Photo Scavenger Hunt: August

I’m blaming all the kitchen work this summer for the fact that I missed the July Scavenger Hunt. For awhile, I was just going to post it late, but I finally decided to throw in the towel and skip right to the August Scavenger Hunt.  Thanks to Kathy, as always, for hosting.  When I first saw this list I was afraid I was going to have a hard time, but the trip to see the kids last weekend saved my hide!

A Boat.  On the canal in Indianapolis.  See?  I told you it was like Venice!

Photo Challenge

A Festival or Fair.  This year’s ill-fated Indiana State Fair.

Photo Challenge

A Fountain.  I had a shot of a fountain along the canal, but on the bike ride back home, SweetiePie pointed out this cute little elephant fountain in someone’s beautiful garden.

Photo Challenge

A Picnic.  We had a late breakfast before our bike ride, so we just had a snack picnic.  Cracker Jacks mandatory.

Photo Challenge

A Sport.  Hey. Knitting is TOO a sport!

Photo Challenge

Bread.  I bought those thin bagels to try with the Biscoff spread last week and they were awful.  I put them in the trees for the squirrels to munch on.

Photo Challenge

Fabric.  Something we have lots of around here.  I thought this pile of scraps from The Children were very appropriate since their arrival this month caused such excitement here in ThimbleannaLand.

Photo Challenge

A Market.  Fresh.

Photo Challenge

Mountains.  Oh please.  We’re not the flat-as-a-pancake plain states, but we might as well be.  I thought about cheating and using one of my mountain pictures from Spring Market, but I try to take the pictures during the specified month.  So, how ’bout mountains of buttons?  This was the cute display in Crimson Tate, the cute new quilt shop in Indianapolis.  I love that they’re in a gumball machine!

Photo Challenge

Something Ancient.  I think we’re too new of a country to have anything that I’d consider really ancient.  But I thought this old coca cola bottling company building across the street from Crimson Tate looked pretty cool.

Photo Challenge

Something Bizarre.  This is three pictures of the same sign on Mass Ave. in Indianapolis.  We call her the Sexy Lady.  She’s constantly moving and she dances back and forth, back and forth, all day and night long.  She looks pretty cool at night.

Photo Challenge

Street Food.  An ice cream vendor along the canal.  (Taken by SweetiePie — thanks SweetiePie!)

So, that’s it.  I’m SO ready for the weekend.  We’ve had a terribly stressful week at work.  We had layoffs again this week and one of my favorite friends got hit.  We’ll just say there were tears today as he said his goodbyes.  Our former pod of seven is now down to three.  When our little twin mother is out on maternity leave, the other remaining guy and I are going to put up tiki torches and see who gets voted off the island next.  (Sorry, all we have left is stupid jokes.  Stupid layoffs.)

Have a great weekend — and in the US, a Long Weekend — Yipee!!!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. No comments yet?? I’ve never seen your blog without 20 more comments on it, ha, ha. Your canal “adventure” “sounded like fun. I want that elephant fountain, and while I’m wishing, I’ll take the entire garden.

  2. Of course knitting is a sport! My teen daughter can’t do sports at school because she is in all the drama productions (practices conflict). So she and her drama friends refer to themselves as Varsity Drama.

  3. Love the photos….I think my favorite is the coca cola plant. Or maybe it its the fabric (i just ordered a pile of that an hour ago..I resisted for weeks but in the end it kept calling me) Sorry about the layoffs, I’m in aerospace, its not much fun there either these days and you have to have a sense of humor about it or its even more unbearable.

  4. Lovely photos; my favorite being the bagels in the tree. Makes me laugh. Sorry to hear about the situation at your work. Stupid layoffs indeed.

  5. Good spot for the bagels- I didn’t like them either!
My favorite photo is the gum ball/button machine !
    Enjoy the long weekend!

  7. I was wondering if you and Jane bailed on me so I had to come and see if you posted your pics. I did on the group site, not on my blog yet. I had to cheat this month!! Ooh I hate that. I think you need to take a time-lapse picture of your dancing girl signs at night! :D

  8. Enjoyed the pictures and had a laugh at your bagles. I bought them too and got rid of them in short order. On your recommendation I tried the biscoff cookies and spread….yummy! I am putting the spread on my morning bagel (reg size) and loving every bite.

  9. oooops Mr. Farmhouse digs those bagels, lol – I haven’t tried them yet. Love your pictures for your hunt. what I really like is how you look at something different when your looking for something in particular – and yes I do believe that knitting is a sport just like sewing :). Those dancing girls – way cool. Need to find that spread – I know I can’t have Nutella in the house – my hips scream for it – this new spread your talking about – probably the same. Your such an influence, lol. I’m so sorry about the layoffs – such a tough time.

    Hugs – Mrs. Farmhouse

  10. Lovely pics Anna and what a great idea for those buttons and yeah, of course knitting is a sport ( shakes head and mutters why didn’t I think of that one )

  11. Love the photos. I’m so sorry about the continued lay-offs. So glad it wasn’t you. But it is so hard on everyone. I feel for you. Dave starts a new job next week with the state. Better hours, and a pension. We’ll see. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  12. those socks are pretty darn cute!…just getting back to speed from the lovely :( :( irene…just got internet back! :)
need to play catch up on your posts…try to enjoy the w/e…so sorry about your colleagues.

  13. Love this batch of photos. I was looking for something familiar and you posted Timp.
Hope the layoff stop soon. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you.

  14. Never been to Indianapolis… (only to Indiana State Univ. for a week with a friend… way back then!)… but it looks like a very nice city!

  15. I feel your pain. Lay-offs SUCK. I feel for each and every family. :(

The photos were a sign…you should go visit more often. Tell hubby and kitties that the ‘photo scavenger’ hunt has very strict rules…AND you signed a contract to obey them. If your tiki torch is going to be ‘put out’ it is NOT going to happen because you cheated! ;0

Try to have a good weekend…remember: Stay calm and steal the pink jeep!

  16. oh anna banana. i’m so sorry that your friend at work got the axe. love your pics and those buttons in the gumball machine are fantastic. indi looks cool, i may have to visit some day before i die. love the socks you are knitting. 6 1/2 ish. hope tomorrow is better. i think there must be some food therapy involved. i’ll wait to see on monday what you cooked up for me tomorrow!
    :waves madly

  17. Great photos as usual, Anna! The bagel pic cracked me up. I actually eat those thin ones all the time and like them. One night last week I peeked over the railing of my third floor patio and saw four raccoons foraging in the bushes, so I grabbed my bag of skinny bagels and tossed down some pieces. They seemed to enjoy them, too :o)

So sorry to hear about the lay-offs. That is so painful. We had 10% of our workforce laid off in July and it was sad saying good-bye.

  18. Of course knitting is a sport – I’m in training for the sock olympics!! Did you get to see Sugarland – we discovered them some years ago when we were in San Antonio (yes, there are photos of me at the Alamo somewhere in my archives!) A lovely collection of photos ….. one day I might even get organised and join in.

As for the bad joke – sometimes humour is the only way to deal with awful situations.

  19. Wow, you really did make Indianapolis downtown look pretty spiffy with all those pictures. Don’t worry girls, we do have our blight too, but they have done ALOT to clean up the city and make it much better. Too bad you didn’t take any pics of all the road construction going on for the 2012 super bowl. Yikes – I had detours on the way home that day. Hope you have a good long weekend. We did a little roadtrip to Bloomington Saturday. Went to 3 yarn shops and had a lovely lunch. There was also an art fair but my back and legs gave out and the girls didn’t want to leave me sitting in the shade (my idea). Got some new yarn that is chunky because it is already made up in icord so it makes a scarf in about an hour. Woopee. Too bad the pattern they gave me was not correct so I spent more time trying to figure out if it was me or the pattern. (have some self-doubt issues with knitting but it wasn’t me this time). take care, peace and love, robin

  20. Well done completing the hunt. I’m not going to manage it this month…way too much stuff going on what with car troubles and redecorating…and before you ask, no, it isn’t the kitchen! LOL That is still waiting for final touches!

  21. I always enjoy the photos from your scavenger hunt Anna. It’s fun to see what you come up with. :) And I’m so sorry to hear about the layoffs, I know that’s a tough situation!

  22. Actually… being laid off might have certain advantages for you… such as more sewing time. Being a kept woman isn’t that bad, I’m discovering.

  23. Photos are worth the wait though and sounds like you has a lovely weekend with the First Child and Sweetpea…..wish it was me there having fun with you!!!

  24. How did your weekend end up? I worked 3 days at Swiss Days in Midway and then worked at the sheep dog festival at Soldier Hallow. I’m exhausted and am back to my regular job tomorrow. Life is too full.

  25. Hey, Cracker Jacks no longer come in a box? Do they at least still have a prize? Wow, not sure I like these types of changes! Although we had a wonderful summer, it has been raining buckets for the past couple of weeks. This morning I was actually able to have my breakfast outside with the sun. Ah…. heaven! Nice photos! Venice in Ind, I like it! Cheers!
