Thimbleanna

Yo.

Did you all have a good weekend? I was very happy to come home from my trip and just lie around most of the weekend, not doing much. I did manage to finish up and block the scarf I was working on when the quilty peeps and I escaped last weekend.

Bine Scarf

It’s a late birthday present for my youngest niece (these January birthdays kill me after the rush of Christmas!) She received a new brown coat for Christmas, so I decided to make her a quick scarf to go with it.

Bine Scarf

The yarn is Patons SWS (Soy Wool Stripes) and I was really impressed that as I added each new ball, the same pattern continued. It even ended up in the same striping pattern that was at the beginning of the scarf. I’ve never had such good luck with self striping yarns before.

Bine Scarf

I didn’t have a pattern — I just wanted a simple rib-type pattern. I cast on 35 stitches on size 8 needles and repeated two rows (Row 1: Knit, Row 2: Knit 1, Purl 1) until it was as long as I wanted. I ended up using 3 balls of yarn.

Mr. Spikey Haired Snowman conned me out of it for a little bit, but it kept him so warm that he wasn’t wearing it for long.  And see his little snowman eyes?  When it was all over, I placed them on the bumper of my car.  Then I drove to MeMum’s.  Then I drove to MyDadLovesMeBestSister’s.  And finally to Barnes and Noble for a little magazine ogling.  And when I came out of B&N, there sat those eyes still on my bumper.  Pretty funny.

So.  New week.  New Project.  I hope it’s as good for you!

XOXO,
Anna

P.S.  You must go check out the fabulous 100th post giveaway going on over at Bitty Bits and Pieces.  And tell her I sent you LOL!

  1. Dude! Could I snatch a bit of your DNA to blend with my own so I could then pop out little scarves and gifty things, without it always involving drama and procrastination and last minute rushing about and hyperventilating? I would so not have had the moxie to whip out my knitting needles in a pub/nightclub/whatever-it-was! Do you feel a little bit like a rock star? I bet a rock star could pull it off the way you did. I’m in awe….

  2. Love that scarf although it is the last thing I would have near me at the moment. We are sweltering here in Melbourne Australia!

  3. What a beautiful scarf Anna. I love the colours, it reminds me of a coat my mother had when I was little. It was one of my favourite things – I don’t know why but the combination of blue and brown was just so lovely

  4. LOVE the stripes — and good thing those “eyes” probably froze to your bumper or they would be in the street somewhere!

  5. I did have a good weekend, thanks for asking. Take it easy on the January birthdays, we had no control over that. Love the colors and your knitting is outstanding. It is so cool how you whip up a gorgeous gift in no time.

  6. Pretty, Pretty scarf! I’ve wondered how those self-striping yarns looked, now I might just have to try one. Your pattern is easy enough I think even I could do that one!

  7. That scarf is so cute. Your niece will love it. I wish I could knit. My grandmother just gave me all her knitting needles(and a great bunch of them there are). She taught me to crochet many years ago but I never learned to knit. :-( And your snowman is just adorable. I love the spiky hair.

  8. The scarf looks great and I love the colors. Your snowman model is awesome, it really gave me a chuckle. I have to say I’m still drooling over your wallets.

  9. Wow! That scarf is just beautiful. Great Job! It’s cold here today. It think it’s 35 degrees right now. I must admit it’s not as cold as back there, but hey, I’m a wimp!

  10. It’s gorgeous! What a fabulous and thoughtful gift! I totally feel you on the January birthday thing. I’m ashamed it to admit it but I’m still working on a gift for a January 15th birthday…oops. =)

  11. Ooooo….she’s going to love that blue scarf. Looks pretty cute on the snowman too….I love the needles poking up for hair.

  12. Oh, I’ve missed stopping by and catching up on your latest projects, Ms. Anna! The scarf is lovely and, I think, will look great with a brown coat.

  13. I love the scarf! And the adorable snowman. I have been visiting the blog via google reader, which doesn’t include the blog headline: those snowmen with thimble hats are wonderful! :)
    Hope you are well!

  14. I love browns and blues together. FAVORITE COMBO RIGHT NOW! WHAT a thoughtful gift. It looks professionally done, I’d say. Thanks too for all of the support recently with my weight loss and the lovin’ on my NYB quilt. You always send a big smile my way.

  15. Such a pretty scarf, Anna. I’m impressed with ‘self striping’ yarn. The only experience I had was making a sweater for my SIL’s son. I used Plymouth Encore Colorspun (I think it was called that) and it really looked sharp, as though I had changed yarn for each new block of stripes.

I love that stitch you did, too.

  16. Girl you just kill me, what a hoot with spike there all dolled up in the new scarf or as my niece says – scraf, LOL. Sweet colors and nice simple pattern even this pork chopped finger girl can handle.

    Hugs – karen

  17. I love that the yarn would make such pretty stripes!
Knitting. . . it fascinates me so! . . but alas . . no time.
I too love going to B&N to do some magazine scoping. . . Always come out with something!. . . (usually from England, France, or Australia!)

  18. Hi Anna,
the scarf is beautiful and even though I think it suits the snowman very well, I’m sure your niece will love it ;o)
    Hugs, Julia

  19. That snowman’s hair-do is making my head hurt, LOL! Thanks for the humorous snowman pics. Did the button eyes freeze to your bumper? The scarf is lovely!

  20. Your blog is adorable, same as the scarf and little snowman…i add you in my favorites blogs in mi blog…thanks for sharing. marci

  21. What a lovely gift! Nothing nicer than something warm and cozy that has been handmade with love! Your snowman looked quite snug in the scarf…good thing he didn’t wear it for long! The spikey hair was a nice touch too.

  22. I simply MUST learn to knit. That is my goal for this year. I’m just warning you ’cause you might be getting late-night emails is all.
    Beautiful scarf.

  23. What a gorgeous scarf, Anna! If only I had a nth of your talent! Heavy sigh!
Mr. Spiky Hair Snowdude looks perfectly mahvelous in that scarf, dahling!

  24. Oooh, I love your scarf stitch pattern. Pure rib drives me mad (not the look, the actual knitting of it) but I reckon I could manage it interspersed with plain knit.

  25. What a beautiful scarf! The yarn is lovely – I love blue and brown together. Beautifully modelled by Mr Spikey Snowman :-)
