOVED LOVED hers. I love the fabric you picked out for both of them – either one would look quite nice in my purse, LOL. As always you rock Anna :)
Hugs – Karen
Those wallets are stunning! I love the way you have put a zip round the outside especially as I know I’d never be patient and careful enough to do that! Lucy x
Why can’t you live near me so you can make me one, too?? LOL I LOVE them!!!
Cute wallets Anna! Of course everything you do is cute… even a ‘Pub Crawl’?? You wild, young thing!!
We’ve seen every episode of LOST and I’ve been panting over ‘the terrorist’ for all these seasons. Especially when he puts his hair in a pony tail… aaaaaaahhh! He was in a fairly recent movie with Jodie Foster… The Brave One. He played her about-to-be-husband.
You need Photoshop (Elements 7) lessons from JessicaSprague.com. She is such an excellent teacher. Let me know if you want more info.
Joni
Hahaha, I remember that Sawyer picture!! Cracks me up!!
The wallets are beyond adorable – I’ll bet SweetiePie just loves hers!
Please, how about some info on the round pincushions that you made for your friends?
Sawyer, Sawyer, Sawyer. I know… you won him fare and square… but I can’t help but pretending he’s still mine.
Ok. Lost. FINALLY. I’ve waited for this day for so long. But why oh why did Sawyer have to keep looking for a shirt to wear? And who was the goober who gave it to him? Sigh. Oh well. At least he kept it unbuttoned.
Hey we just switched our dish to HD. OMG… Sawyer in high-def… OMG, OMG, OMG.
Darling wallet!
PS… Hurley called. He wants you back, and regrets breaking up with you. He says this whole Sawyer nonsense is just a ruse to make him jealous.
PS2… notice how Sharon said that when she saw Sawyer… she left out the part that she saw him with me? I’m sure Sharon will deny it… she’s so sweet – she won’t want your feelings to get hurt.
Well, I have never seen Lost nor do I know who Sawyer is, however, I am drooling over the wallets. They are so cute. I can’t believe you made them. And here I am just trying to make stuffed animals look like the breed they are supposed to be!!
Oooh, how fab. I have one of Lucy’s wallets too, but I have used and used it and nearly killed it. When Lucy saw it she declared it was ‘skanky’ – I prefer to call it ‘well loved’.
So I might be making a wallet soon too!
I love those wallets!
And the Posh fabric is so yummy!
Those wallets are wonderful! I want to make one…
How adorable. I love all the colors. Anna you are just too talented.
Wow. Those wallets are amazing! I bow to your impressive zipper installation skills–I’d be too askared to even try something like that. I just keep staring at that zipper pic!
Anna,
Hey – How do you feel about making me a new wallet? I’ll send you some material if you like. Just let me know. I’d love a floral wallet – Loved to look for the material. Just let me know.
Erin
Sawyer = YUMMY! But I will admire him from a-far. Gotta love Lost. Soooooo happy that it’s back again! At least for a few months. WOOHOO!
Man, you are a remarkable seamstress. I would have wonked that wallet up plenty!! Just how hot s this Sawyer dude. Should I tune in to find out?
Those are wonderful!! Oh to be able to alter a pattern to put a zipper in it…I’m in awe :)
Anna, these wallets are the spankiest ever! It’s like the dream big sister of the Zippy Wallet. I know that when my Zippy Wallets grow up they will be just this cool. LOL!
You go girl!
Cassie
Such pretty wallets, Anna! And yes, I agree with you on the zipper–I would need one, too. XO
LOVE the wallets. They look very detailed with the little pockets and a zipper too (it would take me forever to get one made).
Awesome!
Jody
The wallets are a-dor-a-ble!!!! You are just too talented!
I have never gotten into Lost – I shouldn’t admit it, I know – so Sawyer is ALL YOURS!!! I do love a man who likes to fondle fabric, though. He does have possiblities. LOL!
I love your wallets!! I’m not one to shy away from zippers but sewing a zipper all the way around a wallet looks a bit scary to me!!
xxx
This pattern is no longer avail on the site if you click on it, do you know where we can get it?
