Yipes! I almost forgot that it’s Recipe Box Swap day! Thanks to Randi for hosting. She’s chosen Soups as the category to swap this month, which, of course, is perfect for those of us in the cold northern hemisphere.
I decided to try a new recipe this month and I chose Ina Garten’s Lentil Vegetable Soup. Now, try not to run off pinching your nose! The picky little girl eater in me would never have even thought of trying a anything with lentils. But several weeks ago, I was at a fancy-schmancy restaurant and they served a lentil soup as the first course. It was delicious and the woman sitting next to me mentioned that she loves Ina’s Lentil Soup recipe. So, knowing that it was Soup Month over at Randi’s, I decided to give it a try.
Yum…Yum! Pair this soup with some artisan bread and you’ve got a winner. It’s even better as leftover soup — I had some for lunch today and it warmed me right up!
Oh — and have you tried the fun little quiz to find your style? Found via How About Orange — it’s quick and entertaining. Apparently my style is Park Avenue Cocktail (I did not pick the martini, I swear) which, as Jessica says, makes me soulmates with Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn, and Frank Sinatra. I can live with that!
XOXO,
Anna
I swear, Anna, I really need to come to your house someday. You have the best recipes! Lentil soup is such a favorite of mine and YUM gotta love the carbs of Artisan Bread!!
I’ll have to try the soup. I took the quiz and got “Old Money Extravagance,” to which I reply, “where’s the money!”
That was a fun quiz. I’m Bespoke Classic like Princess Diana and Fred Astaire.
Um, lentil soup. I will have to take your word for it. My picky little girl eater says ptooey :o)
I LOVE lentil soup. I usually like a nice, smoky ham in mine just because I need that extra bit of protein, lol. It’s supposed to get cold again this weekend so lentil soup would actually hit the spot. I tell you I cannot wait for my artisan baking course at the end of February. Hopefully we will be learning how to make some nice bread.
If you tell me made your own chicken stock I will have to shoot myself. Seriously I love lentil soup and only get it out because the guy who lives here hates them…sigh.
i do like lentil soup. i am bookmarking to use this recipe. also, i love making that bread. it’s been quite popular at my house!
thanks for linking up today, anna!
ps–i am LOVING your keep calm sign. too fun!
It is soupy weather, that’s for sure! There is something very comforting about a good bowl (or mug) of soup on a cold day. I made broccoli cheese soup for lunch today, so see without even knowing – I’m on schedule. LOL
Mmmmmmmm! We eat a ton of soup this time of year. Believe it or not, my oldest has been asking for lentil soup – I’ll have to try this out.
I eat a lot of lentils – the kids won’t touch them but I hoover them up! You have to love a low fat protein source in winter ;p)
Like the sound of that soup!
Sounds yummy! Although it never really is “soup weather” here I still make it regularly, even pumpkin soup by 100 degrees F ;). I’ll definitely give your Lentil and Veg soup a try.
I totally forgot about this…darn. I’ll have to go and check out the soups. This looks wonderful Anna…I’m off to check out the recipe.
are you cooking from artisan breads too?? I got both books for xmas.. have tried 3 recipes so far… going to try a 4th today!
and you are wicked to throw out tests… I’m addicted to taking them!
I am Modern Eclectic, which is dead on — except I would rather hang with Marlene, Audrey, and Frank than Andy Warhol, Scarlett Johannson or Philip Seymour Hoffman.
I just got lost at Pinterest. I’m so MOTIVATED to make a “39 Squares” embroidery piece. Just put it on my 2011 To-Do list.
Your soup looks wonderful! I love lentil soup!! I grew up with it… yummy. I will try your version! I made soup yesterday… cream of mushroom. It had sherry and thyme in it and it was really tasty.
I took your quiz but can’t remember who I was. Have to take it again.
Hugs to you Anna…
Joni
“Swank Aesthete”?
Well, since it seems that Johnny Depp is my soul mate, I’ll take it. LOL
soup looks wonderful!
i *heart* ina’s soup recipes….in my freezer are
her rosemary & white bean as well as roasted tomato soups…this lentil is a MUST cook.
THANKS for the inspiration!
like jonipossin’s comment..i just got lost in a major pinterest web & found myself looking @ awesome baking recipes & teapots…SEND HELP!!
Modern Eclectic, which is eerily accurate. That soup looks good – is it odd to crave a lentil?
Just my kind of soup – we eat a lot of soup in the winter. I did the quiz, then by the time I came back to leave my comment, I’d forgotten what I was …… I think it was antiquated espresso. Check out today’s post for the first lambs – little Jacob’s sheep – the cutest little things!!
I needed a little lift so I took the quiz to find I am an Antiquated Espresso. Okay.
I love lentil soup. It is hearty, filling and warming to the soul. I wish I had some today.
We have lentil and veg soup all the time in the winter. Protein, you know.
Love the baby things. You’re so clever.
I’m a bespoke classic – too funny – soul mated with princess diana, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
how fun.
Love the look of the soup – thanks
I love soup in these winter months.
“Mix with a spoon in a food safe bucket”…. lol I guess that’s the artisan part,it did make me laugh a little. I love lentil soup, my family is not too crazy for it though. I’ve been making The Pioneer Womans chicken soup a lot lately. Oh and my style is California Country…ok I’m off to research bread buckets, I’ve never heard of one??
Does the bread taste like sourdough bread?
Yum! Although hard to imagine in this warm sunny weather so I’ll store the recipe away for a cooler day!
We live on that bread at a our house!
And tell Shawn itbtastes like sourdough after 5-6 days of leaving the dough in the fridge.
I love lentil soup and the photo looks so yummy.. I fear I couldn’t sell my husband on it though. I may have to try your recipe anyway. Thanks for sharing.
Tomorrow I am making homemade chicken soup and then using the broth to make homemade tomato soup. Can’t wait! I have been craving tomato soup just like my Mama makes (she gave me her recipe over the phone yesterday).
The soup sounds really delicious, I love home made soups so may well give this a try. As for the quiz – I’m a ‘Suspected Seaside Informal’ though I’m not sure what that means! Paul Newman and Julia Roberts
fall into the same category anyway:)
I’m just having my first cup of coffee here, but that soup still looks delicious! My husband loves lentils, so I will have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing…
I’ll have to try this recipe, yum. BTW, your Hawaii toast was a hit. Hubby loved it. :)
