Spring Market Report 2011: The Fabric

Lucky for you, this is my last market report — my apologies to those of you who are sick of hearing about market.  I thought you might like to see a little of the fabric side of market.  Before the fabric report though, I wanted to clarify my comments about the butt-ugly car from my last post.  I had a comment from Deb, saying how much they love their Cube.  The Gulls and I actually loved the Cube too.  It’s zippy, gets great gas mileage and has a ton of room inside.  It was awesome for hauling around all the market stuff.  We just thought it was a little funny looking, thus the nickname LOL!

So, now, for fabric.  I had two fabric “missions” for market.  I REALLY wanted to see Sarah Jane’s new line of fabric, and I did.  It’s just adorable, and it’s moved to the top of my wanty list.  If there had been Sarah Jane fat quarter bundles at sample spree, I would have bought them.  I love that cute little hopscotch print.

My other mission was to see the new Ghastlies print.  I managed to make it to the Alexander Henry booth on the last day of market and I asked about the Ghastlies.  They’re reissuing all of the old prints and there’s a new print that’s super cute.  It’s a lot like the main print from the first line — there are several groupings of Ghastlie people doing different things.  And to tell you the truth, I can’t remember what any of them were doing ’cause I only had eyes for one little group of women.  They were knitting.  Ghastlie Women (Witches? I can’t remember, all I could see was the knitting) Knitting!!!  I can’t wait until they start shipping! (Sorry, I didn’t even get a picture.)

As for any other fabric, I went to Sample Spree intending to be well-behaved and not really get anything.  And then someone walked by with the Moda Market bag.  If you buy something worth $20 dollars from the Moda table, you get a free market bag.

I mean, c’mon!  How could a girl originally from Utah be expected to pass THIS up?  I. Had. to. Have. It!  So, I slipped in between the wild crowd and grabbed the easiest pack of fat quarters that I could get, just to get the bag.  Such a sacrifice, huh?  Ruby — isn’t she pretty???

And ok, I slipped up and bought another fabric pack.  I couldn’t resist Monica’s Mochi Mochi Yum Yum.  The poster on Pinterest sucked me in.

So, that’s the end of market reporting from here.  Oh how I wish we could do it all again!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. I can’t wait to see Ruby – it is on my wish list! Those Sarah Jane prints are also pretty. Looks like you were quite restrained!

  2. Sarah Jane and I are like THIS. oh. my. gosh.
    i think i’m love baaabbbyyyy i think i’m in love…
pinwheels & hopscotch & bicycles, oh my!
    thanks for posting.
    i miss you like crazy.
    :waves madly

  3. You can post as many photos of gorgeous fabrics as you want – I will never grow tired of seeing them! We just don’t have the fabulous selection of fabrics that you do, and although we can buy it online, we then have to pay duty on it, if it’s over a certain value. So at least I can worship from afar when you share your purchases with us. And yes, I would have bought something just to get that bag!!

  4. OK so until you mentioned it the thought hadn’t even crossed my mind but now I NEED the SJ fabric and the knitting witches!

  5. Gorgeous, irresistible fabrics Anna, I could look at them all day, and what a cute tote ~ love it!! Sounds like you had a wonderful time at Market.

  6. Oh my gosh, I’m “salivating”! And I’ve make a pact (mind you only with myself) that I wouldn’t buy any more fabric for at least three month after I went totally crazy on my US visit last month. Well, sometimes one has to eat ones own word ;)!

  7. Well, I have thoroughly enjoyed your market posts since it is the only way I will ever experience it. I’m glad you were able to get in and get one of those bags. It’s very cute.

  8. Ruby and I will probably become best friends! Love the gray in that stack. Bonnie and Camille have my number. Wouldn’t do for me to go to market because I would be so overwhelmed. I would be “tharn” five feet in. Glad you had a great time. Lastly, so glad that the Ghastlies will be available. Was SO jealous of the quilts you gifted your family members. Now I will be able to have my very own. :D

  9. OMG…Ruby and Mochi Mochi! I am green with envy. But i really, really want that Sarah jane!

  10. Personally, I love hearing about Market and seeing all the fabrics! Will have to check out all the links when I get a moment. And, oh, I agree about the CUBE! (Sorry) Just not for me!
    ;-)

  11. Funny that we are attracted by the same fabrics. Not so unusual but funny. Sarah Jane is a delight. Her stuff is going to sell sell. And I didn’t get to the Moda table but that is what I would have picked – Ruby. I was overwhelmed and the table looked absolutely frightening. I would do it again, too.

  12. Hello! I’m just popping in to answer your questions ;-)

Yes we work even in the rain….if it gets really really awful we may go home but usually we stay out.

Red squirrels are the native species in Scotland and they are rare – grey squirrels introduced from elsewhere are bigger and eat a lot more so when they move into red squirrel territory they start to take over and red squirrel numbers are reducing. Poor squirrels.

  13. Anna, I think it was very noble of you to be willing to buy dear Ruby in order to receive the reusable Moda market bag that you can now proudly use whenever you hit the grocery store. Or, when you hit a quilt store. ;0

  14. Can’t wait to see the knitting witches … I really wish I could sew instead of knit as those fabrics are just so pretty .. I don’t mind how many market posts you do :-)

  15. I’m so wanting some Ruby. I can’t believe it’s not coming to stores until October….. buuuummmmer.

  16. So many brights with fabulous prints that I may have to get some in between my CW stuff. That market bag had lots of room in it so I totally understand the need to fill.

  17. Yummmmmy, yummmmmmy fabrics!! I have been sitting here going back over your wonderful market report….so much eye candy to see. Great reporting job and pretty pics!

  18. Aaaahhh! Market looks like it was a blast! I love all of the fabric you love. Ruby and Monica’s fabric are both gorgeous, Sarah Jane’s is adorable, and I want some Ghastlies! I didn’t get any last year. Looking at it makes me want to skip summer and get to some fall sewing. I want to hang out with you and the Gulls in Devo hats!! xoxo

  19. Hi, Sweets! Your reports on market are wonderful. Looks like you had a great time. Love that Sarah Jane fabric and I am oh, so jealous you have Happy Mochi Yum, Yum! I haven’t been able to write on my blog because my computer is in the hospital being debugged from a nasty virus. It’s in the hard drive. :( B. A. D. Everything is on that computer. Stupid virus. I’m having to use the archaic old one. Oy.
Guess what? I get to go to market in the fall!! Eek. Somebody pinch me! Maybe we can finally meet!!

  20. I would love some of that fabric too. Sarah Jane. Sooo cute.
    Is that really your car????
I have a photo of you at market but you have a pen and pad in your hand and it’s of the back of your head. lolol

  21. That Sarah Jane print is so sweet. You could just hoard it forever, couldn’t you? When is your kitchen remodel suppose to be done? I am so excited to see it. I am redoing my sewing room and we will see about that as well. LOL.

  22. I’m just catching up on your market reports. It’s always fun to see it thru your eyes.

As for your new fabric, wow! There are just TOO many goodies coming out this season. How would a girl even begin to pick?!?!?
