The Princess and the Pea

I had baby cuddles last weekend! We visited FinallyAGirl and her parents and mostly just laid around. And took some pictures! SweetiePie saw a baby picture months ago that we liked, and we decided when the time came, it would be fun to try and re-create it.

I’m generally of the less-is-more camp when it comes to pictures – especially for babies. But, once in awhile it’s fun to play, so we did. First, a few tools were required. I scavenged some old pallets from work (well, I didn’t really scavenge – they cost me $5 – the only part of this project that I didn’t have at home), gathered the tools, and cut the pallets up and re-sized them.

It was time consuming, but, really not that hard (except for a few stubborn nails).  After the pallets were cut to size, I covered the fronts and sides with fabric that I raided from my stash/etsy shop.

We hauled those pallets with us on our little visit, set them up, and then, Ta Da! The Princess and the Pea.

Fun, huh? Kind of a lot of work for just a few pictures, but I figure the bed can be used for dollies later, right? Or, if you need a picture of your little princess, you know who to call for the bed LOL.
While we were playing, we took another fun shot.

It was a little nerve-wracking to have the baby hanging there, but we hurried, and protective arms were never far away.

Ok – that’s all I’ve got. The weeks of summer are flying by – I hope you’re having a good one!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. How cute!! So each layer is just stacked on each other and not attached? Will have to file this idea away for the future!!

Your grand baby is adorable and certainly deserves the princess treatment.

  2. What fabulous photos!! It was certainly worth the effort to make the bed for the first photo. Malcolm was exceedingly impressed – you know how he loves a good project involving pallets!!

  3. what a cute idea – how ever did you come up with the bed idea – very cute baby – one can really tell you love having her added to the family :)

  4. Apparently, I am a little behind on my blog reading. With the 2 minutes of free time I had today, yours is the one and only blog that was a MUST read. You didn’t dissappoint!

  5. Oh my goodness, Anna, the photos are adorable. Or, more to the point, the baby is adorable. (I was going to call her “FAG” but that just didn’t seem appropriate at all!)

  6. Oh, my goodness! The Princess set-up is the cutest idea ever! Your granddaughter is precious. I see lots more baby snuggles in your future!

  7. Love the creative shots. A lot of work indeed for a single picture, but it may work for more than one. I have a friend who used the same theme for 6 months of pictures until the baby outgrew it. It gave a sense of proportion as the little sweetie grew for those of us that didn’t see her often.

  8. are you kidding me???!!! you need to continue to take milestone photos using this! as she gets older and can sit up it will still be cute to see her sitting on the pile of mattresses! ;p

  9. Thimbleanna Geddes! Is there anything you don’t do? This is adorable and the babe is beautiful. Baby smooches and hugs galore. So happy you had such a fun time together. These memories are forever!

  10. Anne Geddes would be jealous of your prop skills. (Photography prowess must run with the name Ann and her variants. My SIL is an Ann, and she has mad photo skills .) I am really impressed that your granddaughter slept through the posturing on the scale too. Thanks for sharing!

  11. I was wondering how that picture came about when I saw it on IG. It’s absolutely adorable as is the one with the baby on the scales. What a gorgeous little girl you have!

  12. SO sweet!!! i always wanted to do something similar for Melissa (if you looked up Princess and the Pea in the dictionary, you would find her picture – SUCH a fussy sleeper), but never did get around to it … do you think i could fit her on your little bed for a 30th birthday picture?!? ha ha ha!!!

she is a gorgeous baby girl – get in as many smooches as you can!!!

  13. One of my daughters took up photography during her husband’s first deployment, and soon she had a thriving little side business. She collected lots of baby related props, but none as adorable as this. The only thing cuter is the princess on the top. What a beauty!

  14. Oh! She’s adorable!! What gorgeous photos and well worth the effort – thank you. Hope you’re getting them framed for posterity. Soooooo cute!! Hugs xx

  15. Great pics. Yes, the hanging baby trend is very controversial among photographers. (The key is to have the baby/hanging item literally an in inch or two above the ground.) I can’t believe how you transformed the pallets, you’re amazing!

  16. Oh I just loved this shot – and it was worth the crafty time. It is just too precious.
Did you fashion the ladder from the pallets too?
I was wondering how you pulled it off – so clever.
    She is adorable!
how nice to have a visit, they only have that “new baby smell” for a short time :)

  17. Such a beautiful baby!! And those pictures are so cute. You are amazing-I can imagine all the crafty things you will teach your little one.
