Brace Yourself, Effie!

Or Batten Down the Hatches. Or something like that! It’s going to be brutally cold this week — I sure wish I didn’t have to go to work — I’d love to just hole-up this week and stay in front of the fire all day in my jammies. Our HIGH on Wednesday is forecast to be -9F (that’s -23 for you Celsius people) and very windy, which puts the windchills well below -40F (which just happens to be -40C). OUCH!

It’s been a busy winter here in ThimbleannaLand. We’re still working over at MeMum’s and the light is finally at the end of the tunnel. A few more months should do it — I’m looking forward to checking that BIG job off of our list. In the evenings I’ve been working on an old UFO sweater, and I’m hoping to wrap that one up in the next few weeks. I also recently finished a few more things for our little cherubs. I made them matching little pink dresses. It was a fun, quick project. The pattern is The Karina Dress from The Freckled Pear and the fabric is a cute little floral that I have in my etsy shop. I made sizes 6 months (which is currently drowning FinallyAnotherGirl) and a size 3 (which is almost just right for FinallyAGirl.) (Sorry for the terrible, dark pictures — it’s winter, you know.  ;-( )

I also made a fun little coordinating mustard colored sweater for FinallyAnotherGirl. (FinallyAGirl already has a cute mustard colored sweater, so I made her the sheepie sweater that I showed in the last post.) I loved knitting this sweater and will surely make this pattern again. It’s the Norwegian Fir Top Down Cardigan from OGE Knitwear Designs and I used Cascade 220 from my local yarn shop.  It has a little button at the neckline, which was added after I took this picture ;-D.

And here is the cardigan with the little dress.  They were made for each other — meaning, I actually planned it this way LOL.  I’d decided to make the little sweater, and then I went shopping in the shop and I loved the little pops of mustard in the floral print.  I like pink and gray and mustard together and I actually had several other fabric choices in that color combo, which was a little surprising.

It does seem like this blog has just turned into baby makes, but that’s the stage we’re at now. I love (LOVE) sewing and knitting for babies (in particular little girls) and, as you know, they won’t be little for long. Before we know it, they’ll be too old or sophisticated for Grammy’s makes, so I’m making hay while the sun shines (or something while the snow flies LOL.)

Have a great week — February is almost here! Stay warm out there (or cool if you’re down under!)
XOXO,
Anna

  1. love your sewing and knitting – the little ones will look so cute in these. Good luck on finishing out your mom’s place and hope she is doing well My daughter in WI says down to -60 wind chills for them the next day or two and maybe 8-12 inches of the white fluffy stuff. We here in Arkansas at least know it will never be that cold – one can hope anyhow but for it us it is 20 tonight and a 13 degree wind chill in the morning – 3 days of cold for us then back to 60 crazy weather!!

  2. Brrrr, that will be cold! We had a touch of Winter the last two weeks, but we’re back to degrees above zero! Love the dresses and sweater you made! Cleaning out your parent’s house is a touch job. This time last year we started cleaning and clearing my Mum’s house, while she was in an elderly home. I was glad we finished it before she passed away. I think it would even have been harder then.
    Enjoy Winter Anna!!

  3. You make the most beautiful things Anna! Those little dresses are just perfect…and the adorable little cardigan goes so beautifully. Good luck with the house clearing…such a long hard job to get through. And keep cosy! XxX

  4. The dresses are so cute as is the little cardy. Those little cherubs will look adorable. Wow, you are in for a cold spell. I wish we had a bit colder weather too and finally some snow. There’s snow in the mountains, but not in the lowlands where we live. Try to keep warm.

  5. I have a feeling that those girls will be making with you before long! And seeing baby clothes is such a bright spot in a dark winter. These are lovely. Stay warm, and I hope your car starts without a problem!

  6. Perfect! I’m making my GD a couple of swing dresses now, my first adventures in sewing with knits. One is a Mickey Mouse fabric and the other is Star Wars…so cute! Not nearly as intricate as your wee dresses! Adorable sweater, goes so well with the dress! Stay warm…or as warm as you can! Brrrrr!

  7. Stay warm!! My littles still love things I make for them…well the 7,5 and 3 do. The 10 almost 11 isn’t so into things …sigh. But she does like to sew , so that’s a good thing. We are talking about pillowcases for her friends for next Christmas already. The littles love twirly skirts, I use a 12-15 yr old tutorial from Erin of House on Hill RD. The first one in a shamrock fabric is still showing up on the youngest, the last one. Enjoy it all dear one!

  8. Always a treat to see what your crafty hands have been up to! I’m sewing but it’s much more mundane than these masterpieces. Lucky little girls!

  9. So sweet. It reminds me of my mother-in-law, who used to make matching dresses for Kirsten and Laura when they were little. I still have a few of them. I might have managed to make the odd dress but they came in a fairly constant stream from my MIL (who was trained in dressmaking, upholstery and cookery – hard to live up to!) that I was easily put off trying.

Keep cosy! That sounds horribly cold. We’re having our coldest days of the winter, but it’s just under freezing and windless and bright, so very pleasant really. xx

  10. So, so cute! Thanks for the card my friend. You wrote the perfect thing. Our hearts are broken but by the end of the week we were able to celebrate her life. ??

  11. I absolutely love seeing your sweet little dresses and sweaters. I have no intention of doing any of that, and no one to do them for, but I surely do love yous! So glad you have two sweet little girls who will enjoy them!

  12. The dresses are adorable! And the sweater. I’m making mustard-ish mittens, at the moment; it’s a color of the year, right? I agree, baby knits are the best. So much style, so little budget and time commitment. I hope you are staying warm!!
