Thimbleanna

A Virtual Visit

Dear Chookyblue,

I’m so excited about your virtual visit and I thought you might like to see what’s in store for you when you come to ThimbleannaLand.  First off, this will be your room — you’ve probably seen it here before.  There’s an extra bed if you’d like to bring someone along with you.

Virtual Tour

This is the view out of your bedroom window.  That little patch of snow melted today, but I’ve heard we might get more snow this week.  We’re still a good month away from getting leaves on those trees.  If you were to come in the summer, you wouldn’t be able to see through those naked trees.

Virtual Tour

I’ve put out a few patterns and books from your fellow Aussies so you’ll feel right at home.

Virtual Tour

After you get settled in, I’ll take you on a little tour of our town.  We’re known as a city of churches and visitors often comment on the large numbers of spires in our downtown.  (Sorry for the wonky angle, it was the only way to get all those spires in from my vantage point.)

Virtual Tour

We’re a pretty tame town, but there are a few fun things to see — like a pretty new minor league baseball field, a children’s zoo (complete with Australian Adventure LOL), a botanical garden (which I thought would be fun for you to visit to see the contrast between your flowers and ours) and our fun little local indie cinema.  They show all the cool pics, many of which were nominated for Oscars this year.

Virtual Tour

After we blitz our town, we’ll surely have to spend a day in Shipshewana.  They have quilt shops and you’ll be able to get a little local Amish flavor.

Virtual Tour

After we finish all that visiting and shopping, we’ll need a day to rest, maybe stitch a little and chat and watch a few old movies.  We can hang out here in the dungeon.  (It’s a little hard to tell, but there’s a rip in that sofa cushion that I’ll try to repair before you arrive.  One too many high school boys used that poor sofa as a ladder to sneak them in and out of those windows.  SadlyFortunately those days are over.)

Virtual Tour

And after all of that, it will be time for you to move on to your next blogger visit.  I’m thrilled that you’re going to let me travel with you for the European part of your adventure.

Virtual Tour

My bags are packed and waiting for you by the back door!

Safe Travels!
XOXO,
Anna

I wanna come visit too Anna!

  2. I so enjoyed Chookyblue’s virtual tour! What a cute town you live in. I visited Amish country in Illinois many years ago and was fascinated. Your guest room is very cute, and so is the dungeon.
    Have fun in virtual Europe!

  3. Ooh, ooh **hand waving madly in the air … just like Arnold Horshack***

  4. That guestroom looks sooo inviting, Anna. Can I come too?

Thanks for the tour around your town. It looks very wonderful.

  5. We could fill that room with a few Aussies. I can just imagine how loud and hilarious it would be though with Jodie and Donna in the same room!

  6. I would like to come and stay for a while.
I see you have a sooft spot for teddy- bears.
    We have that in common.
My mum worked for many years in a toy- shop.
I was a child then, and it was wonderful to see all this beautiful things there.
I loved the bears the most.
And I have some Steifff-bears now, but my mum has much more.
Your home is beautiful. Thanks for the tour. Have a great week
    Janine

  7. After this post you may be swamped with visitors. I went by Shipshewana last year but didn’t have time to stop in. I really want to go back!

  8. That was fun! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a “virtual” visit day among the quilt blogging community? Your house is so charming and your property is beautiful. I am especially envious of your Math Curse poster!

  9. wow, imagine my surprise when your virtual tour took me on a tour of my OWN CITY. I did not know we lived in the same city!! omg. perhaps we could meet and chat some day?

  10. Anna – what are the pegs for on the bottom of the foot boards of your guest beds?? Just decorative, or were they once a necessity??

  11. I loved this virtual tour…the photo of the churches…and your town…didn’t realize you were so close to Amish country!

  12. I think I will come with Chooky to your house. The sky is blue and those beds are calling my name. Oh, and I love Amish visits. We have a small community of Amish tucked into the base of the Mission mountains here in Montana, too. Lovely people.

    Later,
    Cassie

  13. Love Shipshewana although I haven’t been there in years…it used to be a fun “girls” trip. Your home is so inviting and you are the perfect hostess. Virtual tours are the best!

  14. Oooooooooo I love your house and your town. What lovely places to visit. Wish I could stop by and visit! Thank you for the oh so lovely invitation.

  15. Did I miss something? Donna is coming to this continent? Sounds like a wonderful plan. You do have my curiosity as to where Chez Timbleanna is located! Lovely place you have! Looks cozy to me!

I also would like to say that your blog is always so nice. Love the pictures! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

  16. What a wonderful visit to your sweet town….there’s no place like Thimbleland, there’s no place like Thimbleland — I’m clicking my ruby slippers!!!

  17. omg it looks so good……..I can’t wait to get there………goodness I have confused a few people with my virtual blog tour…………and so many what to come with me now……….but of course you were first on the list………..lol……..absolutely love the post…..and I love it that your bags are already packed in preparation……….lol……..so much fun

  18. Church spires are what I miss about modern American towns. When driving in Germany and Belgium the first indication you had of approaching a village or town was the church spires, visible before anything else….I loved it!

  19. Well I’m inviting myself up sometime this summer…maybe on a wednesday for the Shippy auction (there’s a beautiful clerk at the auction by the name of John, oh my younger years). But I would drool all over the quilt shops and I definetly would have to play at your house with all the sewn quilts and what-nots! I love the beautiful bag you made…I’ve been looking for something to carry to Napa in April when we stay at Maison Fluerie in the wine country – me and the 3 sisters. Look it up – it’s quite ~~french~~. Such a wonderful virtual tour – I need to look at more of them – thanks girls.
    Always, robin

  20. I’m envying your guests the opportunity to stay in such a lovely room with such awesome quilts (I’m assuming you’ve made them?). It seems you live in a cool part of the world.

  21. geeze louise.
    had me going there.
i saw the word *virtual* but i thought perhaps it was a pre-tour of what she would get when she arrived.
thought chooky was going to your house.
was a bit concerned if i would be a suspect if she suddenly disappeared.
    :sighs with relief

  22. i skipped right over the “virtual” part of the visit and got all excited for you and chookyblue meeting in real life … don’t i feel sheepish – baaaa

  23. Hey Anna! Thanks for a little look at your corner of the world – I’m sure Chookyblue will enjoy her stay with you! :0) I’ve also posted a virtual tour itinerary – she’s going to be pretty busy visiting us all – she’ll need a holiday to recover from her holiday! Tee! Hee! Hee! Thanks for sharing – Bear Hugs! KRIS

  24. I loved seeing where you live! How wonderful with all the different places to sit and craft too. I have always been intrigued by the Amish and how they live. Perhaps one day you can come and visit here too!

  25. I just crashed Chookyblue’s visit. Shhhh. Don’t tell her I’m hiding under one of the beds.

AWESOME post, SWONE! Love getting a tour, loved the visit. Even though I pulled a Salahi!

  26. Michele in Huntsville

Hey there – finally a few minutes to catch up on my favorite blogs! I got a new job, and have absolutely NO time to surf these days. Heavy sigh. Hey – the bedroom in the photo above – is this in your house? I LOVE it – it’s exactly what I want to put in my spare room – antique twin beds, with quilts – we even have some of the same Stieff bears! Too fun!

Love the peeps with thimble hats!
