Checking Off THE List

Wow — I have a crowd of smart gardening readers going on here! Thanks for all the information about our black tomatoes. The general consensus is that they are some sort of heirloom tomato. They taste ok, and I didn’t keel over with stomach cramps — it’s just that they don’t really look like tomatoes. Thanks for all the info though — you guys are great!

Only 4 more days until the autumnal equinox, which means that summer will officially be over. I’m cramming to get the last five items completed on my 10 Things this Summer List. I ticked off two last weekend:

7. Clean Up the Sewing Room. I didn’t remove everything from the shelves and go through it all, but I did get all horizontal surfaces cleaned off and I have a knee-high pile of old counted cross-stitch and painting magazines and books to dispatch. Where to send? Goodwill? Do they take stuff like that? A black hole??? I do occasionally send old junk to unsuspecting victims just for the fun of it — maybe I should save the pile for all the special people in my life LOL.

Anyway, no pictures of the cleaned up room, ’cause…you know. It’s a dungeon. I will show you the picture of my trusty helper though. While I was cleaning things up, PaulKitty thought he’d make himself comfy in my fabric. BAD Kitty!

9. Go On a Picnic. Hmmm. This one was a little challenging. I couldn’t convince MeMum and BigDaddy to go to a park or a cornfield or something like that for a picnic. So, I decided to bring the picnic to them. I really wanted to spread quilts on their trampoline and have a picnic there, but I decided the food would probably bounce all over while we tried to keep ourselves upright. So, we spread MeMum’s garage-sale cheater quilt on their little patio table and I brought them some Kentucky Fried Chicken in my picnic basket. A cheater picnic on a cheater quilt. Perfect!

Must run — I’m busily trying to complete my last three items on the list. At least one of them isn’t going to get done. So sad.

Oh! Speaking of sad, can we please have a moment of silence for my beloved?

Thimbleanna.com: Lens

My long-time do-it-all lens is in the sickly lens hospital. I’m pretty hard on my camera stuff and my lens is feeling poorly. Hopefully whatever she has isn’t fatal and she’ll be home soon — I miss her terribly!

Happy Hump Day!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. so so so sorry about your lens.
    :a moment of silence
i just want you to know, if you send me anymore awful craft books or old quilt patterns i’m going to pay someone to put a bag of flaming dog poop on your front porch.
great job on the sewing room.
i’m not cleaning mine. i’m flying my sister up either thursday night or next week and SHE is going to do it. i’m using this broken foot of mine for all she is worth!! i’ve been out of the cast now for two weeks but mum’s the word. she hasn’t been up here cleaning for a year and a half and sometimes, well, this messy girl can use a little assistance!!
it’s payback for how crappy she was when i was young. sometimes, yes… sometimes, life just gets better and mean older sisters become nice sisters who come clean your house for 20 hours a day.
okay, sorry, i was fantasizing there for a moment and she’s not even here yet.
back to you: bravo on the list.
you never cease to amaze me you ABG.
    :waves madly
    b.

  2. A KFC picnic -excellent! Though now you have me feeling nostalgic for Boston Chicken – does that still exist? It may have been a regional thing though …

  3. I never seen the “black” tomatoes either but here at my daughters house she served them last night! I had just seen your on your blog and then to see them in person was kind of weird – I thought they tasted just like regular – in Arkansas we have (not me personally) some that are called “pink tomatoes” and they are pink and there are also a variety that is yellow although I have not seen them personally. They are all supposed to taste pretty much the same.

  4. I didn’t have a “summer list” this summer although I did enjoy a lot of the summer in a eat right and be healthy way. My husband and I went on quite a few little beach and mountain trips, but, for some reason, I didn’t include much knitting in them. Now that it’s starting to cool down though, I’m feeling like I need a big project, maybe even a sweater.

Paulkitty is hilarious. They do know how to find the most comfortable spot in the house.

  5. Now that’s my kind of picnic! I didn’t know KFC had boneless. We have one just a hop, skip and a jump away. Oliver, our puppy, keeps begging us to take him through the drive thru. His first birthday is next week – what do you think?

  6. Oh no! Wishing the best for your lens! Because we all do love your pictures. Get well soon! And I love how nicely all your favpbric is folded. I’m saving the fabric organizing for last in my sewing room do-over. I’ve also pulled a lot of old crafting books to donate and have a LOT of old quilting magazines to let go of. Wonder if assisted living residences might want them? You’ve inspired me so many times over the years. I think I will put a spin on your Summer List and maybe do a monthly or quarterly list.

  7. Im going to guess that the KFC cheater picnic was well received, and great way to tick another item off your list! My kids are bummed our best/biggest shady tree got cut down this year (blast the Ash bourough) but I think we ought to head out for one last picnic too.

the appleseed guild would take your misc. stuff for the free table…fyi. we meet first tues of month, but of course i could just come get it for you…its not like becky goldsmith is there or anything…:)

    hope you have an umbrella.

  8. Love your “Cheater Picnic”. A picnic is a picnic is a picnic. How can you go wrong with KFC? I’m so impressed that you’ve checked so many things off your to-do list. I didn’t even have one! I need to get up to the sewing room and clean. I need to find the floor.

  9. Wow that fabric folding puts my hap hazard way to shame!
What a great picnic idea. I just love picnics! I used to give my kids picnics in the house in different places and they LOVED it. So funny.
poor lens…I’m sure she’ll be fine and home soon

  10. Mike, Mike, Mike. Instead of bringing messy revenge on yourself, you could do a mystery giveaway of those old books your faithful readers. You know the kind – do you want this box of crafty supplies… Those of us on this comment trail could take bets on how many entries you receive. (And I’d laugh myself silly in receiving a musty box of cross stitch patterns… and find a way to inflict, I mean give them to someone else.)

  11. That PaulKitty is something else! I really need to clear my flat surfaces and put some things away in my sewing/work room, but I keep getting out just one more thing to do. Good thing I have a door to slam shut.

So sorry about your lens. I hope it isn’t fatal.

  12. Your fabric in this post is timely (yes, I know I’m reading an old post, not today’s, however, it is timely for me! ;)) My parents came for an extended weekend. We took a drive to find a quilt store she found. We went and looked (well, Mom bought things, of course! :) And I told her all the things she could make me for Christmas! ;)) It was SUCH a nice place! Best quilt store I’ve been to, I think, but I haven’t been to one in a while. You may have even been in it when you were this way? http://www.redroosterquilts.com/

  13. Love how you caught the cat in the fabric. Maybe that should be a book. But you have to get a new lens before you can take photos for your book. Right?

  14. Not sure KFC counts as a picnic, I think it’s cheating! You might need to redo that one before you cross it off your list. Aren’t you suppose to make these elaborate salads and dishes, oh and fresh lemonade etc…. Where are the ants? Looks like a redo to me! :P
