Quilt Market Report

Spring Quilt Market: A Few Quilts

Hi There.  One more little market post and we’re done.  I thought I’d show you just a few of the quilts that I liked.  At each market, they always have a small display area of some pretty quilts.  Here are a few that I liked.

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

This is the Gorsuch Family Quilt Circa 1840 Revisited by Margo Hardie from Australia.  The Australia part comes as no surprise — Australians have the beautiful applique gene!  I’m really taken with applique and all the work that it takes.  SO pretty.  I love the little squirrel block — it reminds me of a squirrel block that MeMum made once for her Baltimore Album quilt.

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

This quilt is I Have Many Faces by Natalie Carlton.  It’s such an interesting technique.  The faces are all done with raw edge applique with solid fabrics and then there is some threadplay on top of the fabric.

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

Look at the detail!  Aren’t they cool?  And who doesn’t love an Einstein?

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

This gorgeous Baltimore Album quilt is called Baltimore Classic by Rhonda Pearce from … wait for it … yes!  Australia!

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

Isn’t it beautiful?  I love everything about this quilt — the colors, the setting and the applique border.

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

Those were my three favorites from the display area.  And then there was this quilt — possibly my favorite quilt at market.  I’m not sure why really,  I just love it!

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

I LOVE quilts that have applique AND pieced blocks together.  This is The Aunt’s Quilt by Gina Gregory from …. Australia!  Jen Kingwell will be distributing the pattern and it will be out in June.  I had a long talk with Jen about this quilt.  She said they had a quilt-along for this quilt at Amitie, her quilt shop in Australia.  When I mentioned how much I loved those striped stems and wreaths, Jen said they had a terrible time getting that fabric.  They were begging customers to bring it in from their stashes!  After that conversation, I went on a mission to find a green stripe like that, and I think I found one that’s pretty darn close.  Naturally, I had to order some LOL.

Thimbleanna: Market Quilts

I’m planning on making this quilt in the fall after the fabric and pattern are here.  I think it would be super fun to make it together — anyone want to join me? We could make it a quilt-along, even though I have no idea how to make it a quilt-along LOL.  Maybe a little research is in order!  We could make an applique block and a pieced block each month.  And take breaks.  And eat chocolate.  LOTS of chocolate!!!

Anyway, something to think about.  In the meantime, I started a new project and after I take a picture or two, I’ll show you.

XOXO,
Anna

Spring Quilt Market: The Booths

{Warning!!! Picture Heavy Post!}

I have lots of market pictures to show you.  No matter how many photos I take though, it always seems like I forgot a LOT — and I did.  Market is so busy and so inspiring and so overwhelming and sometimes I just forget to take pictures!   These pictures are definitely lacking in quality — many booths have random bodies in them, so I hope you can at least get an idea what some of the booths were like.

Back to the first booth — Anna Griffin.  Her booth is always so pretty and here’s the side that featured the Halloween print that I showed on my last post.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Sandy Gervais’s booth was beautiful and sadly this photo has cut it in half.  I Love the colors of the fabrics in this collection — those chocolate prints are yummy!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

And look at these clever “flowers” she had at the center of her booth.  They’re made from Q-tips.  I heard the man in the booth assure someone that they were never-been-used Q-tips.  Whew!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

The Westminster booth was fun — they had live models standing on each side.  All day in those heels doesn’t look like much fun to me.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Amy Butler happened to be in the Westminster booth when I walked by but I didn’t venture in.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

I was on the same wavelength as Sherri when I saw the Edyta Sitar booth.  I love her new house quilt.  I LOVE pieced blocks combined with applique and I think this is such a cute combination.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

(As an aside, look at these cute hexagon papers that Edyta Sitar will soon be offering.  Each hexagon has a little saying on it (Love in Stitches, Life is short buy fabric, etc.).  Edyta said there are 100 different sayings in each package and the papers will be in two weights depending on whether you’re a baster or a gluer.  Very Clever!)

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

The indomitable Pat Sloan.  Her new fabric has some really cute coneflowers on it.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

The ever cute Gail Pan.  I talked to several of the Aussie designers — I’ve been missing Kellie and I just wanted to hear their Australian accents LOL!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

The Michael Miller booth was very pretty — I didn’t even get a shot of the fountain.  Those big panels in the foreground are all fabric and were so pretty.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

I loved this wall and I don’t even know the fabric manufacturer.  Dots and plaids in any color you could imagine.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Jillily always has a pretty booth.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Hatched and Patched from Australia.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

And both sides of Jen Kingwell’s booth.  There’s the famous Steampunk in the corner!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

I Love the quilt on the table on the right.  Again — the combination of pieced and applique blocks.  I talked to Jen a lot about this quilt.  She said they ran a quilt-along in Australia for this quilt and I’m thinking it would be really fun to do the same thing here.  The pattern will be available this summer and you will be hearing more about it LOL.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Jennifer Sampou.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Darlene Zimmerman.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Dear Stella.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Alexander Henry.  Their booth was all about the Ghastlies.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co.  SO many cute new patterns!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

And Look!  She’s used the Moda Mochi Dots as sashing!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Riley Blake had a fun beach theme, although I didn’t capture it very well.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

How cute are all those little flags in the American Made Brand booth? They’re all made of fabric and they were hanging on strings.   This may have been the second most photographed wall at market!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Art Gallery’s Cherie line is really pretty.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Windham is bringing back Far Far Away by Heather Ross.  I love the cute Princess and the Pea quilt!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

So, that’s enough for now! When we get back together I’ll show you a few quilts at market that I thought were really pretty. And then we’ll be done and we can get back to real life — which isn’t very exciting at the moment!

XOXO,
Anna

Spring Quilt Market 2014: The Fabric

Whew! I’ve just returned from quilt market — it was a super quick trip (luckily I’m close enough to drive!) and I even had time to sneak in a quickie visit with SweetiePie. When I arrived at her house, she saw my market bag and started laughing at the fabric I bought from sample spree — and she only saw part of it!

I have lots of booth pictures to show you, but I need to hurry so I can run to MeMum and BigDaddy’s, so I thought I’d just show you the fabric that jumped out at me while I take a few extra days to sort through market pictures. I failed to take pictures of all of the fabric (which is just impossible) and some will appear with the booth pictures.

Blend Fabrics was the first booth, so I’ll start there. As you may know, I love Cori Dantini and her cute little illustrations. She has a new woodland line that includes hedgehogs, foxes, owls, and squirrels. It’s super cute!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

She also has a new Christmas line out — I love the whimsical Santa.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Also in the Blend booth, but not new was their Halloween line by Maude Asbury. I’ve always loved those pumpkins and I finally had to get some!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Speaking of Halloween, Alexander Henry has a new Ghastlies line. Rumor has it that this will be the last one. Some of you are thinking “Finally!” and others just can’t get enough. If you’re a collector, this is a fun one. (Coming to a shop near you soon — ha!)

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Next up is Moda. Moda always has a lot of new stuff and I love almost all of it! More later, but here are a few of the fabric lines I loved:
Rambling Rose by Sandy Gervais. My photo doesn’t even begin to do justice to the beautiful colors in this fabric. Some of the prints are just so pretty too!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Miss Kate by Bonnie and Camille.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Elementary by Sweetwater.  I love every. single. print in this collection!  {Swoooon.}

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Horizon by Kate Spain.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

I also love this collection of dots by Moda — what a fun stash enhancer!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Riley Blake has a super cute little celebration line coming out in June. I’m really excited about this Happy Birthday print and I’m looking forward to making some fun things with it.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Then there were the Japanese fabrics. I was so star struck that I hardly got any pictures.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Lecien usually has a new Flower Sugar line and this is the entry for spring 2014.

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

The fabulous Pam Kitty fabrics are always so pretty they remind me of Japanese fabrics. The new Pam Kitty collection is SOOO pretty. I LOVE the aqua prints!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

I also loved this cute little fabric by Dear Stella. How fun would it be to applique (or embroider) clothing for all of those little animals. You could use scraps from all of your children’s clothing that you’ve saved!

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

And last, but far from least, there was much buzz and commotion about the debut of the Cotton and Steel division of RJR Fabrics. I didn’t get a good close up of their fabric (I’m sure you could google it) but here’s probably the most photographed wall of market:

Thimbleanna: Market Fabric

Ok, more market pictures next time — it sure would have been lots more fun if YOU had been there! If you just have to have a few of those lines before they officially come out at the end of summer, I managed to snag a few extra fat quarter packs at market and I’ve put them in my little etsy shop.

XOXO,
Anna

Show Me the Booty

First up, is a little business. I’m a few days late announcing the winner of A Quilting Life by Sherri. If you’ll recall, I had everyone tell me their favorite cookie. If you didn’t answer “Oatmeal Raisin”, I threw your entry out!

Just Kidding.

The winner is Jen who said “Oatmeal chocolate chip are my favorites. Punk too. But I don’t make them often. I tend to go for the straight chocolate in the sewing room. No cookies necessary. :)” Send me your address Jen!

During my travels during the last month, I’ve done a bit of shopping and I thought I’d show you the results of my sins. From Quilt Market:

Thimbleanna: Market Shopping

That’s Sweetwater’s Road 15 in the back, Riley Blake’s Checks and Dots on the left, Anna Griffin’s Elegance in front and Robert Kaufman’s newest Cat in the Hat Prints on the right.

Thimbleanna: Market Shopping

I also got some Flower Sugar from Lecien (in the back).  We went shopping one day while we were in Portland, and I ended up buying quite a few fat quarters for an upcoming project from Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe.  What a cute little shop!  And ooohhhh — did you notice the cute plant markers that Brigette gave me?  She made them herself!  Thanks Brigette!

After market, there was the trip to Iceland.  Of course, I had to buy some Icelandic yarn!  In the back is lots of yarn for a Lopapeysa sweater.  More Lopi on the right for a little stripey scarf.  and I purchased the small balls of yarn on the left in hopes that they will work for some of Julie’s Little Cotton Rabbits.

Thimbleanna: Iceland Shopping

When I met Berglind in Iceland, she was so sweet and she gave me some wonderful gifts.  Among them are beautiful pile of fabrics and a new book, both by Gudrun Erla, an Icelandic designer who now lives in Minnesota.  I love them and I’ve already picked out a project in the Fast & Furious book that I want to try.  Berglind also gave me a DVD to show me how to knit my lopapeysa — how perfect is that?  I can’t wait to watch it and get knitting!  Thank you so much Berglind!

Thimbleanna: Iceland Shopping

And, of course, when I was shopping with Berglind, I had to buy some Tilda fabrics.  It was hard to only choose a few, but my resources were limited!

Thimbleanna: Iceland Shopping

Oink Oink.  I feel like a little piggy.  Now I just need to stay home and get some work done.  I have had some quilting time this weekend.  (In addition to helping TheFirstChild and SweetiePie pack their kitchen up for their move.)  I finished the quilt top I was piecing and I strapped it onto the Flynn Frame and started quilting.  What a mess — I’ve decided the older I get, the more I hate that frame.  Not sure I’ll be using it again.

Anyway, I quilted about 1/4 of the quilt and decided to bail out.  TheManoftheHouse and his trusty dental tool are very kindly helping me unpick the quilting.  New plan coming soon.

Thimbleanna: Unpicking

I hope you’ve had a good weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

Quilt Market Part 2

Whew!  It’s busy, busy in ThimbleannaLand and I’ve barely had any time for blog reading.  I’m hoping things will get back to normal by the end of the month — and then it will be June.  Yikes!

So, back to Quilt Market.  Look Lookie — it’s the Lakehouse Girls!  It was so fun to see Ms. Pam Kitty and Holly again and we had a nice visit.  Look at all that PKM fabulosity there in the bottom left-hand corner.  I was going to say how much I love the Union Jack pillow, but I love it all!

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

Here’s cute little Vanessa in her Moda booth.  She was swamped with people every time I passed her.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

And, speaking of swamped, there was no way to get a good, full-on picture of Ms. Ric Rac and her booth.  Everyone loved her adorable creations.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

What’s not to love?  How can you possibly resist a monkey on a tire swing???  (With a rhino photo-bombing the picture!)

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

The. Dress. was the star of the booth though.  I Looooove that dress.  What a work of art!  Someone said that Jemma told them that the dress is very heavy.  It was so fun to see it in real life.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

And while we’re discussing Australians, I had a hard time leaving Jen Kingwell’s booth.  These quilts are fabulous.  I’m feeling a Steam Punk quilt in my future.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

I’ve always loved Anna Griffin’s sophisticated designs.  (It’s not her name, pinky swear.  ;-D )  The Eleanor line is just beautiful.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

And Anna Griffin has a new designer, Cori Dantini.  This fabric is soooo cute.  You will be seeing it again.  ;-D

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

There was even a knitting pattern booth at quilt market. Deep South Fibers. Such cute knits.

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

And a gorgeous smocked dress in the Deep South Fibers booth. With bees!

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

And here’s my parting gift.  We thought these signs on the sewing chairs were pretty funny.  What does that say about quilters?  Hmmmm???  Maybe we should all post a sign like this on our sewing chairs — just as a reminder to get up and get moving LOL!

Thimbleanna: Quilt Market Portland

So, that’s it for my quilt market pictures. Thanks for sticking with them and reading to the end. Now to get my sewing room cleaned a little so I can start a new project!

XOXO,
Anna
