Not The Good Friday, but a good Friday anyway. Boy, thanks for all the purse thingy love! You guys are the best. This week hasn’t yielded any crafty excitement at all. I’ve been working on a few little things, but nothing is far enough along for show-and-tell. After goofing off around here this morning, I went to MeMum’s this afternoon and we watched a few episodes of Monarch of the Glen. Ms. Yummers recommended it to me several months ago and we’re really enjoying the series. Just the scenery alone makes it all worthwhile…and that’s not even counting the leading man eye candy!
Anyway, as you can see, I didn’t take Paul back to TheSecondChild last weekend. He’s just having too much fun with TheEmptyNestChild. And besides, TheSecondChild is fostering a kitty for a friend (she had him in her dorm room and got caught…oops!) until school is out. We thought we’d save Paul the trauma of a new kitty along with the move he’ll be facing when school is out. In the meantime, he enjoys watching the sunset from the patio widow with TheEmptyNestChild.
A few random things —
— Check out this cute quilt that Shawn is making. I really like the interesting technique she’s using…not to mention the cute fabric and the size of the pieces.
— What do you wear when you clean your house? I wear sweat pants and a t-shirt and look like a total slob. You must go see THIS adorable outfit. I LOVE everything about it and I’m hoping to change my ways. Thanks for the inspiration June!
— Here’s some really cute little posy pushpins that I’d love to make!
— Now, I’m going to whisper. Psst. Come closer. I just don’t get twitter. Call me a dinosaur. It just screams TMI (too much information), or information overload or something. What am I missing???
And finally, here’s a random pile of books in my living room. I’m hoping to read a little this weekend. Our book group has selected Geraldine Brooks’ People of the Book for this month’s selection. I loved her Year of Wonders, but for some reason I’m not really excited about this book. We’ll see. Anyway, totally by coincidence, Ms. Brooks will be in town on Monday night to discuss this book. In 17+ years our book group has only ever heard one other author speak and that was Barbara Ehrenreich speaking about her book Nickle and Dimed. That presentation was reasonably interesting, considering I thought her book was a bunch of (please cover your delicate eyes) Crap. I know Ms. Brooks is controversial in some circles too, but I have much higher hopes for her.
Tomorrow is siggy swap day for me. I must get going on those blocks or they won’t get done. Think I can knock them out in one day? Hopefully I’ll at least make a big dent in them. I hope you all have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna
The cats are too cute!!! I was hoping for a weekend without kids but no luck! I’ve fallen behind on those darn blocks! Oh, the pressure!!!
Aww…I love the front and back view. Beautiful bookends!
I loved People of the Book, one of my favorite reads for our book club, along with the Red Tent by Anita Diamant!! I hope to read more of her stuff, should be a great talk!! I love when you can learn a bit of history while being entertained by the general story as well.
Never commented on the purse thingy but loved that…need to do some for me, but still scared of zippers!! And the vinyl thing too, lol!!
Leaning forward and whispering right back (I get you on the twitter thing.)
I love Monarch of the Glen! Can watch it over and over again!
I read so much about Facebook and Twitter lately! I can hardly cope with having my addictions as it is and keeping up with the a blog and visiting…LOL! So please, let there be some non-twitter people left…!
Love the picture of your sunset-(bird)-watchers!
Psst…me too!
I don’t get the facebook thing either…I tried it once and an old flame got in touch…which wasn’t my idea of fun! I think I’ll stick to bloggin’
He he, I don’t get Twitter either. Think I’ll stick to blogging … it’s definitely more my speed!!! Love the kitty pics, they are so cute :o).
Hugs,
Joy :o)
I’m right there with you Miss Anna…don’t get Twitter…I don’t think anyone could possibly care what I was doing every minute…LOL! Love the kitty pictures…so cute watching the sunset.
I don’t get Twitter either – but I haven’t looked very hard at it either!
Have a lovely weekend!
Lucyx
What a fun post, cute cats, projects to try, book, and just everything.
As for Facebook and Twitter, I let myself be talked into joining them and have already deleted my accounts. They were driving me crazy with a bunch of silliness that really didn’t do much more than waste my time.
I loved Year of Wonders, too. I have People of the Book, but, like you, haven’t been too excited about it. I think I’ll try to read it, though.
I just don’t get twitter either. I’m slowly warming to the whole facebook thing. I look pretty sloppy as well when I’m cleaning the house. I’ve ruined too many shirts with bleach based cleaners. So I just wear the old stuff that I don’t care if it gets another stain.
Have a nice weekend!
Thank you for that great clue, to have a look at the posy pushpins.
I love your cat- photos.
Have a great weekend
Janine
I’m whispering back – until today I though Twitter was a website about birds. I really did. Emma x
What a great post. So many cute future projects!! I love when you let us in on the cuteness around the web. And I’m right there with you on the siggy swap. I am hoping this weekend will be the one to see some progress made. I haven’t even started!!! Yikes!! Time to panic??? Maybe not yet???
Love the cute little kitties. I now have three. You do know they are collectables don’t you?
I tried twitter but it’s too confusing for this old bird.
Anna the kitties are so cute. My little ones are having a ball playing together, I just love em. I also clean in sweats and would never answer the door while cleaning lest I scare someone to death. I can’t clean when I have make up on. LOL Made your Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and have eaten dozens of them myself. I love the recipe. Thanks. Somebody stop me! Have a great week end. xoxo
I’m with you on Twitter. A blog is about as “out there” as I can manage. Of course, two years ago I didn’t see any need for a blog…
Anna~ Thank you so much for mentioning me in your post! I love wearing an apron around the house some how it makes me feel a little “dressed up” especially with a bow tied in the front. Junie Moon looks very cute in her apron. I don’t even want to learn about Twitter or Facebook I already spend way to much time sidetracked in this chair!!
Those feline children are SO cute!
those kitties are darling.
okay, we HAVE to make that hexagon quilt when we grow up. HAVE to. it sounded like she would tell you how later. cutest thing ever.
when i clean my house i wear a little apron my mom’s friend made when i was a little girl. and jean shorts, and a black tshirt. and i put a bow in my hair. just kidding. i do wear the apron, but not the bow… but NOW, i’m going to. i’ll be the one on the back deck, in the black and white checked gingham apron, with a bow in my hair! (my scary hair! my sister-in-law had a seizure when she was cutting my hair. not really, but it looks like it and that sounds nicer than saying she’s a total B&%$@*! and should go back to school. first of all, it came out midlife-crisis-blonde, THEN, i part it on the left and the left side is LONG and the right side is about 2″ shorter. OH.. and did i mention that i’m fat? and i didn’t want my hair this short? cuz it accentuates my big freaking round face???? did i mention that? that she cut 4″ off one side and 6″ off the other? and she was supposed to ‘tip the ends’? she was supposed to ‘touch up my roots’ and tip the ends. then she decided to throw a LITTLE blonde in. oh my! i had to go to my neice’s wedding with choppy, sowhiteitlookslikeiliveinarizonablonde, uneven, way too short hair. it was all bad. so the bow, would either help hide it, or maybe draw attention to my head. my round head.) my, my, i think i just ranted!
:waves madly from the back deck
Hey Anna! Your cats are so beautiful! Great photos! I haven’t even looked at twitter let alone joined in …. I have no more time for antything else in this little life of mine!!! I have just started watching ‘The Street’ which I think is the best British drama I have ever seen!
You’re a Garrison Keillor fan? No wonder I like you! And Guide To A Happy Life is one of my all time favourites! I reread it regularly, because, you know, the memory is the first thing to go, and mine went already…..
Oh, look at those darling kitties! They look like Salt n’ Peppa!
Hope you stop on by for my 1st Blogoversary/100th post celebration! I’m even having a giveaway! Do come on over! Everyone is invited!!! :)
Awww, the two puss-cats look so cute! It’s good that they get along.
And Twitter? I kinda get it, but I have no time. Like you say, too much information. While you’re typing out those tweets, you could be doing something more worthwhile. Like sewing. He he he!
Paul looks to be more than happy with the Emptynestchild.
I enjoyed A Year of Wonders, but have not read the one you mention.
I have just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, & found it very hard to put down, I loved it so much.
Cute kittycats. I enjoyed your tutorial on the little key pockets – very nice. Oh for more time to make all the neat things I see on here.
I don’t get Twitter either! Randy and I were talking about it last night and neither one of us can figure it out. Are we old? I don’t think so. I think we just want to keep some things in our life private. I think some people twitter “Well, I took a breath in. Now I took one out.” Come on people! Your book selection looks interesting. Anything by Garrison Keillor is alright in my book – no pun intended!
Paul and TheEmptyNestChild are perfect together. It will be hard to split them up. And as for Twitter, am I a Twit for joining? I don’t understand how to follow the conversations. I don’t know who is talking to whom and what are they trying to say. I don’t go anymore, not that interested. I am interested in some new reading material so I will check these out.
Anna, I love your stack of books. We should have blog book day and everyone post a picture of the books by their bedside. Although I might not want to post that picture, myself! My husband is on the Twitter thing, I don’t get it myself; I’m kind of interested in the book communities, like Shelfari and Goodreads, but haven’t joined any. Need to!
Karen
I just love the pictures of the kitties.
Oh man do I need to get moving on finishing up the last of my Siggy blocks…I just keep putting them off. I enjoyed the randoms.
I don’t twitter. As you know, I facebook, which is “busy” enough for me! :))
We’ll have to meet up sometimes, as I bet you’re pretty close, or close to my husband’s family in Northern IN. Maybe when Molly visits OH again? :))
Hope you had a good weekend!
You know, I don’t get twitter either. For one, it seems that it would waste a lot of time to constantly be telling people what you’re doing. Two, life is pretty boring for me…I don’t think people want to know that I just swept the floors or something like that. Three, I’d rather just live life. Maybe I’m getting old or something…. :)
On another note…I just finished a book last week and thought I’d recommend it to you. It is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Shaffer & Barrows. Odd title, I know. It is set in England in 1946 and is made up entirely of letters written to and from one woman. I think the story is beautiful.
Lovely cat pictures, whatever is outside the window looks pretty interesting:) Love June’s cleaning outfit – I look more like you! As for Twitter, it strikes me as a total waste of time, I have more interesting things to do than that!
Well, thank you for saying out loud what I didn’t want to admit (even if you only said it in a whisper :-)
I don’t get Twitter either. And I’ve been totally feeling like I’m missing something.
I don’t get Twitter either. I’ve signed up for it twice, canceled my account once, and now just think about it every now and then, but rarely post anything. What for?
Monarch of the Glen! It’s a good show. I watched it pretty regularly for a couple of seasons, but I think I’m going to go back and watch it all from Season One.
I highly recommend Vicar of Dibley and Chef, also.
THANK YOU! Twitter is retardo. We had a minor earthquake here in NorCal this AM and everyone raced to their laptops and Blackberries to see what was going on on Twitter. For me, it seemed pointless. We were all asking the same question: “Was THAT an earthquake?”
See, stupid.
I too don’t get Twitter but then I’m frightened to find out because of spending too much time blogging already. I wouldn’t have thought blogging would be fun and it is.
Love the cat pictures. And that “easy” purse with its 217 instructions. Hmm.
Hi Anna,
thank you for visiting my blog.
I think it is a great thing to communicate with people all over the world and I love it when somebody leaves a comment, especially such a friendly one like yours.
I feel flattered by your commodiation.
Danke sehr!
I live near Aachen (the first german town in alphabet and the westernmost).
This town is very old. A couply of years we celebrated the 2000 anniversary.
Aachen has a border with belgium and the netherlands. They call it the three- country- point. You can hop there from one country to the other.
i loved doing that as a child.
Well lovely Aachen is my town of birth but now I live in the neighbor- community called Herzogenrath which is in english something like
“Dukes- councillor”.
It is a smaller town with a lot of forests and fields. There are no sights but it is a good and friendly place to live.
My house is opposite of the old graveyard and behind this is the forrest.
I never been to Hanau.
When did you live there?
And why did you leave?
Cuba was great and yes, I believe you are right; Americans are not allowed to go to Cuba.
Never mind, the Castros won´t live forever and you still have the rest of Middel- and Southamerica.
You can see a photobook of Cuba on my blog, If you like.
Have a good start in the week
Herzliche Gruesse aus Aachen

Your two kitties are precious. We have one cat but she is outdoors due to my allergies. She is a great little hunter and at least a couple of times a month we have her “presents” on our back patio. Thanks for the compliments on my blog. I always look forward to hearing from you and enjoy your blog as well. I also have two kids in college. My son will graduate May 7, Yay! My daughter is finishing her Sophomore year. My son is determined to not go to grad school but my daughter is pre-med. You will have to keep me updated on how your son does in Med school. Have a good week.
The kitties are cute!
Twitter doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me either and I have twitter followers! Since I never post on Twitter they are totally getting nothing and frankly I don’t have the wherewithal to post all the minute details of my REALLY boring life nor do I suppose anyone is really interested. Wait maybe I could carry around a little webcam. It could be used as a sleep aid thing, perhaps.
P.S. Americans ARE allowed to go to Cuba any time they like, they are just not allowed to spend any money there. Kind of hard unless you bring a picnic lunch and have a boat to Miami waiting at the pier for you.
I love that embroidered thimble! Wish I had one of those machines.
S.W.A.K.
