Hidy Ho Neighbor! Thanks for all the May Basket love — you guys are the sweetest. Did you have a good weekend? It was beautiful here in ThimbleannaLand. And pretty busy — that’s what happens in the spring — lots of yardwork to do.
So, no real quilting to speak of. I’ve been hankering (yes Barb, that’s my inner Ellie Mae speaking LOL) to start a new quilt project. Something that will be portable and fun. But I can’t seem to make a decision. I finally decided this might not be a great time to decide — maybe I should wait and see if something strikes me at market. So, I dug out the old yoyos and figured out how many I’ll need to make a quilt. I’ve made about 750 so far and I’ll need about 810. Not too bad — I should be able to whip those out in no time — I just need to sneak into the dungeon and cut up some fabric.
I also managed to bake a batch of cookies for BigDaddy. This weeks choice was a recipe I found on Pinterest. They’re Biscoff Oatmeal Cookies. They’re sort of crunchy and dry like the original Biscoff cookies, but with oatmeal in them. They’re perfect with a cup of tea. Or Diet Pepsi. ;-D
And finally, our ducks are still hanging around this year. I love it when they show up every year ’cause I know spring has truly arrived. They’re usually only here for a week or two, but it’s been 5 or 6 weeks this time. About three weeks ago, we found a nest with broken eggs tucked up under the ugly tree. I think they’d been nesting in there and something got the eggs. Nasty Critters. I was really sad, ’cause we’ve never known them to nest here — they sort of hang out and then leave. So I’m wondering if they’re confused by our long spring or lost nest or something. Three days ago the hen was wandering around quacking like she’d lost the drake. Then, the last two days, he’s been wandering around quack quacking like he’s lost her. It’s kind of sad. I’m hoping there’s a nest somewhere and they really know where the other one is and they’re playing decoy.
So, now that I’ve psychoanalyzed the ducks, it’s back to work. Have a wonderful week!
XOXO,
Anna
Yum. I might just have a go at those ‘bickies’ (cookies!) myself, thanks for the link x
We were chatting earlier today – you never call, you never write. Was it something we did? Sigh! :-)
The cookies sound delic….think I’ll have to give them a whirl! That’s a whole lot of yo yo making. Love the ducks!!!!!
Cookies sound good, I have to get back in the baking groove. I hope you’re right about the ducks and they have found a better place to hide.
oh my yoyo guilt. i must get to work! i think i only have 500ish done! 810? i thought we needed 1k.. do tell.
so is that a little pond? a puddle? what is that duck swimming in? tomorrow is my deadline for blogging. i better hurry and figure something out, even though you already did.
how many more days until market?
okay off to bed with my old tired self.
thanks for chatting with us about yoyos, dry cookies and ducks.
life just wouldn’t be the same w/o you.
big smooches.
I think you were so right to dig out the yoyos – they’re gorgeous and I can’t wait for you to get the last 60 done so that we can see the finished quilt! No pressure ;o)
xx
YoYos! How awesome!
I have my stand-by applique project. I also have a small hexie project for doll quilts for the girls. I use up my scraps on this one.
I love yo-yo’s and recently made a project using them. I have thought I would like to make a lap quilt using yo-yo’s. Can’t wait to see how your quilt turns out. Inspiration!
Now those yo yo’s look addictive, I wonder what you have in mind for them. It must be nice to be spending time in the garden with the ducks. How sad the eggs got smashed.
I can’t wait to see the Yoyo quilt!
I was just thinking you should publish a calendar with all of your header photos. I would buy it, I love those seasonal thimbles.
Diet Pepsi? Sacrilege!
I once had a vet psychoanalyse my cat..you would have gotten on well with him :o)
Look forward to seeing your new project unfold!
Poor duckies. :( I hope they are okay. I can’t wait to see what you do with the yo-yos. I have a bunch made up for something. I have no idea what yet. I don’t know if I can hand sew them together nicely.
I am starting to feel dizzy just looking at those yoyos! Will look forward to seeing the finished article …
hey girlfriend – what the? I made oatmeal mini-chocolate chip cookies yesterday.
your yo yos are adorable, I love the red!
poor duckies, hope all is well.
My friends Jill has 7 fox puppies in her yard. I’m so jealous. I do have bunnies and a big silly chocolate lab :)
I really enjoy quilts made of yo-yos. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stomach making that many yo-yos though! LOL. Love the red and white you’re working with.
I can’t wait for market…a little skeered though, after all the cashola I spent at Nancy’s last week. I think market will be worse! LOL.
I remember making a yo-yo quilt many years ago. I was invited to a baby shower and, being young and poor, had no $$ to get a gift. So, I cut up my favorite skirt (a blue and white check) and made yo- yos until I couldn’t make any more. Stitched them all together, used white sheeting to back them and hand tacked all of those yo- yos down. It took forever! But the mommy-to-be loved it! I never told her I made it from my skirt. :)
I’m sure you will find something fun at market! I hope your little duck family stays safe.
hi anna!
my biscoff is ready & i think this is the weekend for biscoff cakes or cookies!!
happy week & happy mother’s day to you!
Pretty May basket in the prior post. Folks around here don’t really do the flower baskets like I have been reading on blogs, but I think it is a wonderful custom. I must try to remember it next year. Lots and lots of yoyos – oh please don’t tempt me to start another hand project. I am still trying to get around to finishing my hexie and klosje projects.
So you have a pond – lake? – in your garden as well as lots of trees. Are you the Duchess of Thimbleannaland? We just have a birdbath but – no ducks.
Love the beautiful pond with the ducks!
Okay…since I can’t go to market…I’m counting on you to let me know about the latest and greatest from market!
Poor ducks. I hope they are okay, too. That’s the only thing about spring I don’t like– destroyed nests. It’s so sad. Last year I had a big blow out with my apartment manager because she tried to take down a tree with a nest full of woodpecker babies. The county game warden had to get involved to stop her. I just can’t understand how people can be so heartless.
I hope the ducks are okay. We use to take buddy on walks to feed the ducks when he was about two and a half. He’d shout ….here go ducks as he pitched the bread at them. luckily they didn’t seem to startle. Lol.
