Not Much Happ’nin Here

Ooops!  It seems like Chookyblue and I confused a few of you with the virtual visit!  Just to be clear — she’s not REALLY coming to visit — she just wanted to know what it was like at some of her blog friends’ if she WERE to visit!  Sorry!

How’s your week coming along?  I’m SO happy it’s almost the weekend again.  Although, after last weekend, I should probably rest up to prepare for this weekend.  The wedding quilt tried. to. kill. me.  I worked ALL day on Saturday (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and got the top put together.

Basted Quilt

I made a terrible mistake on two of the borders because I got tired and I was too lazy to measure.  Bad Lazy Girl!  I’m hoping the quilting will cover it up and not make it worse.  On Sunday, I went to MeMum and BigDaddy’s and they helped me get it all pin-basted.  MeMum has a basting frame, but it’s not quite big enough.  This quilt is currently around 98″ x 114″.  Ouch. I’d love to show you the top, but as I’ve mentioned, SweetiePie doesn’t want to see it again until it’s finished.  Hopefully soon!

Have you seen this adorable project? I’ve been following Amy as her squares unfold and I’d love to join in. I might do this later — for now, I’ve vowed not to start anything new until the wedding quilt is done. (Except for the pillowcases, of course!) I’ve foolishly decided to try the quilting myself — here’s the schedule:

This weekend:  Machine Quilt.
Next weekend: Unpick the mess I’ve made.
The last weekend in March: Send it off to a machine quilter.

So if you need me this weekend, you know where I’ll be.  Don’t worry, I’m armed with a good vocabulary of swear words.

XOXO,
Anna

  1. How about that weather we had today?! If only it would stay around longer. Oh well there is hope for spring. Have fun sewing this weekend. I get to go to KY for a volleyball tourney. (Shhhh, also some quilt shoppes :-) )

  2. Machine quilting something that size yourself you’ll need to be armed with more than swear words. My advice would be to skip weeks one and two and go straight to week three and satisfaction!
    Those pillows sound like fun….

  3. Not much sewing happening around here either with all our wedding plans and working but, I did manage to make 4 of the 5 pillowcases I’m going to be crocheting. Two pillowcases are for the bridal shower that will match the wedding quilt I’m working on. It’s not going to be quite as big as yours. Something more like a cuddle up and watch tv kind of quilt. I’ll be showing them in the next few days after I finish making the last one. I look forward to seeing your pillowcase too.

  4. Good luck with the quilting dear Anna …. looking forward to seeing it all finished and gawjus!!!
    Hugs,
    Joy ;o)

  5. Oh my, good luck with the quilting – you’re far braver than I am. Mind you, I thnk a quilt that size would kill my machine. And probably me.

  6. I’m loving the timeline…..wonder if there is a way to speed up the process….only quilting half yourself before deciding if it’s any good? ( I am sure it will be). My weekend will involve knitting group and some garden destruction!

  7. Oh enjoy the swear words, I mean, quilting!!! I know a few good ones should you need a new one! I have long given up machine quilting, thats why god invented clever people’s and gammil’s!!!

    Lissapoo

  8. I have to say quilting a quilt that size is what drove me to get a long arm! You are one brave lady!! Looking forward to seeing the whole thing.

  9. It’s been fun catching up on your blog Anna…Those brownies in a few posts back look awesome.

I love, love the colors. I can’t wait to see the whole quilt, I know it’s going to look great when it’s all done.

  10. wow, you’ve got quite a project on your hands with quilting that big quilt. The only advise I can give is to take your time and not to rush it. That’s normally my problem ;). Good luck. Vreni

  11. Yikes, I hate that fixin’ part too. I look forward to seeing the quilt when you post it! Happy stitching … or not … as the case may be. ;^)

  12. Yikes! That is a big quilt to manhandle through a regular machine. I hope it will be a nice sunny weekend so you have good light for doing it. Also, I hope you have a massage scheduled for immediately after you are done!

  13. It’s going to be fun seeing the final results of your marathon wedding quilt project. I have been reading about the tiny squares project but, like you, I’m not taking on any more projects not already on my to-do list or I’ll go simply mad, mad, mad. The pillowcase project you referred to is already on my list.

  14. LOL! I think I swear more when I’m quilting than any other time throughout my days…

Try to have fun quilting! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

    Jennifer :)

  15. Goodluck with your busy weekend! Hope the bad words are not needed. When do you get to take your trip (virtual?) I loved the trip you described!

  16. I usually measure my success by how many expletives slip out while I’m working. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Can’t wait to see it.

  17. Hope the quilting goes smoothly Anna – can’t wait to see the finished quilt! I hope you have plenty of chocolate on hand for the task.

  18. Oh boy Anna, that is one huge quilt (to be quilting yourself)! I can’t wait to see it finished. Not much happening here either :o) Have fun! toni xxx

  19. Man oh man that is what big quilt – I have spray basted a quilt that size and it was not too bad to quilt but I was only meandering it by machine. The final size of the wonky tiles quilt that I finished for our friends was 115 X 124 inches It was good that it was not any larger because it was almost touching the floor everywhere. When I was trying to figure out how big to make a king sized quilt,it was suggested to me that it should be 130 inches square. That would have been way too big. It does depend on the depth of the new deep mattresses but it also depends on how far it is off the floor. I quilted it on my Babylock without too much difficulty.
Happy quilting- I am sure that the quilt will be a beauty.
    Regards,
    Anna

  20. molly had the right idea. skip weeks one and two. she usually does, except that one time when she wanted someone to kick me in the butt, that was a bad idea, the worst one she’s ever had!
love the 39 squares! but i’m 47, so i’d need 47 squares… geeze louise… i’ll have to think on that one, save it for when i’m done with all this OTHER stuff!!
can’t wait to see the quilt. just tell SP not to look at the blog and show us anyway.
    :waves madly

  21. Donna’s not really coming but I AM!! :-) Well I hope to.
Sorry you’ve made a mess of the quilt. lol I’m sure you’ll fix it and it will be good as new.

  22. Oooh! I can almost feel that tight feeling in the back of my neck thinking about you quilting all day long. You do beautiful work though, so it’s worth it. I suppose you made the quilt on the beds in your guest room. They look soooo cozy. Count me in for a virtual visit too, ha, ha.

  23. Well this is probably a mean thing to say, but I am soo glad to hear you make mistakes. Because your work, always looks soo perfect to me xoxox Clarice

  24. Good luck machine quilting this big honkin’ wedding quilt! I wish I was closer so I could spend the weekend bringing you refreshments and cheering you on. “Go Anna Go! Go Anna Go!” Of course enough of my cheering and you might throw the refreshments at me… oh well, Go Anna Go!! x

  25. Thinking the bestest of thoughts for you..but I know that quilt will so wonderfull. Looking forward to seeing it completed! Happy busy weekend to you.

  26. You sucked me into that adorable 39 squares project, ya know. You’re trying to distract me, I know it. You’re up to something and I’m on to you!!!

  27. Hi Anna, I love the embroidery project…sew pretty. Good luck with the big quilt, sometimes swearing helps, I usually get my swears out when the weed eater won’t start!

  28. You are very brave to tackle such a ginormous quilt!! I think 80 x 80 is about my limit…and even that I don’t think I’ll do again lol, what a nightmare! Unless you just do straight lines then it should be o.k. but still wow! I wish you the best of luck…it would be horrible to have to pick it out…oh wait your hubby does that right? lolol! I can’t wait to see this beauty!!

  29. Loved the virtual tour.

Sometimes “not much happenin” is a real blessing from the good Lord above!

  30. Wowza! I empathise with you. That’s the exact same reason I keep putting off our bed quilt project. It’ll eat up so much time (and floor space) that I don’t have. Not to mention that any mistakes are usually just as huge. Ack! Good luck!

  31. Goodness, what a project! I am dying to see the finished product. I hate making mistakes in anything. I have been known to abandon projects just because I made a mistake and as a result I now hate the project.

  32. Don’t dwell on your mistakes – others will never notice! Trust me. I completely screwed up on a memory quilt I was making for a friend and ended up making the binding out of what was suppose to be the outer sashing – I improvised and my friend loves the quilt – she never knew I screwed up! (Opps, I hope she doesn’t read your blog!)

If I knew how to attach a picture I’d send one, the quilt came out beautiful anyway.
    Happy Sewing, Suzie

  33. Anna, I still love to look at your blog. They’re so interesting. I love the browns in the quilt you’re making. I have to learn to get back into blogging again. Tracey

  34. Anna,
I’ve only been reading your blog since November. I have LOVED all of your headers…candy canes were my favorite, but the PEEPS…too cute!!
    You’re so creative!
