Inspiration

I’ve been thinking about Inspiration a lot lately. Especially as it gets closer to the holidays. There’s inspiration everywhere you turn in blogland and I know it will only intensify as Christmas approaches. A few links I enjoyed today:

  • Old School Acres is making yoyos. I know they’ve been around but I never get tired of them and I haven’t had a chance to make any yet.
  • Sarah pointed out an old how-to link for making bottle brush trees in different colors. Very cool.
  • And Karen Russell was just extra inspiring to me today. I loved what she had to say about “Lasts”.

So, in a pay-it-forward sort of way, I humbly offer my brand of inspiration:

Last night I made my Lazy Day Overnight Lasagne. It’s easy-peasy — made the day ahead and you don’t have to cook the regular lasagne noodles — they soften from the moisture in the meat sauce. After you assemble the layers, you let it cool, then refrigerate it until the next night, when you sprinkle it with lots of cheese and pop it in the oven. Here it is, right before it goes into the refrigerator:

Lasagne

The inspiration?

  • I hope to inspire you to plan your meals to make mealtime on hectic nights much easier.
  • I hope to inspire you to make homemade, aka, cook from scratch.
  • I REALLY hope to inspire you to remember to put the lasagne into the refrigerator before you go to bed so it doesn’t sit out on the counter all night.

Smooth Move, ExLax!

  1. OH ANNA – what a freakin shame. It looked YUMMO sister. But can I say that I’m thankful that I’m not the only one things like that happen to. It’s nice to know I don’t walk alone, LOL. Hope you went out for pizza tonight rather than make another dinner.

  2. Sarah’s trees were on my mind all day. I’m in search of them now. And my fav part, the dumping of the lasagna. How many times I have I done that?

  3. My mom used to make a lasagne like that. That is, until I introduced them to the yummiest lasagne ever. I’ll have to share the recipe with you sometime (it’s not exactly a weeknight dinner though – kind of an all day event!). For weeknight dinners, this is the way to go.

  4. Oh NO! Don’t worry it happens to the best of us. I once set about making home made spaghetti sauce which has ground beef and pork in it and didn’t realize til the whole thing was made that one of the 2 meats (think it was the pork) was off…BIG time. It wasn’t til my husband got home from work and mentioned the stench as he walked in through the door that I twigged there was a problem. One tiny taste and I realized that we’d be going to McD’s for dinner.

  5. Smooth move ex-lax?!?!?! I thought we were the only family still using that term! ;-) The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. I don’t know if that’s right. It’s still too early for me to remember any quotes – check back later in the day! If it’s right, then it’s appropriate. I’m always doing stuff like that. Oh well! Loved the link to “lasts”. It made me sad, but made me realize to cherish it all!

  6. I’m glad to have inspired you!

Are you willing to share your lasagna recipe? I can’t promise that I won’t leave it out overnight, but I’ll try! LOL

  7. I’m a little late catching up, love the idea of you all being Sharon! Those bottle brush trees sure bring back memories, I might just make some! And, darn it about the lasagna! you must be busy?

  8. OH NOoooooooooooooooooooo! I would so do something just like that. Or I’d put it all together and forget a crucial ingredient, like the noodles and then have to either go digging through there to put them in or just come up with a different name for dinner.

Like, I don’t know, Hamburger Casserole.

    See, I’ve done this before…

  9. *sigh* I have done this before too.. or left something out (like the lasagna sheets) or even used sugar instead of salt.. *sigh* or vice versa.. I guess I learned to cook from my mum who names every dish ‘suprise lasagne’ or ‘suprise bolagnaise’.. the surprise is if it is edible!

  10. It is to funny we both made it on the same night. My probably could have baked a tad longer, Certainly edible. Sosorry about your’s Anna Lou

  11. OH MY LANDS! Soul Sisters we are! Totally something I would do. I feel your pain….so fast food it was for dinner?

Thanks much for visiting my new blog…gotta love Brenda (Acorn Quilt & Gift Company), she’s always workin’ it!

Talk to you soon…I can tell you will keep me laughing!

  12. Well, I’m happy to see that I am not the only one that has left a dish of food out overnight. What was worse was the feeling I had as I thew it into the trash. So, what did you end up serving for dinner in place of the lasagne? I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing with you.

  13. Oh man! I have done things like that before. I must admit that it makes me feel a little bit better to know that I am not the only one – sorry.

  14. This madde me feel better, last night I fell asleep with the children, I got up and put the alarm on and went to my own bed…leaving…freshly made soup for a girls get together lunch tomorrow and some baked nibbles…all uncovered on my kitchen unit…in a hot kitchen…Mmmm my bin is full now!!! Pleased I am not the only one…

  15. I’m so sorry, Anna! That’s something I would do! Don’t you hate brain fart moments like that? Or should I have said brain ‘freeze’ – you get the idea!
I do love the thought of making lasagne the night before – I’ll have to try it. I’ll remember what you said about remembering to put it in the fridge overnight!
Love the bottle brush tree idea – how clever! The yo-yos are so cute, too, and the post about “Lasts” was lovely. Thanks for sharing!
