Wedding
A Favorful Weekend
Hmmmmm. I think I jinxed our weather by saying that I thought spring was finally here. It’s clearly had a change of mind. It was cold and rainy all day yesterday and I was freezing today. That’ll teach me!
Aside from Mother’s Day this weekend, we were busy, busy making stuff for the wedding. I’m going to have cupcakes for the rehearsal dinner, so I spent some time getting the cupcake decorations and boxes ready. Then I gave my printer, paper cutter and little xyron machine a workout by making labels for water bottles.
The water bottles are for gift baskets for hotel guests. It’s pretty hard to take a picture of a basket wrapped in shiny cellophane, but you probably get the idea. SweetiePie decided on these white baskets for friends and she chose a wicker basket with a lid (and no cellophane) for family members. We put chips, cookies, mints, a bit of chocolate and the water bottles in each of the baskets. Then we tied them with a little tag with a message from the bride and groom.
That’s not very many pictures for all the work that was my weekend! The cupcakes will come later after they’ve been made. In the middle of all of this favor making, there was a little unplanned, impromptu favor to be made. On Saturday afternoon, TheFirstChild’s friends came to pick him up for an overnight bachelor party. I made them all pose for a picture in one of the boys’ jeeps and I was so pleased with the picture, I printed copies and made a little bag with picture and cookies for each of them.
TheFirstChild has been so fortunate to have a group of really good friends that he’s known since kindergarten. I grew up moving around and don’t really have any childhood friends, so watching him with these friends has been an amazing experience. I remember when the boys were all around second grade or so, an older mother told a few of us younger mothers to look around and notice the boys that our sons were hanging out with, because they wouldn’t be the same set of friends that these boys would have in high school. Thank goodness that mother was wrong. These boys have all been such a good influence on each other. Of the eight boys that went to the party on Saturday, 1 was a college friend, 2 are from the class behind TheFirstChild’s and the remaining 5 are all in or on their way to medical school. What are the odds of that? Some random act that landed them all in the same kindergarten class? I often wish TheSecondChild had been so fortunate — his class just didn’t gel like these guys. Nor did any of the other classes within several years. It’s just weird!
So, it’s a great start to our very exciting week. It’s such an honor for me, as his mother (and so close to Mother’s Day!) to watch him surrounded by friends and loved ones as he’ll start his new life with his adorable little SweetiePie. I’ve been thinking what a charmed life he leads, but really, it’s me with the charmed life. All you mothers who’ve been through this before should send me advice (or kleenex) to keep me from bursting!
XOXO,
Anna
Duck, Duck … Invitation.
Ok, it’s been almost 3 weeks since I mentioned the W-word. Did you think maybe I’ve forgotten all about it? Or maybe … gasp … they’ve called it off????
Nope…nothing so drastic. Can I just say these weddings are a lot of work? I used to wonder why people get so wrapped around the axle over weddings. They’re a lot of fun, but it would be a lot easier to just elope and take all that money to start a new life!
This has been invitation week. The invitations arrived last weekend (or was it even before that? — the days are flying by) and we spent several days adding ribbons to them and lining the inner envelopes (and, apparently I’ve failed to get envelope pictures.) Then we had to make the little map with accommodations information that was also tucked into each envelope. And there was envelope stuffing. And stamping. And sealing.
The sealing was a lot of fun (next to rubbing our fingers over all those raised letters — we’re apparently touchy-feely types!) We were like kids in a candy store melting that wax and watching each blob turn into an initial. They’re all done now and have been mailed off. Yay!
And for those of you who are “W” adverse, here’s a few pictures for you. The duck couple was hanging out this weekend. Here’s the picture from yesterday morning.
Wait a minute! Look closer up there…that’s two male ducks! I had to kind of scare them a little to get that second male to un-tuck his head so I could see the unmistakable green feathers. I found myself in the same position as Nicole and her little Ozzie — could my duck be gay? I mean, he’s not eating lipstick or anything (although he is wearing orange shoes), but where’s the Mrs. … and who’s this new guy he’s hanging around with? Nicole seems to be taking it all in stride, and while I really want to be open minded, I was a little concerned about Mrs. Duck.
But alas, all that Saturday worrying for naught. The Mrs. was back this morning. I guess she ran that other guy off. The men-folk were probably just hanging around the local watering hole while the women folk were out having their feathers done. Now, I just wish they’d get busy and make some baby ducks. They always hang around eating the grub for a few weeks, but they never stay long enough to produce the babies. Freeloaders.
Hope you all have a great week!
XOXO,
Anna
SweetiePie’s Bridal Shower

We interrupt this post to say:
Happy Birthday SweetPea!!!!
My little angel is 21 today!!! I have no idea how it could be that I have a 21 year old. I might look old enough, but I certainly don’t feel that old! We miss you SweetPea! As I write this, he’s gearing up for the big birthday celebration with all of his friends. He hasn’t had any Mexican food since he’s been in AU and they’ve found a Mexican restaurant for dinner. How very exciting to celebrate your 21st birthday in Sydney! Be careful SweetPea and have a grand time!

Now, on to SweetiePie’s shower. MyDadLovesMeBestSister absolutely outdid herself! It was a beautiful shower and I’m pretty sure everyone had a great time.
We decided that, rather than play games, we would tie a quilt for the new couple. After everyone arrived, we all went to the sunroom where we had the fabric all ready on a quilt frame.
Many hands make light work! It only took us about 45 minutes to finish all the tying and take the quilt off of the frame. Everyone signed a block for the back of the quilt and I’ll bind it later. (Mama Bunny kept a watchful eye.)
After the quilt tying, we all ate like pigs had some nice refreshments. And MDLMBS had the most beautiful flower arrangements for the shower. SweetiePie’s colors are black and white with bits of pink thrown in, so MDLMBS chose gorgeous pink flowers for the gift table. Because I’m a dope, I didn’t get a picture of the gift table until after the gifts were removed from it!
Anyway, the food was fabulous! In dopey move number 2, I didn’t get a nice picture of the buffet that MDLMBS had all set up. (What the heck — I was filling my plate!) You can catch a glimpse of it at the back of the gift table picture, under the congratulations banner. MDLMBS served ham and turkey mini-croissants, bruschetta, fruit kabobs, two kinds of yummy brie with crackers (one savory and one sweet) and lemon bar cookies cut into heart shapes. All with pink lemonade, among other drinks.
After some good food, SweetiePie opened many wonderful gifts. Along with a few that caused lots of laughs and raised eyebrows.
And to cap off our afternoon, MDLMBS ordered the MOST fantastic cake. It was a raspberry swirl cake with an awesome buttercream frosting. It’s apparently the dessert of choice among all of her friends. When one of my friends asked what kind of cake it was and MDLMBS told her, I thought my friend would faint on the spot — she said it’s her favorite cake. How I wish I could send you all a piece to sample!
It was the most perfect, happy day. Thank you forever MDLMBS! You’re the best ever!!! Now, I’ll leave the rest of you with a blurry picture of my favorite gift of the day, given to SweetiePie by MDLMBS. (Please excuse the red marks, the lemon bars and raspberries were on this platter.)
It says This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with and love. I love this platter. It makes me all misty-eyed!
I hope all you wonderful peeps are having a great day. Oh! And happy First Day of Spring!!!
XOXO,
Anna
