Guess What I’m Knitting

How’s everybody’s week going?  I’m just doing my monthly hang-out-in-a-hotel thing, so I started a new knitting project.  Can you tell what it is?

Sewing Day

Anybody?  It looks kind of goofy and that’s not the greatest picture for you to be able to tell.  But I guess that’s sort of the idea.  I’m thinking maybe we could have a little Guess What I’m Knitting contest.  If you want to play, put your guess in the comments and everyone that has a correct guess will have their name thrown into a pot from which I’ll draw for a prize.  (I’m pretty sure there’s something grammatically wrong with that sentence, but you get the idea!)

How ’bout a brand new, only-out-of-the-cellophane-for-this-picture, Vera Bradley wallet/passport holder?

Sewing Day

No cheating.  Not sure how you’d cheat, but I thought I should say that.  I know someone will ask, so how ’bout three guesses per person?  I’ll just leave the contest open until I have a finished project to show (which, at the rate I’ve been completing stuff lately, could be February!)

In case you’re not a knitter or don’t follow Little Cotton Rabbits (IS that possible?) I thought I’d repeat, as she said, “an opportunity to spread a little happiness.”  If you’d like to take a few minutes out of your day to send a card to a very sick little girl who loves to receive mail, you can get the address and more info HERE.  Wouldn’t it be great if this little girl received more cards than the wall in her room could hold?

(Update:  Brilliant Brigette noted that the link above is a little confusing about where to send your card.  It needs to be sent to the TN address.  You can find out more HERE.)

And one last thing.  Felicia posted about a book festival she attended recently and one of the attending authors was Billy Collins, a past US poet laureate.  Several years ago I convinced two of my coworkers to go hear Billy Collins do a reading at the Library of Congress and we had an amazing time.  I LOVE Billy Collins.  He’s written MANY awesome poems (and has quite a few books available.)  If you have a few minutes, you can check out my FAVORITE poem of his HERE.  Oh, and you might need a hanky.

Have a great weekend!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Anna, I am going to guess you are knitting a pair of fingerless gloves. I love the colors in the yarn, by the way. Have the colors started to change in NY yet? Here in Michigan the leaves are staying green for now, but I bet they will explode in color very soon. Good evening!

  2. okay anna, i’m not sure that i have a guess yet. they clearly aren’t my blue christmas socks so i’ll wait and guess later.
i’ll send that little girl a card tonight or first thing tomorrow morning. after i hit up my friends for four years for every soldier in my son’s unit not getting mail, it’s the least i could do… not to mention the support my daughter got even from random people when she was in the hospital for months when she was 14. my daughter’s hospital room looked a bit like disneyland – and it helped her a great deal. i didn’t get your email until just now – i was upstairs sewing blue and white pinwheels! i’m in love with pinwheels. madly, gaga, in love with pinwheels (and triangles on a roll).
i’m 1/4 of the way done with the birds for one of the quilts. that’s not saying too much though since i’m only doing 16 birds on each one. but they’re lookin’ cute. i’ll have a peeksie in a week or so.
    have fun at MAGNOLIA tomorrow.
    :sigh
    eat a few for me.
perhaps i’ll bake a few to put in my motherfreakindome! although it’s not here yet!
    :waves madly

  3. whatever it is, it’s beautiful! i’m not going to be very original. but i’m guessing a scarf. i had never visited Little Cotton Rabbits, oh my! I’ve been missin out, haven’t i. sounds like you’re going to be visiting magnolia tomorrow. well, think of me, i’ll be home frosting FOUR HUNDRED cupcakes myself! LOL. for a friends wedding, and it’s been rather fun. i’ll be posting about it, this weekend. happy knitting. ooxx`jod

  4. hey anna,
please tell everyone sending a card to your little friend that they should click on the link to “follow her progress” to get the address to the hospital she is at right now, because the blogpost has a virginia address and she is currently at a hospital in tennessee. just fyi. so not everyone is filling out two envelopes like i did! i guess i’ll have one to send her when she gets home!

  5. Hmmmm…how about mittens? They sure would be cute with that yarn!

Thanks for the link about the little girl. I think Aubry and I will be sending out a note tomorrow!

  6. My first thought was a caterpillar too!! But I am settling on a pair of socks! I will definitely send a card out. How nice that would be for her to receive tons of cards.

  7. I think it’s a scarf. I knitted scarves from similar yard for the girls in my family a couple of years ago and they still use them.

  8. I think you’re knitting …. well anything that would win me that prize basically!! I’m not proud!
    Kimx
    Tis very pretty anyway

  9. My, you’ve been a busy little blogger while I’ve been out of the loop!I’m guessing a hat for winter, with fall approaching and all!

  10. It’s a bag!

Well that’s what I thought when I first saw it and no-one else has guessed that (I think) so I MUST be right!!!!

I’m off to read your poetry link – hope it doesn’t make me cry too much!

  11. The only thing better than reading Billy Collins is hearing Billy Collins. I heard him recite “The Lanyard” on “Prairie Home Companion” a couple of years ago and it inspired a Mother’s Day post for my blog.

  12. Anna, The first thing I thought of was a Goofy Knitted Bag??? maybe a pair of socks, or some leg warmers. I don’t know. Ill be anxious to know. You are so Mysterious!!!! You keep us guessing…

  13. Hi Anna!

I just watched the Billy Collins video. How wonderful to hear him reading that poem, the one you bookmarked for me after I had Victor. Thank you so much for that.

Also, thank you for the CaringBridge info. What a sweet little girl. I’m glad to send a card of encouragement.

I’ll put in my guess later–I need time to think about it. I can’t imagine that you’re knitting a grub, even though that’s what it looks like to me. See? I need some more time. (Unless, of course, you are knitting a grub…just remember that I said it first.)

    XO

  14. Oh, No! I just looked through your comments and someone guessed a caterpillar! Well, I’m sticking with grub for now. A very pretty grub.

  15. At this stage in the knitting it could be a very darling Eric Carle character called “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” it’s very colorful. Let’s see–I’m going to guess that it’s some warm fuzzy socks! Am I close? It’s great that you can still blog while traveling because we would all miss you so much!

  16. It’s a piece of flat-knit 1×1 ribbing. ;o)

Honestly, how are we supposed to have any clue from that photo, Anna? lol At least I’m right. Ha!

  17. Is that a circular needle I see? Is it a pair of socks that you’re knitting? The yarn is beautiful! But maybe not socks – they’d be kind of fuzzy between the toes.

  18. I have no idea what it is but when I saw the photo the first thing that popped into my head was, “what a lovely colorful caterpillar!” LOL

  19. I love the colors and since you love making socks I think it a pair of wooly warm socks you can send me so my feet will stay warm when it snows this winter!!

  20. I am not a knitter. I have no idea?! So, I will guess that you are making a magic rainbow hat that can instantly teleport you to any destination that you think of while wearing it. :)

  21. Honestly Anna, I am going to say a fuzzy caterpillar :) I have had like the WORST week ever and am so late in reading blogs and leaving comments. Your post made me laugh because that little piece of knitting REALLY does look like a caterpillar.

  22. Okay, it looks like one of those scarves that you can wear as a normal scarf or open it up and wear it as a cowl neck thingy – is that even understandable? It’s like a long tube… That’s all I’ve got.

  23. I’m going to guess scarf – but I’m not really sure. All I can tell is that it’s scrumptuous yarn on circular needles that isn’t joined to form a ring. Can’t wait to see the finished project! If you like bead-knitted purses, I just put a tutorial up on my blog on how to get started with it.

  24. Well, I have no idea what you are knitting… but thank you for the news of little Ellie (to whom we — all my little ones and I — will write notes today) and for a great poetry link! Have a lovely week, and I can’t wait to see that knitting finished!

  25. whatever it is, it’s going to be gorgeous. i’d go for the scarf cos then it would feel soft against your neck!! :)
and i want a pair of those fingerless gloves that are all the rage, but my knitting abilities are not that good yet ;)

  26. Sweet Cottage Dreams

Hmmmmmm…..let’s see….it could be a scarf or it could be a scarf or it could be a scarf……..or a sweater…or a purse….or a new style Santa Suit! I hear he is tired of wearing red and white!

Whatever it is, it sure looks fuzzy, tickly and softieeeeeeeeeeeee.

    xo
    Becky

  27. I don’t want to look like a copycat here but I think it’s a caterpillar too. It’s the caterpillar of the Pink Banded Knitmoth actually (mothicus fluffiwoolicus).

Either that or it’s a scarf.

    xxx

  28. I honestly don’t have a clue what you are knitting. I’m going to guess a purse. And I have to also admit my first thought was a catepillar. Love the yarn!!

  29. slippers.
    hat.
crap. i have no idea. i don’t know a damn thing ’bout knitting. the hat i made for my neighbor looked like a blind person made it. actually, my blind friend flora was an excellent knitter… so i can’t even say that – it looked like a toddler did it. i’m surprised she ever wore the thing. i’m sure she had another one in her pocket, and she would pull that nasty thing onto her head… smile and wave at me while she was leaving, then grab the *good* hat out of her pocket after she rounded the corner. it’s kinda like wearing that godawful dress your grandmother made over to her house and then ripping it off in the car as soon as you’re down the driveway!

  30. Let me think! I know! You are knitting a bikini! The colours are very summer…
It just can’t be anything else! LOL! Or could it? May be it could happen to be a scarf…? Who knows? (Yes, I know, You know!)

  31. I’m sure I’m too late for the give away, but I thought I’d put in my 2 cents…or should it be 4 cents due to inflation? Anyhoo, I think you are knitting mittens and the fuzzy caterpillar is the wristy part of the mitten. And no, I didn’t look at anyone else’s answers. Can’t you tell? LOL!

  32. My daughter likes to wear these things on her forearms kinda like leg warmers for arms…wrist warmers? or a scarf…wait I think that’s 4 guesses so just delete one of the wrong ones, o.k.? lolol!!

  33. Okay, I get two more guesses – I totally want that wallet!

    Guess #2 is a hat

Guess #3 is a muff for the hands.

That’s the best I’ve got. I’m ready for you to finish up… Thinking that maybe you should get off the computer RIGHT NOW and get back to knitting! :)

  34. Wowie, I missed this. But 70 comments! You are very popular. Well deserved too. The hummingbird is so elegant. We will miss those creatures during the winter months.
