A Good Surprise

It’s a slow week in the neighborhood. There’s been a little bit of sewing, not much crafting, and a bit of moving. SweetiePie’s parents have sold their home, so she needed to get her stuff out of their place and into an the apartment where she and TheFirstChild will live after they’re married. Can you imagine selling your house a month before your daughter is getting married? Oh, the chaos! I suppose you have to take a home sale when you can get it in this market, but I certainly do feel for them.

Anyway, we moved her stuff into the apartment last night. They’re lucky as they won’t really have to buy much furniture to start their new life. Actually, considering they’ll be moving again when school starts in the fall, they probably have too much stuff. In spite of that, it was a quick move-in job — the advantages to being young and just starting out!

So today, all tuckered out after a late night and boring day at work, I arrived home to find this awesome surprise:

Almonds

Have you ever seen so many almonds in one package? It’s hard for you to see the depth of them. OhMyGosh! One day, Miss Jean posted about her almond trees and I mentioned how much I LOVE almonds. They’re my favorite nut — and that’s saying a LOT ’cause I’m a nut fanatic. I don’t think there’s much of anything that can’t be made better with nuts LOL. Anyway, that sweet Miss Jean sent me my own almond farm in a box (to include a great booklet all about almonds that I forgot to put in the picture.) Look at all those incredible flavors — who knew? We have regular almonds (there will surely be some baking with these); organic almonds in roasted, garlic (really? that’s going to be interesting!), and cinnamon (ok, I confess, that bag already has a BIG hole in it LOL) flavors; yummy candy coated jordan almonds; and three I-can’t-wait-to-try flavors — Maui Onion and Garlic, Lime ‘n Chili, and Jalapeno Smokehouse.

I’ve never seen such a wide variety of flavors. I’m thinking an almond tasting is in order! Does anyone know the proper protocol? Do you swirl them under your nose, taking in the heavenly aroma? Or put them on your tongue and suck air over them? Oooh, yum….this is going to be FUN! And did you see that other sweet surprise in there?

Almonds

Oh Miss Jean! {Very Big Sigh} She’s just perfect! How did you know how much I love the August Moon figurines? I have several others, but this one has to be my favorite. Giggle Girl. I just love the sentiment — it fits me perfectly (my favorite shirt says Laughter is the Best Medicine.) I. Am. So. Touched. Miss Jean! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are so kind and thoughtful, I’m just bowled over. What a lucky girl am I! If you haven’t been to visit Miss Jean, you must. She has the sweetest blog AND a brand new adorable puppy!

Methinks this is a great start to my week. I wish all of you something wonderful to make you giggle this week too!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. You made me cry! I’m so glad you liked the surprise. I’m glad it came at just the rigt time. The little giggle girl just jumped into my hand and said, “I need to fly to Indiana, NOW!” I have never seen them before. I got myself one that says, “My mommy thinks I’m pretty!”

Enjoy the package and go nuts!

  2. Hey, I was just going to post that I have a witch that says, “My mom thinks I’m pretty.” It is one of my favorite Halloween decorations. Looks like Jean beat me to it. I had a nice little read on her blog. Thanks for linking to Jean. She seems very nice. Of course, my miss pollyanna, you only do nice so I should have known. Love You!

  3. Wow, what a great package. I love almonds – I bought some almond butter last week and it’s so good!
No, I can’t imagine selling a house a month before a wedding. The poor mother of the bride must feel totally overwhelmed!

  4. Who knew there were so many different kinds of almonds. What a nice gift and that little statue is adorable. Isn’t mail just the greatest.

Moving – yes it’s always easy the younger they are – the less stuff they own. My son looked at the 3 floors of our house now and said “I hope your hiring someone to help you move” and hubs said ya “2 guys and a truck” meaning the 2 kids. S#1 said “that’s what I was afraid of”, LOL.

    Hugs – Karen

  5. I cannot imagine the chaos trying to move near the time of a wedding. Bless their hearts!

Like you, I never realized there are so many versions of almonds in the world. What a wonderful package.

  6. All right – the almonds have me totally drooling here! I am nutz about nuts, too, and all those flavors have me totally tantalized. I have never seen or heard of the August Moon figures, but she is the cutest little girl – I must have one!
You’re a wonderful MIL-to-be to help SweetiePie move, so it was only fair that you should arrive home to such a wonderful treat! Thanks for the giggle and the drool – I’ll be going now…..

  7. What a sweet gift. I love nuts too. I think my favorite is between pecan and cashew but I do like an almond in so many ways.

And moving? Thats horrible without a wedding on top of life. My heart goes out to them.

  8. Lovely, lovely almonds. Though at first I thought you had them all ready to make wedding favours – in the UK sugared almonds are the traditional favour though most of the time these days I think many people find them a bit old fashioned. I love them though!

  9. A good start to the week indeed! As for protocol, well the correct procedure is to grab a handful of each and shove “em in (oops sorry that’s the almondoholic coming out in me) Enjoy

    Love the little girl too.
Wedding plans seem to be well in hand.

  12. I am the mother of the groom and planning to move from midwest to southwest after the wedding in October. But I don’t know, if I was the bride’s mum, well, I wouldn’t be blogging right now. lol!
Thanks for the link to Miss Jean–how wonderful a surprise.

  13. How exciting to have a wedding in the family. It must have been great coming home after a hard days work to those delicious almons – who knew they could came in so many flavours!

  14. Sweet Cottage Dreams

Oh that Miss Jean! She is such a sweeeeeeeet lady and I am blessed to have her as a friend, too. Infact she and Miss Maggie dear and her sweetie pie just left our house. She adores you and she really sent some wonderful assortments there. Love Miss Giggle!! LOL .. she is too cute!

I say put the almond in your mouth and just suck on it (ok, that sounded really bad) and get all the flavors and then bite into it. We are blessed here in our state to have such wonderful treats. The Jordan almonds are my favorites.

Blessings to you and good luck with that wedding!

    Becky
