New Socks

If you can believe it.  It’s been SO long since any knitting has happened on this little blog — what a sad state of affairs.  I finally finished the socks that I’ve been working on  forever.

Blue and Brown Stripe Socks

The yarn is the Lorna’s Laces custom dye that I picked up at Cami’s shop (sadly no longer in business) a few years ago.  The pattern is the Mockery Sock free download.  I’ve used this pattern before and I love it.

Blue and Brown Stripe Socks

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Lorna’s Laces yarn.  It’s VERY comfy and it wears and washes like a dream, but I always have problems with pooling.  The pooling in these socks wasn’t too bad — except for the area where the sock gussets were being created.  That’s the area where the skinny brown and white stripes are on top of my foot.  Otherwise, I love the way this yarn played out.

Don’t ask me what the heck I did to those heel flaps.  I did half of the flaps and then the socks matured in my stash for a few months.  When I picked them back up, I though I was doing a different heel pattern.  I was too lazy to rip them back and fix it.  It’s a little easier to see the mistake in the first picture.    Anyway, it’s nice to have them done and dusted.  They’re really cozy and I know I”ll get lots of wear out of them.

Blue and Brown Stripe Socks

Sorry for the absence this week.  It seems like lots of things have been breaking and needing attention around here (to include this happy little blog — she suffered a few fainting spells earlier in the week.)  I’ll make it up to you this coming week though — Tuesday is Randi’s Recipe Box Swap and on Wednesday, I’ll be participating in Pat Sloan’s Aurifil Blog Hop.  There will be prizes.  Should be fun!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Anna, they are gorgeous. I absolutely love that blue. As for knitting, there nothing of the sort happening here. Finishing my Org. Psychology course this weekend, and starting World Mythology (can you believe how cheesy that is – I need at least one humanities course) next week. But at the end of March I am off the wonderful Vancouver Island to visit the parental units.

  2. three cheers for your n ew header…you must have lots of shade…all the snow has melted around us…stopped at the new fabric shop today in roanoke. very nice place, huh?

  3. Can’t wait, Aurifil is the bomb in my sewing room! Hope your having good weather, it has been raining here in northern California all week… I guess we need it and it is winter….

  4. Beautiful! I’m glad you finished them – they are too pretty to be sitting unfinished somewhere. They need to be seen!

  5. First, your header, oh, my, love. it. Now on to your socks, great color and look perfectly wonderful to me. You lost me big time on the flaps and pools. They look so comfy. Sorry to hear that Cami’s shop is no more.

  6. well ms. anna…you have re-opened a “new world” for me…
in a former life, i used to knit & sew… all the time…through your grand blog & oh so interesting links… i am seeing the “yarn & fabric world” in a different light (older, wiser me?!) & thoroughly enjoying & tempted to re-aquaint myself with “purling” & “bobbins”…but i will need a hester!!
your socks are great & i love the yarn!

  7. oooo!! pretty sockies!!! don’t let your little header guy steal them away from you – he’s gonna have really, really cold toes from those steel-toed boots he’s wearing…

Aurifil is the ONLY thread that Sven Batrastardson will accept – he throws up anything else. i like it, too.

  8. You are multi-talented! Your socks are beautiful. They kind of remind me of the ones I’m working on. I know what you mean about Lornas Laces and pooling. I always figured it was must me, ha, ha.

  9. LOL at the header, you’re so funny. Maybe I should try to knit a pair of socks, they look amazing to me. I don’t even know what pooloing is.

  10. LOL at the header, you’re so funny. Maybe I should try to knit a pair of socks, they look amazing to me. I don’t even know what pooling is.

  11. Snowmelt 2011! Count me in!! lol Love the new header. You crack me up. lol

Love the socks too. Thanks for sharing the pattern link. I think I’m going to give it a try.

  12. They are unique and they are yours and I love them! The socks look so comfy. LOVE the header. that’s what we have going on over here too. It’s awful.

  13. lovely socks. just lovely.
your header is great. thanks for the laugh. and aren’t you glad you hung onto that china german shepherd for just a cause?

  14. Poor little German Shepherd has to wear bobbins in the snow. Can’t you knit him something pretty for his feet? ;0

  15. They’re gorgeous, love the colors! I haven’t knit with Lorna’s Laces yet, don’t think I have any in my yarn stash. I’ll have to go shopping!

  16. I love your socks! The yarn is beautiful and that pattern is very cool. Now I feel guilty about that one lone sock I knit … it really needs a partner.

  19. LOVE those socks sister – but dang your new header is a hoot – how do you come up with these things, lol. Anyway those socks are adorable and love the colors. hey can’t wait to see what you’ve got up your sleeve for Wednesday :).

  20. I think those are one of my favorites I’ve seen made! Great job. I’ll be thinking of these when I put on a pair of mine with a hole in the toe. :)

  21. Beautiful! You sure have knitted socks down to a T. If they were for sale….I would buy some (hint, hint) luv them

  22. Love your new Header!! This one is really creative! So clever!!

The socks are adorable! Love the colors, the yarn, the stitches… everything!! How may pair have you knit in your lifetime?? You must have drawers full.

    Snowy hugs!!

  23. Ah, cuteness – new socks. I really should knit some more socks. Ones that look totally wearable like those. For some reason mine always knit up too loose and feel all annoying when I wear them with shoes.

Meanwhile, I haven’t knit in so long that when I recently scrounged up a project, I actually decided on a scarf.

Because apparently my mind can’t fathom anything more complicated than stockinette for one million boring rows.

  24. Your socks look lovely but what is pooling? I was just reading it on another blog a few minutes ago and although I’ve heard of it before I’ve never really known what it meant! Lucy xxx
    P.S. Love your new header!!!

  25. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the socks. I have always wanted to learn to knit so I can make socks. I am *gasp* a crochetter and want to knit. I am still mourning the loss of Clementines as well. There are not any good fabric shops around me anymore. They closed down the quilt place in Carmel too off 31. :(

  26. Very nice socks!!!! I know what you mean about the Lorna’s and pooling – and I really am not a fan of pooling. But your socks look great! Sorry to hear that shop is no more, it sounded so neat.
