Thimbleanna

Liberty Bracelets

Gosh. I’m sorry it’s been so boring around here. All work and no play makes Thimbleanna a very dull girl. Sadly, that’s all it is around here though — work, work, work. Work at work and then work at home. I listened to the Marie Kondo book on tape (The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up) a few months ago and I’ve been trying to clean up a little around here. It was an interesting book and I talked back to the tape a lot — half the time I was saying “Great Idea”, and the other half of the time I was saying “You’re out of your mind!”. I’d love to be able to live as simply as she does, but it’s just not going to happen. For one thing, I’m a fabric hoarder. And, somehow, I just don’t see myself talking to my clothes and shoes at the end of each day. If I had more time to pause and actually talk to them, maybe … but for now, life is too busy.  Anyway, it’s going to take a loooong time to get through the closets and drawers around here.  Maybe after Christmas I’ll start back up and take it a little at a time.  Or not, LOL.

In between finally finishing up the 3-week cleanout of our jumbo bookcases in the basement, I took a little one hour break this weekend and made a few Liberty bracelets. I’ve been wanting to try this project for a long time. I raided my little charm stash for charms for the bracelets.

A Thimble (of course!):

And “Be Kind”:

I experimented with a little wider ribbon and just once around the wrist vs. thinner and twice around the wrist.  I think I like the twice around the wrist version the best.

Anyway, they’re quick and fun and I think they’d make cute gifts for the ladies in your life.  This video was very helpful.  And I still have plenty of fabric and trinkets to make more!

Ok, off to bed for me. Are you US girls all ready for your big cooking week? Ours is going to be a little different this year and I’m a little sad I won’t be doing my usual pie making. I’ll explain when it’s all over – Good Luck with YOUR prep.

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Cute! And this maybe just the trinket for me to stick in my friendship groups gift bags…I have been playing with the cute Sweet pea pouches Joan Hawley came up with and have been thinking of what to tuck inside besides obvious candy or Clover wonder clips! Hope all is well, and the holiday is full of fun, food and family…looking forward to hearing about pie less though!

  2. I love these – I love them enough to cut up some of my precious Liberty fabrics, and I know I have lots of charms in my stash!

  3. Pretty bracelets! I agree that book is simultaneously brilliant and ridiculous! She has some ah-ha statements but then tells you not to ball your socks because it’s painful and disrespectful to them…whaaa?? She is good though as that book has made me dig in and clean out where nothing else has. I am with you on the speed though, it’s a slow go. Making traditional pumpkin pie here. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. don’t have the book – I think it would be one more thing to clutter the house :) as soon as my new bedroom furniture gets here I will clean up the bedroom and organize because I will have to!

  5. I love your bracelets! Haven’t heard of them before but as with everything you do, they are adorable. I am making mini individual (in muffin tins) pies this year seeing it is just the two of us and I am not a pie maker. I think the only reason I was able to work my way through the entire Konmari process is because I retired and had the time. I do love it now that I’ve accomplished it. I agree that half her ideas are just funny (not talking to my shoes!) but adjusting the process to fit our own needs is great! I wish you a wonderful (if pie less) Thanksgiving!!!

  6. Continued…. I forgot to add, Marie Kondo is not getting anywhere near my sewing room either! I organized, but kept most of it. Keep out! ;o)

  7. Snap! I just listen to Marie Kondo’s book too and like you I can’t say it’s for me. I’m not a minimalist sort of gal. Your bracelets on the other hand are fab and will make super stocking filler.

  8. Your bracelets are so pretty, I love the little charms you add. That sounds like an interesting book, I’ve never tried talking to my clothes, though my fabric stash often bosses me around. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Maybe you could make a pie anyway?

  9. Hi Anna, love the little charms (and the thread too). Little time for reading right now in the midst of holiday stuff. Hope all is well on your end.

The knitted cap and sweater in your earlier post is adorable too.

Just a quick note to say happy holidays!

  10. Cute bracelets! I like the twice around too. Sorry you aren’t making your pies. Is someone else bringing a fine dessert then? For me, it just has to be pie. But I’m old-fashioned that way.

  11. What cute bracelets! The charms are so sweet.
I ordered that book for myself for Christmas – I wonder how I’ll do with all my storage areas. I know I have too much stuff – I may try some consignment don’t know yet.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving

  12. Oh, I talk to myself all the time so possibly my shoes listen.

Sorry you’re so busy. I went into town today and bought some brushed cotton to back the quilt I haven’t made yet (but I wanted to buy the brushed cotton before it was all gone, in the summer, when I might just have finished the quilt). So that’s progress… of a sort.

Hope things calm down for you. xx
