Finally, there’s been a little project finishing here in ThimbleannaLand. I managed to sneak in some crochet time last weekend and finished the fun rainbow stripe bag from Attic 24.
While was working on the stripes for the body of the bag, I really didn’t like the way the colors were stacking up. Even up to the top of the bag I was a little worried. But, the scalloped edge seemed to pull it all together and now I love it.
The pattern is very easy to follow and it was pretty darn fun to work on. It’s a perfect pattern for tv watching, as it doesn’t require much concentration. It’s fun to have a bag now to carry my balls of yarn — while I was working on the bag, the yarn was just in a big ol’ plastic bag.
So, blowing kisses and a big fat Thank You to my Brilliant Invisible Friend who selected all the yarns and sent them to me in a swap.
In other news, we had a bit of excitement around here the other night. TheManoftheHouse happened to glance out the window and he scared me when he said “Holy Cow! There’s a turkey in the backyard!”. I jumped up, grabbed my camera and rushed outside to take pictures of not 1, but 4 turkeys. After 3 or 4 shots, I realized I didn’t have a memory card in my camera. Doh! I rushed inside, grabbed a card and ran back outside. By which time, the turkeys were two houses away — so … sorry for the blurry shot.
In all the years and houses we’ve lived in here, we’ve never had the fun of seeing wild turkeys. They aren’t cute like deer or furry animals, but it was still exciting!
Oh! And have you seen the “new Pips”? Aneela has shown a sneak peak of her new fabric line and it’s adorable. And here’s a little Pip Tip (ha!) — I don’t want to cause a stampede or anything, but if you see Pips and you think you want them, you should probably get them. It used to be that you could find quilt fabrics for years after their debut, but now, they don’t seem to last very long and that drives me crazy. I don’t think the hype was intentional in this case though (or I should say, more intentional than normal) — I just think someone seriously underestimated how well-loved the Pips were going to be!
XOXO,
Anna
I love everything about your knew knitting bag! So cute. A week or so ago, two turkeys were standing in the middle of the road as I was going out to do visiting teaching. Standing there as if they had not a care in the world or, a death wish. I guess it was that first because they finally sauntered off across the street. I did snap a terrible photo of them with my phone but, I don’t know how to get it out of my phone.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Pips, but I’m thinking little apples is going to end up in my sewing room. Anything with a little girl reading a book…..:)
That bag is wonderful.. just love the colors and buttons! I enjoyed your photo scavanger hunt.
your rainbow striped bag is a WINNER…truly!!
love the flowers that grace the handles…
it’s fun & cheery…just as you are thimbleanna!!
So true about buying fabric when you see it. I made a quilt top for my daughter using the Dr. Seuss fabric. Some of the ladies at my LQS recommended that I wait for the Dr. Seuss flannel for the quilt back. Which I did and when I bought my 4 yards the day after the fabric arrived in the LQS – there wasn’t much left on the bolt.
Hey Anna,
Have you ever heard of this? It’s a random stripe generator. I remember reading it on Alicia’s blog “Posie Gets Cozy” a few years ago.

What a great bag! love it. I picked up the crochet hook the other night and then proceeded to do nothing with it…must try again. Nice turkeys neighbors, too.
I really love your bag…just darling! And it was fun to see your turkeys. Around here we have raccoons roaming the neighborhood.
Your striped bag looks great. I didn’t know you crocheted. That Lucy is amazing.
I love wild turkeys and think they have a look of elegance about them. How fun to have them in your yard. I can relate to the memory card thing … something similar happened to me recently and the bird got away.
What a lovely bag – I must work on learning crochet. We don’t have anything as exciting as wild turkeys here – just little garden birds and squirrels.
Alison
I love the crochet, I LOVE the Pips too- and, swoon, have you seen her sneak peak of the new range. It has apples, hooray. I have seen some of that pips, I might just descretely sneek over and bag it! Hopefully I will arrive before the stampede!
Oh thanks Anna, now I “want” more fabric, plus I enjoyed looking through Aneela’s blog! Love your crochet bag, it’s perfect for the yarn. We actually had a bald eagle in our woods a week ago,but I had camera trouble too, great job getting that pic!!!
Anna that bag is wonderful! A perfect yarn bag! Great job getting the picture of the turkeys.
What a cute bag! The scalloped top definitely makes it.
Isn’t it exciting when you see wildlife like that? I’m glad they didn’t go away too fast for you to get a picture.
I fell in love with that bag when I saw it over on Lucy’s blog. Very nice and the scalloped edge does finish it off nicely.
I wish I knitted or crocheted so I could have a groovy stripe bag like you! It’s so stinking cute!!! Turkeys! That’s cool!
Jody
Can anybody get enough of all that juicy color in your new bag? I can’t. I have been to Attic 24 before, and her color combinations are always spot on. You did a great job. One doesn’t realize just how long that plastic bag has been kicking around until you replace it. Carolina
Love your new bag…very trendy! I wish my hands would let me crochet!!
you have them too! my dad keeps saying he has turkeys! of course he doesnt own a camera, so he can’t prove it! :) geez, they are ugly little fellas, arn’t they?
are you trying to tell me that Moda didnt ‘make’ enough Pips to be around long?
very nice bag Anna , I put that on my list of things to do yonks ago and it’s something else I’ve just never gotten around too. Love your Turkeys wow and those pips .. just how gorgeous are those apple trees mmmmm
What great bag!
really love the flowerettes – such a nice touch.
What a gorgeous bag! It’s so happy! Nice job!
MGM
How cool is that! Turkeys. Wow. Like I said, I just never know what I’ll see when I open one of your posts! LOL And I love the crocheted bag. It is lovely.
I love your crochet bag! We don’t have wild turkeys here – just the farmed ones for Christmas dinner!
now THAT’s a bag i could love!!! and your yarn looks lovely in it … it is a good thing, having a bag for your balls (long pause … snicker … snort) of yarn
Your bag is beautiful – the colours are so happy! Lucy xxx
We had some turkeys cross in front of the house. The cat happened to be looking out the window and he had no idea what to think!
I love your crocheted bag! So so much better than a plastic one.
I hadn’t seen Aneela’s new line. But oh, mylanta! It’s stinking adorable!
I also hate how quickly the fabric is gone. Drives. Me. Batty. I bought bliss red and white dots right away, and it turns out it was a good thing. It’s like they vanished into thin air. Why do they do it?!!
It’s a great bag! My DD made one for a friend using Lucy’ pattern and her BFF’s color choice, but we fell in love with the bright rainbow of colors~

~ yours is beautiful!
:-}pokey
Your crochet bag is fantastic, love the bright colors. Aneela’s Pips are so stickin cute, why oh why do these cute fabrics come out just when I thought I should cut back on purchases and stitch up the fabric I already own. Have you seen my stash? :)
What a lovely colourful bag you’ve made! Just right for Springtime. I don’t think I have ever seen wild turkeys; what fun to have them in your own backyard.
Your bag is beautiful! I love the bright colors, very cheerful and fun. I need to put that on my wish list of things to make. :)
We get a lot (and I mean A LOT) of wild turkeys in our yard too. They’re fun to watch, but guard your bird feeders! LOL
Oh your bag turned out perfect. I LOVE, love mine. Wonderful for carrying knitting projects!! Clarice
Wild turkeys – goodness. I wonder how big they are?
Great bag! The flowers are the perfect addition.
Turkeys aren’t cute, but they are wildlife, and in your backyard too. I’d say that’s exciting! Didn’t Benjamin Franklin want the turkey to be our national bird? Ha, ha.
Ha, ha, I agree that my little grandniece has a Victorian Beckham pout!
That bag looks just the job for keeping your yarn in and so cheerful too.
You know that I love bags. LOVE THEM…this is so so so adorable….it makes me drool. Seriously. Love it. And that scallop…oh so cute. The buttons. The flowers. Perfection.
That turned out so well. I love that bag. I keep thinking I should make a lining for mine because stuff slips out of it between the crochet. I am not a sewer so I need to figure that one out. I love the colors you chose and they did come together nicely. I agree that scalloped top is absolutely the finishing touch. I found that on mine as well – once I finished that edge the whole thing came together.
That bag is FABULOUS, do you know I have one half finished in my sewing room. I felt the same about my stripes, so maybe I should just finish it and I’ll love mine too. I’ll have to remember to blog it when I’m done.
Love that bag, Anna!! We have wild turkeys here all the time. We usually have 4 hens and all their babies. We could have up to 20 turkeys around here. The babies are ADORABLE but I never can get a good picture of them.
Love the bag, Anna!
I made the same yarn bag and I love yours as much as mine, it makes me feel like a knitter. The cute flowers made it for me. You just attract critters at your place.
So sorry about your red fabric, but it looks like a pretty color anyway. Cute lil chubby bunny.
It’s darling! I love a simple project like that and it’s perfect for Spring.
I remember as a kid my Dad coming home and saying he saw a turkey. I still don’t believe him. ;)
What?? How cute is that!? AWESOME. The stuff you get done is impressive.
Bliss is adorable. I can’t wait to see if finished. I have a thing for small fabric patchworks, love them!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the bag!
