I know everyone is posting about fall. About how the weather is changing, the leaves are starting to turn, and Halloween will be here soon. But I’m not ready! Summer went by too fast. And we just got that darn new grill!
So, in its honor, I’m posting one last summer/grill recipe. Grilling season isn’t over yet. We still have Indian summer. And besides, there are a bunch of you down under who are just getting ready for summer. So, this recipe is for you. It’s a recipe for grilled potatoes wrapped in foil. They make a great side dish and since they’re grilled in foil packets, the clean up is very easy.
Grilled Potatoes in Foil
1/2 c. Miracle Whip salad dressing (don’t let this scare you, it melts and disappears while cooking)
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 t. paprika
1/4 t. each: salt, pepper
3 baking potatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1 large onion sliced
- Mix together salad dressing and seasonings in large bowl until well blended. Stir in potatoes and onions to coat.
- Divide potato mixture evenly among six 12-inch square pieces of heavy-duty foil. Seal each to form packet.
- Place foil packets on grill over medium-hot coals. Grill, covered, 25 – 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Makes 6 servings.
Throw those potato packets on the grill, burn your pork chops and you’re ready for dinner!
We’re off to see TheSecondChild tomorrow for parents weekend. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
XOXO,
Anna
P.S. Are all the rest of you being killed with spam comments? I can filter out most of the drug spam (so if you decide to send me a comment containing “viagra”, “levitra”, etc., your comment will go into moderation!) but I’m having trouble with the Paris Hilton spam. What words do I filter out?
- Paris – what if someone wants to comment on a great trip to Paris?
- Hilton — a comment about a great Hilton to stay in?
- Crotch — there is occasionally sewing content here — what if we need to discuss crotch seams?
- Photos — Hello? We discuss photos all the time!
Send advice! ;-)
mmmmm – we are yet to fire up the Barbeque as our season is just begining!! I may have to store this recipe somewhere for that time. Sounds so good!!
I’ll have to try that. I make potatoes similarly but I usually blob butter in there. I’ll give mayo a try. Thanks!
the potatoes look yummy. We grill here all year long. But I am looking forward to what fall weather we get here. I’m tired of the heat. Of course I didn’t just get a new grill. LOL
Yummy! We didn’t have any barbeque this year because of the bad Summer and we don’t have an Indian one too. What a shame!
The potatoes look delicious. Can you block out the words Paris and Hilton only when they appear together? That might solve part of the problem.Unless this post gets blocked. Lol.
what a yummy sounding recipe…I don’t know about that dressing though :(
I only got one spam comment recently so I haven’t had to deal with it, I wouldn’t know how to advise you anyway!
Don’t worry, I’m still a ways from fall here in Georgia. I believe it will 90F today. :) But oh how I do wish fall would hurry!
We use the grill all year long—even in the snow! This recipe sounds great (my crew LOVES taters!) and I love the easy clean-up of foil packets. Thanks for the recipe!
We haven’t managed one barbecue this year, not even one charred offering! Those potatoes look great – glad you didn’t mash them!

Our grill caught on fire, and sort of blew up! I think it’ll probably be next summer before I can make your great recipe…but it sure sounds good!
I’ve only had one or two spams, about a year apart. I’m not really sure how you would filter some things. Maybe using quotation marks, to make the two words into a name, rather than separate words? Hmmmm, I’ll have to ask my brother in law, the computer genius, next time I see him.
Hope your weekend is lovely!
Those potatoes look so yummy! Years ago I use to do something similar with onions and lots of butter. I’m going to try your recipe!
Be safe on your travels tomorrow!
have a great time at parents weekend!
those potatoes look wonderful…but does grilling season ever stop? ;)
good luck on your spam problem. your little dilemma made me chuckle.
That meal looks fantastic!
We don’t have a barbecue. We live in the city, in an area with small gardens, and as a vegetarian I just hate it when neighbours fill the air with the smell of meat when I’m out enjoying the fresh(ish) air and the scent of my flowers. Just call me Mrs Grumpy…
I like your running-on sentences, though!
Dare I say this in public? We live in Oz, but we dont own a BBQ! the last one we had rusted out, so we didnt bother replacing it. Daughter J has one though, so I will give her the recipe, as they have BBQ’s all summer long.
Hi Anna,
I’ve tried twice to e-mail you and they keep coming back undeliverable. Just thought you might like to know. I sent twice and both were returned to me.

Yummy! I love potatoes like that.
I don’t blame you for wanting to use a brand new grill!
No clue about spam.
Wow Anna! You have been posting like a mad woman since I’ve been gone! Where to begin?? I love the recipe for the taters, and I definitely am going to try it. Of course, I love all of your recipes!
Not only has summer gone by too quickly, I think this entire year has sped by!!! I am still lost somewhere in June, I think – where does the time go?
Have a wonderful weekend!!
Super yummy! It’s starting to get chillly out, but there is still time to grill!
Hi Anna – your spam problem made me laugh out loud! Sorry to have taken so long to comment. I’ve just tagged you so pop over to see what it’s about! Lucy x
Hmmmm – isn’t spam that nasty stuff in a can, LOL. Techy stuff just whizzes by me so I have no advice to offer you that you would want to use :)
Holy moly on those taters sister. Spuds of any kind cooked anyway rank up there with chocolate for me and these sound dee-lish and will be hitting the grill this coming weekend. Thanks for sharing and I’m glad the new grill is up and running.
Hugs – Karen
Don’t give in! When I finally gave in and said, “Fine, let it be fall!” the weather turned hot again and all my fall clothes were just too much for the weather.
Screw fall! It’s still summer in my book.
Summer is nearly here and we’ve cleaned the bbq – I’ll have to remember this recipe.
