Undercover

I’m deep undercover. Working on a VERY secret project. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with sewing or baking or anything fun. (Well, ok, it might be a little fun, but you won’t think so — it’s not very exciting at all.) I’ll be back in a few days to tell you a little more.

Top Secret

In the meantime, I’m sure you’ll be sitting around wondering what to do with yourselves. (Ha!)

Oooh, and in case you’re going through Matthew Bomer withdrawal now that White Collar is off season, the good people at CBS have provided us with some suitable eye candy in the form of a Person of Interest.

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

By now, you’ve probably heard the very sad news of Steve Jobs’ death. What an amazing man who has touched most of our lives.

I don’t currently own any apple products (there is hope) but I’ll never forget our first home computer. The very humble Apple II.

Apple II

We lived in Germany when the Apple II first came out and when I came home to visit family, my orders were to “Bring back that new little Apple computer.” It was all so very exciting. Would this new home computer thing just be a passing fancy? Were we throwing our money away? Oh, the fun we had writing little programs in Basic. I was so desperate for home-useful programs that I wrote a program to tell me what part of the house I needed to clean every day. Boy, oh boy, those were the days!

A few years ago I watched this video from Steve Jobs’ Stanford 2005 Commencement Address. Definitely worth the time to watch.

And tonight, I found this on YouTube .

R.I.P. Steve Jobs. You’ve left an indelible mark on our world — Thank You for leaving it a far better place than you found it.

XOXO,
Anna

Weekend Little Bits

Well, how was the weekend?  We had some gorgeous weather here — crisp and cool on Saturday and perfect on Sunday.  I don’t really have anything fun to show — no completed projects or anything fun like that.  The weekend was mostly things that had to be done, with little bits of stolen fun moments.

Little Bits of Knitting.  I started those sheepy socks (aka Flock Socks) and I’m very excited about them!

Sheep Socks

Little Bits of Quilting.  59 completed blocks — only 5 more to go!

Bliss Blocks

Little bits of applique.  I ran out of leaves, so more are being prepped.

Applique

And, Little bits of trench digging.  You know, just a normal weekend in ThimbleannaLand.

Trench

I think the only fully completed project was to create that new Thimbleanna banner up there. ‘Cause we now find ourselves solidly into a new season. Where oh Where did September go????

XOXO,
Anna

Sheepies!

Hi there Kidlets!  I hope you’re having a good week — we’re past the middle mark (Yay! – not that I’m wishing my life away, but we do love the weekend around here.)  My week hit a high point when I collected the mail and found this treasure cuddled up in an envelope.

Tea Cozy

Isn’t it cute?  It’s a Sheep Tea Cozy, all the way from Anne in Scotland. (Anne always posts pictures of sheep in Scotland and I love it.)   It’s all soft and squishy and, um, cozy.  Just like it’s supposed to be.  And look at Anne’s adorable little tag that she tucked into the seam.

Tea Cozy

I LOVE it Anne!  Thanks so much for such a fun surprise — you’re the bright spot in my week!  This little tea cozy reminded me that I never posted the pictures of sheep that I took for you when I was at market in Utah this spring.  You know, just so you could see what American sheep look like LOL.

Sheep

My cousin took these first few pictures.  She had to hop a fence to get close enough to them — I couldn’t get my fat ol’ butt over the fence (and it wasn’t that little one in the background either, thankyouverymuch).

Sheep

I love it when they have little black faces.  So cute.

Sheep

Hey Anne — do birds sit on sheepie backs in Scotland?  My cousin really liked this shot —  me too!

Sheep

I spotted these little lambs when I was driving down the road.  (Bonnie — do you recognize that rock pile?)

Sheep

They didn’t stay on the rock pile very long after I arrived.

Sheep

Might have had something to do with wanting their dinner!
There are sheep everywhere out in Utah, but I don’t usually see sheep here in corn country.  I actually saw some the other day though,  when I was driving out in the country.  It was a very pleasant surprise — I think they’re adorable!

XOXO,
Anna

Poof!

And just like that, it’s gone. The Summer of 2011 is just a blur. According to my archives, with the exception of a few visits with the kids, it wasn’t a particularly memorable summer here in ThimbleannaLand. It whizzed by in a cloud of more work than play. I want a do-over! More cook-outs and time to enjoy the flowers and fresh air. The only thing that makes fall’s arrival so soon, even remotely bearable, is this:

Candy Corn

It’s candy corn season! I luuuuuuvvvv the sweet salty taste of candy corn mixed with peanuts. I know a lot of you outside of the US can’t get candy corn. I think you should call/write/lobby your authorities and demand Candy Corn Equality! You deserve to share the candy Love!!!

Did you all have a nice weekend? It was a three-day-er here and it was a tad bit more stressful than I’d like. That’s ok though — the previous weekend was super fun, so now we’re weekend-even. I did manage to sneak in a little sewing. I really wanted to work on the Children blocks but I decided that the UFO that screams the loudest will get my attention. And since my Bliss blocks were spread out all over the basement, they won.

Bliss Blocks

I eeked out about 10 more blocks and have 10 more set up to be put together. It’s slow going, but I’m really enjoying it.

One last thing. Julie and I were talking about glass jars being used as cupcake liner holders. She mentioned that she hadn’t seen the cookie jar idea so I sent her the link. In case any of you also haven’t seen that idea, I took a picture of my cookie jar cupcake liner holder (that’s a mouthful!)

Cupcake Wrappers

I love it. My cupcake liners used to be crammed into a box and it wasn’t pretty. Now it’s pretty!

Now, go forth and have a good week. Fall is on it’s way!

XOXO,

Anna
